Sadly, in retrospect, it was much comfier than what we've ended up with. No one expected things to go belly up the way they did. Back in the late 90's you actually thought having a stable job and income was a drag and annoying.

The 90s was a great and fun time.

Many now redundant forms of media and lifestyle reached a kind of peak; music, cinema, magazines, newspapers, fashion etc. People still lived in a world they vaguely understood where things had just got constantly better, particularly in the period between the end of the cold war and the rise of Islamic terror.

Nothing new has really happened since, its all internet. Its noteworthy that music and fashion haven't changed really in about 20 years, its the first time stuff like this has stalled since the 1950s, there isn't any youth culture. If you went from, say, 1976-1986 you'd have had to burn all your clothes and records at least three times not to get laughed at in the streets.

The other thing is that politically, in the 90s people were over stuff, post-sex, post-race. You've got SJWs today pushing identity, the 90s vibe was that nobody gave a fuck (which still seems better to me). Its amazing how liberal people were compared to today where its all gone back to the 1950s.

While the technology changed, it really only improved on existing technology. The one exception would be the iphone/smart phone.

Otherwise, people really just did the exact same things today just in a different medium. Instead of Blockbuster we have Netflix, instead of chat rooms we have social media, instead of ps4 we had ps1.

In fact, the liberal and conservative elements also existed but were just backwards. Back then, conservatives complained and liberals rebelled. Today, its the opposite, with the conservatives being quiet and socially rebelling and the liberals loud and pushy.
