To be honest, the dub is what makes that dialogue work. As in, if I listen to the japanese audio and read the engish dialogue, it's just jarring, but english audio and english dialogue works, even if it's a rather... liberal translation.

While all the makers are created by CH they gave them to their respective companies. If they didn't they could not be named after those companies for obvious reasons.
However, at some point N.I.S. and Gust lost a lot of employees who were picked up by IF. (You'll notice IF is publishing Totally Not Disgaea)
Seems there was quite a bit of drama surrounding that, but we may never know the extent of it. Only that someone is angry at someone and CH can't get the rights to use the characters.
Since Gust and N.I.S. own those characters, they figured they may as well use them.

English is a funny language because 'U' is often a consonant. Sure the phonetic [u] exists but it's often typed differently like for example in 'boot'.
English pronunciation has way too many exceptions, I fucking hate it sometimes.

Not really edited. The characters are drawn separately for cover art and then put together. We only have the overlapping one but the company can just use the separate versions for different merchandise.
