This retarded piece of shit is a runaway success. How does it feel to be on the wrong side of history?
>>
You tell us since you post on this board as well
I mean unless you're admitting you're not a /tv/ poster, but a tourist or shill :^)
>>
I'm on the right side of history: the side that knew it would make a lot of money while being a piece of crap
>>
HOW did It do it?
I thought most people hated the mini-series so much that they wouldn't even give this movie a chance

>>
>In addition to its domestic grosses, the horror hit is expected to pull in $62 million from 46 markets overseas, giving “It” a $179 million global debut. That’s a huge win for a movie with an estimated $35 million production budget.

Great movies make great money. Happens every time it's tried.

Heh. Well it's going to flop in China so no of those records matter. We win again.

they don't know anything

It will most likely make 2-10 millions from the overseas markets

By the end of its run, It will have made a grand total of 170-180 millions

since it's got a budget of 35 millions, then it needs 350 millions to start making profit, which means it'll flop hard

This was so fucking annoying, but I was alright with the film other than that.

Perfect timing really;

>Released as kids go back to school so children are on everyone's mind
>Released long enough after the first miniseries to be incredibly nostalgic for 25-35 year olds
>Coming off a summer filled with duds and lackluster blockbusters, audiences were hungry for something big, hyped and not too generic

I'm worried about this too. What made this movie a little refreshing was that it was an all-kid main cast in a fucked up scenario with South Park-tier adult language. Adults doing this shit will just be your run-of-the-mill R-rated horror film. They have a high bar to make the second one even more fucked up.

They have to become adults in order to escape and Bev instinctively knows that is the only way.

Think of it this way, their group came together for a reason, this is pretty strongly hinted at in the books that they're all being moved along by a 'Force' which opposes IT. King likes to use abstract bullshit like that all the time.
Either way, with the supposed 'defeat' of IT at the end of the first half, they lose their common goal and the reason for coming together and so they lose that guiding 'Force'. If you've read the Dark Tower books just think of it as their ka-tet breaking. Bev is also the most 'adult' of the group, outside of maybe Bill those he's autistic ally focused on revenge so maybe not. In effect she initiates the rest of the boys to her level and in doing so gives them all something in common once more, something only they share which allows the 'Group' to once more be established and they once again become something greater than the sum of it's parts.
>>
Still has yet to turn a profit.
>>
>>87565000
Alright, exactly. But this journalism:

>it affirms gendered stereotypes whereby female sexuality exists solely to serve and affirm men (in the book, Bev has sex with the boys to “unite” them after their first battle with Pennywise as children)

Is totally disingenuous and misleads anyone who hasn't read the book.

This is as much as it's going to make.

That's not correct. Now that most people are leaving the theatre with general praise, it'll sway others who had no interest to give it a shot. And a select few others who have seen it will bring friends or family to see it again next weekend.

>With a monster, $117 million opening weekend Warner Bros. and New Line's It has delivered a record-breaking opening, breathing a little life back into the slumping domestic box office. The film has claimed the largest September opening, largest Fall opening, the largest opening for an R-rated horror film, not to mention the largest opening weekend for a horror film of any MPAA rating, and tops Open Road's new release Home Again in second place by nearly $110 million. Overall, the film accounted for more than 75% of the combined gross for the weekend's top twelve, and we've only just begun.

>With an estimated $117 million, WB and New Line's It, an adaptation of the acclaimed Stephen King novel, claimed the weekend's #1 spot with ease, besting Open Road's new release of Home Again in second place by nearly $110 million, the fifth largest gap between first and second place all-time. The film also dusted the previous opening weekend record for an R-rated horror film, more than doubling Paranormal Activity 3's previous record of $52.5 million. In fact, It is already the fifth highest grossing R-rated horror film all-time after just three days in release.

>The horror film's debut was the widest opening ever for an R-rated film and as such delivered the second largest opening for an R-rated movie behind Deadpool's $132.4 million opening last February. Additionally, the previous opening weekend record for September was held by Hotel Transylvania 2 with $48.5 million and the previous Fall opening weekend record was Gravity's $55.7 million, neither of which stood a chance against It and combined don't even come within $10 million.

>It should be mentioned that rival estimates put It's opening over $120 million and some closer to $125 million. One obvious reason for the disparity has to do with Hurricane Irma hitting Florida this weekend where ~175 theaters are closed. The state typically represents 5.5-6.5% of the domestic gross each weekend.

>>
>>87565762

Internationally, It brought in an estimated $62 million from 46 markets for a $179 million global debut. The overseas numbers include the largest opening weekend for a horror film in the U.K. ($12.3m), Russia ($6.7m), Australia ($5.9m), Brazil ($5.6m), Netherlands ($1.4m) and Poland ($1.15m).

So you're saying, you are honestly fucking telling me that a movie that has made $180 million in 3 days with minimal foreign markets won't make another $120 million in its entire run. Also, you literally said earlier it needs to make 3 times its budget, so according to you that'd be $225 million. So by your own fucking numbers it needs to make $45 million, which IT WILL make that in the next week, to make a profit.

