is there any reason why you wont be seeing blade runner 2049 in cinemas oct. 5?
>>
If it gets good reviews I'll see it in IMAX, and I don't see many movies.
>>
>>87806164
No I'm going with my dad who love the original.
He's not a big fan of Ryan Gosling but he likes Jared Leto.
Hopefully we can have a fun time together.

Why does he have that awful heather gray hanes T shirt on in the promo shots? He looks like he just rolled out of bed on to the set. And the rest of the sets/costumes look amazing, I don't know what the hell they were thinking.

I'm sorry your father isn't around.

>>

If the reviews are bad I'm not seeing it and I'll pretend it never existed because the final cut of the original is one of my favorite films.
>>
>>87806164
yeah i don't pay money to watch films
>>
can't care about reviews, even if it gets railed, gonna see it.
Just to remind, original 80s one hasn't warm wellcome either. It was initially panned and had mixed to bad reviews, over years grew into cult status. It was also box-office bomb, barelly passing it's budget.
>>
>>87806164
It's doing to be another shitty attempt to make money on nostalgic retards.
If you are seriously paying to see sequel/reboot/remake you should consider killing yourself.
>>
>>87806164yeah I'll wait for it to be shown on the netflix sub I already pay for thanks.

That sub that, incidentally costs a third of what a single cinema ticket would cost. For an entire month's viewing.

>inb4 you pay when you can pirate!
Yeah, it's worth the tiny bit of money for the sheer convenience.
>>
>>87806824
The original with the narration was truly hard to watch, it rightfully bombed. But, hopefully we don't have to wait for a "fixed" version of this film.

The final cut is a great movie with a great soundtrack, better if you're drinking scotch while you watch it. Needs a decent home theater to do it justice. It would suck on a laptop, completely pointless.

I don't have much hope in it because the script isn't based on a Philip K Dick novel and is instead an "original" Hollywood script. The original film's brooding aesthetics owe much to PKD's tone and the trailers and advertising have shown to me that they completely missed the mark in that regard.

I work at the theatre so I'll catch it for free anyhow. Gonna predict a $600m+ box office hit for it tho.
>>
I'm pretty skeptical. It all looks too clean and stylized. The world of Blade Runner is a cyberpunk shithole. The sequel world looks like something from Tron.

Also, judging from the trailer, the story is gonna be simplistic as fuck. Jared Leto creates a bunch of replicants to take over the city and sends them after Blade Runners to take them out from the inside or some shit? And Gosling needs Ford because he can't trust anyone on the inside? Only guessing, but I cannot give less of a shit.

Also, Harrison Ford can't act.
>>
I can't wait for all the casual Blade Runner fans to come out of the woodworks when they see this movie.
>>
>>87809261
>Gonna predict a $600m+ box office hit for it tho.
I hope it does something like this. Villeneuve should spear head the new age of blockbusters now that Snyder and Nolan are gearing down.
>>
>>87809126
same, i can only go to arthouse matinees. everything else is just too awkward
>>
>>87809261

The film will be pure visual storytelling with the usual Villeneuve slow tension building narrative and /tv/ will immediately call it "boring" and "nothing happens" because they expected explosions and heavy action because of the mismarketed trailer.
Screencap if you want.
>>
>>87809306
It's clean because they're trying to make the globalist future they have planned look good
>>
>>87809467
Yeah but it's telling of Nolan reaching the arthouse stage of his career. Making these blockbusters is mentally and physically demanding. Unless you're a machine like Bay, you'll burn out after a couple. Villeneuve is still fresh off the boats. He can make great things for some years to fill the void of his two WB predecessors.
>>
>>87809306
Harrison also is 70 years old or some shit and has a slipped disk in his spine. I'm pretty sure he still needs to take painkillers for the pain.
>>
>>87809478
That's why I mentioned PKD's tone in the following sentence. If you've read a couple of his works, it's clear that his tone was heavily influential in the making of the film. Minority Report really nailed it down in that way too.
>>
>>87809561
It's going to be good. Unfortunately the pleb masses might hate it because Villeneuve won't shove quips down their throats every five seconds but it's going to be good if it's on par with his previous films.

the original film depicts a gross, dingy and depressing hellhole of multicultural globalist dystopia, allowing for absurdly rich, dense and layered visuals that meshed gorgeously with the vangelis score

the new film has already shown us exactly what it will be, sterile and clean digital photography in cleaner environments because the multicultural globalist future must not be portrayed negatively, jared leto with "le SPOOKY white contact lenses" as the spoopy creator man and harrison will show up in the last 30 minutes for some shitty CGI explosion chase scenes

the female lead will be more pushy and independant, and don't be surprised to find some half assed twist in the final act since after all this is a denis villenueve capeshit-lite endeavor

Almost every single shot you've seen from the trailers is completely practical, Villeneuve hates working with CGI and green screen and only uses it when absolutely necessary,
And considering that the film has an enormous budget I'm sure he made it exactly like he wants it too.

can we talk about why WB decided to make this in the first place?
the original movie was a bomb and only managed wi become a cult hit among white males years later
>Budget $28 million
>Box office $33.8 million
women don't seem to like it or any PKD hard sci fi, so there's really only one demographic who cares at all
WB somehow thought this would be financially a strong move? the trailers are extremely uninspired and don't inspire much hope(sets/visuals/the composer got fired and replaced with hans zimmer LOL)
i don't see how this does not perform poorly at the box office

Aside from its visuals, the only thing worth noting about the original movie is a few scenes, most importantly pic related.
This scene is one of my favorite of all time, it completely flips the viewer's perspective of Roy as an antagonist and Deckard as the hero, by having Roy explain his immense fear of death that has driven him to do all that he had up until that point.
The way Roy phrases his fear of death, by juxtaposing it with his vivid memories that he treasures so much, to me is beautiful. The track playing is also quite nice.
Sorry for the long post, I think Blade Runner 2049 will much more shallow than the first, but I will most likely go and see it anyway.

