Are these literally the only critics willing to suck up to Disney to get even more money? Seems that way.

>>87598718
"expert" is being too generous. Mike and Jay know less about cinematography (lighting design) than Tommy Wiseau.

No, they liked one movie because of callbacks and fanservice then turn around and say that another film having the same amount of callbacks and fanservice is bad.
>>
>>87603681
>they liked one movie because of callbacks and fanservice
See, you're creating a false narrative here. They literally say in their TFA review that the fanservice was one of the weaker aspects of the movie. They liked it DESPITE the fanservice, not because of it. And their complaints about R1 are more character related. Because the characters fall flat, the movie offers nothing else BUT fanservice.

Maybe you're just really bad at following a basic conversation?

See, their (and by that I mean all three, Mike, Jay and Rich) reasoning behind why they thought R1 was shit is incredibly flawed. Their main arguments in the half in the bag video were the following:
1. It wasn't what they expected. Therefore bad.
2. It is Star Wars and contains typical Star Wars elements. Therefore bad.
3. Star Wars fans enjoyed the movie. Therefore bad.

In the plinkett review they try to retroactively prove (to themselves foremost) that it's a bad movie by going into character. They criticize the film for its lack of backstory, which is a point unfair of them to make at the time considering they seemed to completely ignore most if not all the details while watching it. All that stuff about motivation, what the characters are thinking/feeling is all there. Is it brilliantly written? No, but it is there. Conveniently they also fail to mention that there are indeed "quips" in that action sequence (which essentially their plinkett review rests on). Characters do make their thoughts/feelings known during the action like in A New Hope; characters do have arcs in the movie.

They got called out on their bullshit, so naturally they made this video to try and poorly defend themselves (with flawed reasoning again). And even after that they tried once again to defend their opinions on the audio commentary track, but by just spouting even more bullshit. Anyone can reduce a movie to trivial notions using flawed reasoning, especially while ignoring large parts of the story.

I'm not saying this movie is brilliant. I'm not saying people have no right to dislike it. But if you attack this movie in a review like they do, you should have good reasons to back up your opinions. Unfortunately this is something that RLM does not do, but I guess has never done either. They review films primarily on how they feel without actually putting any thought into it.
>>
>>87603874
>They review films primarily on how they feel without actually putting any thought into it.

the entire point in movies is that they're supposed to make you feel something, hell that's the entire reason we have art and entertainment. Of course that's going to be the main deciding factor in anyone's critcism
>>
>>87604062
The problem is they can't articulate why they feel that way accurately without contradicting themselves on multiple statements they've made in the past and even during the same review, hence why I included "without actually putting any thought into it" into the statement.
>>
>>87603874
>1. It wasn't what they expected. Therefore bad.

You seem to have this weird fanfic idea that Mike and Jay at one point had goals to "make it" in Hollywood or something. They clearly despite that environment and have been doing the type of non-conventional material for as long as they've been making stuff. Not everyone that makes movies wants a Hollywood career. And most that do want that kind of thing fail anyway. I hope you realize how small the chance of having a Hollywood career is. Most independent filmmakers would kill for the kind of luck and success the RLM guys have achieved doing what they do completely independently.
>>
>>87606121
Hi Mike,

You never had the talent nor the vision to make a good movie, so you've created this illusion that you actually like doing this ironically shitty movies, because if you face the truth you'd actually do us a favor and off yourself.

So just stick to making ironic reviews and meme videos that edgy 18y/olds love.
>>
They didn't say it was bad, they had some valid criticism and said it was alright
>>
>>87606160
>there are still lower tiers were film makers thrive
You seem pretty naive. There is no money to be made in filmmaking anymore. Look at filmmakers like Adam Green. He's been making independent horror films for over a decade and is barely scraping by. He has a Patreon that pulls in something like $3K a month. And he's an established filmmaker. Compare that to how much RLM pulls in on Patreon.

I think you might have a very outdated view of media.
>>
The amount of projection and intentional misunderstanding of basic criticisms in these RLM threads is always fascinating.

IT has its flaws, but I find it an enjoyable movie. Also, Mike enjoyed Jurassic World more than Mad Max. I enjoyed seeing Mad Max a lot and while it also has some flaws, it's a movie I will watch again a few years down the road. Interpret that in any way you see fit. My only point is that taste also comes into play.

I do agree It had a jumpscare too many and some weren't effective. It was at its best when the clown/monster appeared in a more unexpected atmospheric setting, or when it was plain bizarre. The kids had great chemistry, one or two were underdeveloped and some things from the book should have stayed in there, i.e Mike providing Derry's background, Ben being the architect/builder of the group with the whole "buildign a dam" sequence giving him a reason to be there in the first place. Some of those moments from the book worked a lot better.

Overall I give the movie a 7.5. Enjoyed it, hoping the sequel will improve on the flaws.

