I actually thought it was some sort of meme untill I actually read the book.

One can argue that it was some sort of hamfisted attempt at making it clear that the kids no longer was children, after all they had experienced, and that they got propelled towards adulthood and childhood was coming to an abrupt end.

But it came so out of nowhere, emotionless and felt so forced it sort of tainted the ending of the book. It was completely unnecesary. It felt like King has written some pedo fanfiction in the middle of his book out of boredom and forgot to remove it before he sent it to his publisher.

Which is "more graphic" is really subjective. I argue that the sex scene is more graphic than any of the deaths, you don't agree, so we'll just have to agree to disagree that we share different opinions here.

What isn't a matter of opinion is the length of the scenes. Stephen King spends more pages on a child sex scene that is omitted from both the television and film adaptions than he does on the child murder that is the instigating event of the entire book. That's a fact.

But more importantly, the child sex is portrayed as positive. It's how the children get out of the sewers (even though it makes no sense) and the description of it is entirely positive. This is in stark contrast to the killings. If Stephen King had portrayed the killings as a positive thing, again, people would have a problem with them. He didn't. This book is clearly anti-killing kids, but pretty pro-kid sex.

That's not an argument for your side. You want them to change the characters and scenes because of moral outrage. We want them to be free to do as they like with no pressure.

Exactly. If King is so proud and defensive over that scene why wasn't it in the new movie? Obviously there couldn't be a full scene but they could have left it implied. The reason being because most people that watched the film over the weekend have never read the book or never will and would likely have found the scene strange and in poor taste
