He's a martyr to the poor. Guy gets rich off of pure willpower and gumption then becomes spiritually deplete dealing with all the slimy fucking scumbags waiting at the top. The idea of the movie is perfectly encapsulated in the scene where he's sitting in Sosa's house with all those mega rich and powerful people from around the world and they're explaining to him how they want him to kill that one guy before he gives his U.N speech. Tony is the smallest guy in the room sitting all the way on the end. They're all sitting up and super focused with these really evil looks on their faces while tony is slouched down looking apathetic they are literally lording over him in that scene. Say what you want about Tony but capitalism with no societal spirituality or culture is encouraging people like tony to be created actively but tony realizes he can never win and he dies at the end only living on in the spirits stories of the poor