When future generations sift through the smoldering rubble of postmodern America, they would do well to locate a hard drive with RedLetterMedia content on it. They could study Mike and Jay and, with that thin slice of information, fully understand what it is that killed western civilization.
Those two are bitter, cynical nihilists. They have devoted their lives, the prime years of productivity, to pithily lampooning cultural ephemera and implying "we could do better than these idiot filmmakers, but we're too cool to actually try."
They are every strain of societal AIDS melded together into a super AIDS of cultural death...
Well into middle age, they're still obsessively analyzing adventure stories for children. They're childless, unmarried, stubbornly avoiding an actual profession, opting instead to beg for Patreon donations. They are subsisting on the patronage of even more embittered, more lonely, more cynical losers who need virtual friends to swim in their vast Petri dish of misery with them.
Look in their fucking eyes, man. It's a joyless, pointless existence they're living.
They are so afraid of sincerity or honest artistic effort that they'll leave behind hours of footage of them chuckling about Tommy Wiseau. They are artistic cowards and abject failures in every respect.
Each time you catch a glimpse of them, you're reminded that we peaked as a civilization a long time ago. We're done creating. We're done feeling real emotions. All we can do now is analyze, criticize, and ironically pick through the dessicated corpse of our once great nation.

I think they're right. I went with my normie friends to watch it and they couldn't stop praising it afterwards. >>
>>87609913
I really don't want to write an essay about how shit the characters are, you've seen the movie so you already know the only two new characters with even a remote modicum of charisma are Donnie Yen and a CGI robot.

The pacing is obvious. The movie is over two hours long yet the editing is so schizophrenic most shots last less than 8 seconds. In the first 7 minutes alone they go to 4 different planets spending less than a minute on each.

The story is awful. Rogue One aren't even spies which clashes with the text crawl of New Hope, Vader being LITERALLY RIGHT THERE directly before and seeing the plans physically there clashes with the opening sequence of New Hope, the idea of the Rebellion being a bunch of backstabbing idiotic cowards completely undoes the point of the original movies being about good guys vs bad guys, let alone shit that made no sense like Forrest Whitaker's character or the infamous THIS BUG MAKES YOU INSANE scene that has no effect whatsoever on the raghead pilot.

Also keep in mind they literally put in a 3 second shot of C3P0 and R2D2 just standing in the foreground for no reason, it's insanely distracting. Let alone the MY FRIEND DOESN'T LIKE YOU cantina bar guys.

Question about music scores in movies.

Are studios required to keep and maintain a contract with an orchestra, production company, or whatever? Like, are there stipulations for so many movies, or so much of the screentime in a feature release? So many movies nowadays really seem overproduced far as the soundtrack/score goes. And it hits horror movies especially hard, since background silence can really help build tension and give weight to character lines and actions in a scene.

Like imagine if this scene from the Thing was made nowadays: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjIXwkX1e48

Only ontop of the sound effects and dialogue, you had a fucking violin grinding away, trying to tell you how to feel for 98% of the movie.

I think I'm becoming autistic about this, but the shit use of score in IT was really distracting too. Best scenes in my book were ones like the Iron Works, where they let tension buildup with the history book, and then sound effects and imagery before the mandatory scary chase sequence #2. And it outright took away from certain performances, like where Bill's dad gets fucking angry about Georgie to the tune of sappy violins the entire time.

I guess it's also used to help mask the use of CGI too (don't have to worry about sound effects for computer generated things if you can't hear them). But these nushit directors need to know when to tell their post-production sound crew when to shut the fuck up with all the string instruments.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. RLM wants to be seen as the cool alternative to the studios. But whenever they try to peek behind the scenes they end up speculating. This goes back the the Episode I review with the "unhappy Lucasfilm staff", which was essentially made up.

Nowadays it's still the same and has grown into their entire persona. Remember that 30-minute "Box Office Number Crunching" which was based on incorrect data computed incorrectly fit in an incorrect narrative? They've never read stuff about Hollywood really works like DisneyWar or The Devil's Candy. It's always less dramatic than you think.

Why are you retards celebrating Halloween near the beginning of September? It's still summer you retards.

They're popular because Millennials can sadly related to a bunch of middle aged fucks who think they're too good to enjoy anything.

I think he's just genuinely frustrated over the direction american cinema is going. It comes out in comments like that even though it's something larger that is really bothering him.

Whatever man, they are just the brutally honest peanut gallery. Sorry they shit on whatever garbage modern super hero movie you loved so much

Even if he's right that's incredibly pretentious to say about other randoms at the theater you don't know, based on their appearance and having cinema food.

If someone looked at Mike they'd probably think he was a middle aged family man given he's fat and doesn't take care of his appearance much. Jay a lot of people would assume is gay based off his fashion sense. So what? Not fair to throw it in there as part of their cynical circlejerk.

4chan is not the world. Cum Town, a podcast where three guys talk about cum, has more subscribers than them

That's really funny. I don't mean haha funny. It's funny that there's a string of suicides connected. Look into it.
>>
>Mike and Jay shill Marvel

But they're usually quite critical on Marvel movies. Heck I think Mike just straight up said he didn't like Civil War much. In fact, hardly any of their Marvel reviews are very glowing. Is it because they don't completely shit on the movie?
>>
>>87611470
Cum Town is a personality cult around Nick Mullen who is some sort of a sociopath who can speak confidently about any topic whether he knows anything about it or not.