>>

I'm happy it's successful regardless of whether or not it's good since it's another R-rated movie that turned out to be well critically and financially, and that means they're going to be making more of them.

I would say that their is a general consensus of the flaws, and they are many, of the original miniseries.

The new film IT however does not have as many flaws that most people would agree upon. In fact, that may be what makes it a great film, the fact that people often vary in what they liked or didn't like in the new film.

>>
>>87566872
There have been quite a few really good horror films in the last 5 years or so. I genuinely enjoyed IT, but it is not a strict horror film like most films are. It is really reminiscent of the 80's films, where comedy mixed with horror was common.
>>
>>87567050
I know there have been good horror movies released, it's just been common that big studios like WB and Paramount always put out terrible ones.

Good horror usually comes from independent studios like A24.
>>

>>
>>87567455
The book is better, it actually goes into the mind and thoughts of IT. You can see that IT is actually scared and petty enough to genuinely hate the kids in the end fight. IT has a gigantic fucking ego and never once considered anything could hurt it. Experiencing fear for IT was something new despite being billions of years old.
>>
>>87566872
Agreed. That scene where Henry kills his dad after seeing the children sing on tv seemed straight out of a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, it was pretty well done

And I know the scene where Bev's sink is turned into a blood fountain is in the book originally but I feel like the way it was portrayed in the movie felt like a homage to Johnny Depp's character's famous death sequence from the original ANoES. I don't know if it was intentional though. Either way, it also felt like a cool callback
>>
>>87568742
>I don't know if it was intentional though.

Considering the theater in the movie is showing Nightmare on Elm Street 5 and has a poster for the film outside, I imagine it may be a little intentional. Remember IT was a New Line film.
>>
So let me get this straight:

Bev seemingly murders her dad.
Mike seemingly murders Bowers.

But no one in town actually cares? I'm guessing Bev moved out of town because of his dad's death, but what did her family say about that? Also, Bill could've called an ambulance, just in case.
>>
>>87569020
Oh yeah, that's true. Also, the way the camera pulls back to show all the blood hitting the ceiling in slow-mo was pretty identical do the way it happens in ANoES

There was actually news of a Nightmare reboot from 2015 but nothing has surfaced since then.

I'm willing to believe that New Line is using IT to gauge interest in a Nightmare reboot with a new actor as Freddy and a different story from the original. New Line Cinema has always been referred to as "The House that Freddy Built" so reviving the franchise is most likely high priority now.

That sounds interesting, the franchise really does need a new direction for people to be interested in it again. I would also like the backstory of Freddy Krueger to not be explained in full, the audience already knows who he is so redoing that would be unnecessary.

I like how IT handled not explaining the backstory of the creature and simply showed what IT can do.

Only thing that really disappointed me was Hockstetter's death. They could have still had the leeches. He could have fallen in the sewer water, stood up, and been covered in 'em. You retards tricked me into seeing this, and it was shit. It is literally capeshit with jumpscares, the CGI is awful, there's nothing scary in the entire movie. The only thing that could pass for frightening is how bad it is, and how much they depend on very loud noises to make the audience think they're scared. This is no different from any other shitty modern horror movie.

>>
>>87571567
Rings was absolute garbage and I'm glad it bombed but I'm also sad it killed the Friday reboot, it could've been terrible just like Rings but we'll never know.

Carpenter's returning to produce a Halloween sequel has the potential to be decent though, I hope that turns out well.
>>
>>87572055
Needs 3.5 billion to makes it money back, they spent a lot on viral marketting. We all need to get out there and see it to help support it and show the studio they can make money with more horror movies like this

According to the tripfag it needs $300 million to break even on a $35 million budget kek

Oh I saw it on friday, here are the people that were there:
>about a dozen teens+chaperones
>anon and friend
>big fat guy and his wife who sat fucking directly in front of us
>about 20 people in total in the form of moms, dads and kids too young to be there
>3 kids who appeared to have snuck in
>seven or eight weirdos near the back, plus some indian dudes

it's because all kinds of forgettables would rather see a clown film than be alone on friday

Agreed, especially regarding Freddy's origins. One of the things I liked the most about IT is how they didn't bother explaining him, like you said

I just remembered the deal WB/New Line made in 2013 where they gave up their partial rights to Friday the 13th and South Park for Interstellar and that Paramount have the entire rights to the Friday IP should they make a new film in the next 5 years

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/christopher-nolans-interstellar-warner-bros-562879
>However, there is a catch: Sources say Paramount only enjoys the rights for both titles for the next five years and has that amount of time to make follow-up movies.

HOWEVER, Paramount cancelled the Friday reboot that was supposed to shoot back in March and release this October. Unless Paramount scraps together a Friday film before an unspecified date in 2018, WB/New Line is going their partial ownership of the IP back.

It can mind control and psychologically effect people - the whole point of Georgie was the psychological trauma causes Billy to forget the situation he is in momentarily.

The Georgie illusions aren't there to scare Billy - they're there to isolate Billy and make him vulnerable so he is easier to scare