I have 2 reasons. The first is that this is a Sony production. That means that it is guaranteed shit. They are the worst studio in movie making history. The second reason is that I'm dreading the normiefication of Blade Runner if by miracle the sequel turns out to be good.
>>
>>87811248
It's just WB trying to cash in on Harrison Ford. They figured he's done with SW and Indy, this might be one more thing they could get him to do before he croaks and make their own scifi blockbuster universe with, which is why they got the Goose since he'll draw in young females.

What a retarded thing to say, this movie has become a classic and has inspired countless of artists all over the world

So what? we can only watch garabage tailored to the lowest common denominator aka homo popcornicus? You would have wanted a female lead to make sure women watch it and a black sidekick to ensure those black males who don't care about BR do? This is greedy Hollywood exec mentality. It's just plain stupid.
BR failed at the box office was ahead of its time, and it was a dystopian future while people wanted more enthusiastic sci-fi like Star wars

i am talking from a purely financial standpoint, most films now that succeed on a big level get around a 50/50 split between genders
white males are the only demo that actually care about quality, that's why hollywood films are bombing left and right nowadays because they are shit and have alienated the previous target demo of tastemakers(white males)

and as you say the majority of people don't want depressing, they want something more clean and upbeat which is what this new film is looking like(at least in comparison to the original) but they don't like blade runner to begin with so i really don't see how this won't perform on a mediocre level especially in the USA

Funny since Villenueve/Deakins always got such praise - though desu I was more impressed with the cinematography in "Prisoners" than I was with "Sicario"....

Everyone knows Arri Alexa is better.

Yeah. Like I said, digital can look good, but film actually has that painterly quality that can really set the mood and help further cinema as an art.

Digital can look pretty but its all too crisp and clear, to the point where it often just looks like real life.
>>
>>87812202
explain to me for what reason would a limited plot like this one - a shitty muh 6 gorillions if my brain is still working - not be a glimpse of the shitty plot that's coming?
>>
>>87812508
This. But watch for the digital fanboys telling you you're wrong BECAUSE DIGITAL IS HIP AND COOL JUST LOOK AT THE NAME RED, SO COOL AND ITS NEW TECHNOLOGY AND YOU CAN JUST ADD FILM GRAIN IN POST RETARD.
>>
Doesn't interest me.
>>
>>87812449
One of the most basic explanations would be that if a movie is filmed on film you willl be experiencing a digital version of it, while a proper projector will show the true analog "film". Dunkirk is a recent example.
>>
>>87812542
Wow, you get it. But the digital kids always say there's no difference, lmao. Digital looks too clear and dull, and looks like it's trying to imitate real life. Film has a crisp rich texture to it, and it makes a film look more cinematic and an experience, something to escape to.

Because it's not written, shot, directed by anyone who is involved in the actual film. It's literally made just because Ridley Scott is the executive producer and he managed to slip his son in the marketing so he can have fun pumping out a few whatever shorts with a few actors from the actual movie.
>>
>>87812639
Agreed.
Maybe that's why I prefer old movies to new ones.
>>
>>87812596
They've been converting film to digital for decades. Did you sell your DVD player and go buy a reel-to-reel when you made this discovery anon? No?

Projection is shit, and most movies aren't even shot on film anyways. I actually watched Super Mario Brothers the other day, a movie shot on film. The film grain and all the scanning errors transferred fine, it's good quality. I wasn't even aware that movie had a DVD release.

I will absolutely have to see it. I just hope it doesn't suck. Bladerunner is the first movie I remember seeing beginning to end as a little girl. I was like, four, or something. My uncle had a super-rare and expensive Betamax player he'd bring over and we'd all watch movies. (Pirated, of course.) I watched this, then Silent Running. Funny how there was this one day I fully remember films. Leave it to me to have Lady Elaine Fairchild nightmares, but be perfectly fine with things like Bladerunner. *shrug*

i assume its amatuer filmmakers who use digital themselves and use youtube tutorials on how to perfect teal and orange color correction lmao
>>

That's it. That's exactly it. Faggot amateurs who think their short films made on RED LOOK SO COOL, like this one:

>>87812293
>>
>>87813063
>teal and orange color correction lmao
The "teal and orange" is just a complimentary colorway in color grading that's been used from the start of the use of color in any art form, but autists on the Internet like you caught up to that only a year or two ago and now just screech TEEL AND ORAMGE just because they heard of the term somewhere and thinking that that some kind of argument. Embarassing.

Unfortunately there are morons entering the industry advocating digital and for the death of film, so as bad as movies are today, just wait 10-25 years.
>>
>>87810958
Film>digital is one of the /tv/ memes that I 100% unironically agree with.
>>87814065
Same with this. The special effects in 80s movies look better to me than the Pixar crap they do now. 1977 Star Wars looks more 'real' to me than 2016's Rogue One.
>>
>>87814414
The new Blade Runner has almost zero CGI, all practical set pieces

>Same with this. The special effects in 80s movies look better to me than the Pixar crap they do now. 1977 Star Wars looks more 'real' to me than 2016's Rogue One.

Holy fuck you get it.

And Cartoons look better than CGI animation shows
And practical effects look better than CGI which should only be used when absolutely necessary.

But your wrong saying it's a /tv/ meme to know film is better, a lot of autists here say digital is better, but then again that may be reddit posting here.

More important than light technology was the actual use of colored lights as no detailed retouching could be done practically with film stock.
>>
>>87814709