It's not really a typical case.
>>
>>87611621
>speak confidently about any topic whether he knows anything about it or not.
Sounds like another internet creator we know, in fact we're in their thread right now

Somehow in his mind Mike isn't just another dumb fat guy
>>
Can't wait to hear what the makers of Space Cop think about It.
>>
>>87611580
Some people are just very upset that some internet guys are given attention, I wouldn't worry about them anon.
>>
>>87611580

Some people here think you're shilling a product if your review doesn't boil down to "It's terrible." Then there are people on the other side of the fence, who will hear a mediocre review and claim that they "fucking hate the movie" because they have some criticisms.

Basically there's no way to win online, anon. Sorry.
>>
>>87611621
Stav and Adam really need to grow balls. I appreciate Nick and think he's far and away the funniest on the pod, but that doesn't mean he should be such a prick. Nick is a confident asshole though and his ability to call people out on their shit is a useful one, but fuck if he can't be downright autistic a lot of the times.

Toni Erdmann is shit. Everything else is unforgivable, though. But this image is still nitpicked: he also likes Lynch, like Eraserhead, FWWM, and Twin Peaks. And he didn't like Blair Witch, did he?
>>
>>87612298
didn't he say he enjoyed The Neon Demon?

so what? they are allowed to like shitty bland movies, they arent pretending they are high art.

Are they right about the loud noises and jump scares? I hoped that this film would have creepy atmosphere similar to the original "Halloween" by John Carpenter.instead of loud noises and jump scares.
>>
>>87612298

How is this a meme? Didn't they overall enjoy TFA but also said that it has some very notable flaws? C'mon dude, are YOU paid by Warner Brothers or something?

why tho? they show some good knowledge here and there, so why havent they ever tried making a serious little indie movie, something like lets say, Blue Ruin scale wise as an example? Cant be money since making something in a contemporary setting would probably come cheaper than space cop
>>
>>87613054
You have to have ideas and develop them into a plot. These guys are not better than any other film student, because you need that one guy who is slightly off and a little bit crazy to come up with interesting ideas.
>>
>>87612298

Wow that picture really brings it all home. Even if not all movies on the left are "great", they either are good or ambitious attempts at breaking the Hollywood mold.

Whereas the other side is 100% garbage and creatively bankrupt shit that RLM pretends to not like and to whine about Hollywood doing.
>>
>>87598691
They didn't say it was bad, they said the modern horror spooks and jump scares held it back. Which I agree with, by far the worst parts of an entertaining film.
>>
>>87612967
I liked it but there isn't a subtle moment in the whole movie. There's like a dozen scenes where It is chasing the camera while there's a loud noise
>>
>>87604627
Menace was fresh for a long time, it's been within the last 5 years or so that it went rotten
I think Clones hasn't gotten as many retrospective reviews
>>
>>87598691
RLM only praise capeshit. Anything else they complain about
>>
>>87612982
Hello Newfnigger
>>
>>87613054

The real answer is: because real movies are hard.

No seriously, I love RLM myself. But I do think that's the reason. They did 'try' with some of their earlier movies, but in the end they can make more money in a lazier way by making something like Space Cop. Plus, if RLM ever did make a serious movie then everyone would shit all over it almost on principle. In the end it's just not gonna be worth it, imho.

>>87613251

Most of their marvel/dc reviews are of them complaining about the movie. Heck very few of them are glowing, do you even watch RLM?
>>
>>87613189
They've said that they review stuff on different basis. If you review a decent superhero movie you shouldn't compare it to Citizen Kane. Every reviewer does this but /tv/ gets assblasted because they end the video with a recommendation instead of 6/10 or whatever
>>
>>87613219
I guess I'll just wait for a high quality torrent. I imagine there would be a bunch of teenagers talking and texting on their phones in the audience anyways.
>>
>>87612298
Fucking shills
>>
>dude embarrassing schlock is fun lmao

They're so scared of failure that they shit on films that try to do something different but don't succeed. See: >>87612298

Instead they praise movies that are pathetic, lazy cash ins. It's a reflection of themselves
>>
>>87613359
>If you review a decent superhero movie you shouldn't compare it to Citizen Kane.

If you constantly praise capeshit and shoot down movies that attempt to do more because of "nuance" in that it's not Citizen Kane, then you're no more than a mouthpiece for the blandest and lowest common denominator horseshit.

Why even review capeshit then, if they're so against the death of creativity in Hollywood? Why spend several of their precious few episodes giving any air to the microbudget horror movie scam where they say the same shit every single time, instead of highlighting one of the vast numbers of good movies they never mention instead?

It's almost like they consciously make an effort to keep things dumbed down to the same few paths instead of branching out and recommending actually difficult or challenging films, or films with very limited releases.

>>87612980
We know you're a shill bitch, just like them
