CBS had to know a strong player would immediately target Paul, too, which is why they made the first "twist" a lengthy safety. It would immediately mark whoever went after him. Give the house a scapegoat.

The friendship bracelets. The house guests were instructed to win his approval right off. But these idiots wanted Paul's approval. Big time. Because...

They had a couple of physical beasts. But as anyone who's seen even one season of BB knows, this only gets you so far. You have to be savvy, likeable, and make moves in the house to win.

Literally none of the house guests were capable of this at any time. None. None of the original house guests were savvy or socially intelligent. Cameron's strip tease. The "panda" remark controversy. Josh's pots and pans. They're a bunch of dumb, reactive floaters in need of a sense of purpose and identity. Paul provides this. Their purpose is trusting Paul.

Raven's exit interview: I played a great game. I trusted Paul. I threw comps for him.

It's truly fascinating to watch Josh sob as Alex reprimands him for making a good game move but a "bad friendship" move by voting Jason out. They have all completely bought in. Paul is a cult leader this season. Frankly, I don't think anyone in the house wants to win. Except maybe Kevin, who literally wraps himself in Saran Wrap because he thinks it's a good idea. The rest want to stay close to Paul as long as they can and keep his approval, and hopefully build their brands, maybe return to the show.
So, sure. Paul played a "good game". But it stopped being a game very quickly, and became something else. Cult really feels like the right word. At this point he's straight up abusing Josh and Kevin, and no one cares. He's lying to everyone else, blatantly, engaging in cartoon theatrics, and no one cares. Comps have been meaningless for weeks. It's not a game, and not even fun to watch. But it is kind of fascinating.

I doubt CBS expected the house to devolve like it has, or as quickly as it did. But you're kidding yourself if you think they did not fully intend to rebrand Paul as a "Big Brother Winner" with BB19.

The sheer amount of effort production put into getting Paul to the win is staggering.

This is far beyond what production gave to even their favorites like Jeff and Frankie. I mean as far as I've seen, production doesn't seem to like him that much. Julie talked shit about him, and talked up Cody.
