Why is this so praised? Aside from R Lee Ermey's dialogue it's an extremely generic war movie.
>>87546171
Roger Ebert pls
>>87546171
Everybody forgot it had a second half. Paths of Glory is the true Kubrick war kino
>>87546171
>my inability to engage with the film's emotional content is the film's fault
Thanks for posting.
>>87546171
>tfw nobody remembers anything beyond boot camp
I mean it might as well have ended there
>the fight with that female gook gunner in the burnt building
Don't remember specific details but that and the ending with the marines walking in darkness with the fire around them is pure /kino/
>>87546171
"muh Kubrick", quite literally.
Pleb Status: Filtered
>>87548230
>man goes to bootcamp
>sarge abuses fatso
>fatso kills sarge then suicides
>man goes to war
>man fights vietcong grill sniper
>the end
>>87548428
nigga got to come in a thread and prove me wrong
>>87546171
there was absolutely nothing "generic" about it retard, and I don't think following the fate of that one squad Joker attached to makes it a "war movie"
>>87548230
Everyone remembers "Me So Horny"
>>87548029
>>87548230
>muh I never want the funny guy to stop yelling at the fat guy
it truly is a pleb filter
so private joker was the main character right?
The 2nd half is the best pleb filter ever
>>87549145
true this
>>87549118
this
the second half is better than the first half, great Kubrickian dark comedy
but the first half is still kino
>>87548290
>My thoughts drift back to erect-nipple wet dreams about Mary Jane Rottencrotch, and the Great Homecoming Fuck Fantasy. I am so happy that I am alive, in one piece and short.
>I am so happy that I am short
What did Private Joker mean by this? Is he a manlet and proud of it?
>>87546171
Movie only gets gud after Ermy dies. Fact.
>>87549145
so pleb filter mean it filters OUT the plebs (plebs don't like it) or does it to mean that you are a pleb if you like it? I do not understand.
>>87549962
the act of asking what pleb filter means is itself a pleb filter
>>87549994
but for who?
>>87549962
pleb filter
filter pleb
think about those two for a moment and you'll get your answer.
>>87546171
I know it may not occur to those who have never been in combat but the second half was showing how insane modern combat can be. The single sniper picking off a platoon is really not an uncommon occurrence, especially in gorilla warfare. That what what Kubrick was trying convey in the film. How one seemingly minor opposition can be game changing in the field of battle. Now I'm a sailor, but my brother in law who is a marine has a particularly interesting story that really reminds me of this movie. When he arrived in Afghanistan the first thing he learned was that there was sniper in the region who was killing marines and had been there for a week or so. Shortly after his arrival the sniper was caught. Know who it was? A fucking Russian women mercenary women and midget afghan. Literally no shit. That is what this movie is trying to convey. Shit happens in war
>>87550480
>gorilla warfare
>>87550480
That never happened and your brother knows it.
>Know who it was? A fucking Russian women mercenary women and midget afghan.
>>87549962
what's not intuitive about the concept for me is that a filter is normally used to separate part of something that is desirable whereas the plebs are in this case undesirables
>>87550531
I'm drunk. fight me. are you gonna argue with me over grammar or my points?
>>87550583
just a little banter m8
>>87550573
he's been in the marines 12 years and has never seen combat. He has no reason to lie. Besides friends who served with him have also told me the same story.
>le 2nd half is bad meme
>>87548230
>We're jolly green giants walking the Earth with guns guy
>entire hooker scene
>GET SOME guy
>What's that supposed to be some kinda sick JOKE? guy
>Mickey Mouse
>>87546171
>generic war movie
name one war movie like it. Apocalypse Now does not count. It isn't a war movie
>>87550576
"filter out" is way more used than "filter in"
>>87550950
ok that's a better way to think about it
>>87548357
>>87549118
>>87549145
>>87549592
So the dumb action movie portions with absolutely no point are the pleb filters? I fucking hate this retarded contrarian board. You will defend ANY opinion as long as it isn't popular.
>>87551444
>t. pleb
>>87550583
Since when is Spelling the same as Grammar?
>>87550834
In terms of combining every single cliche? You're right, nothing else pulled that off. I'll list them
>Dude marines use profanity and make sex jokes lmao XD
>Dude every single soldier has an ironic anti war outlook XD
>Dude soldiers like, use prostitutes haha
>And like, everyone has a nickname xd
>And their guns never run out of ammo!
The only it thing it didn't do was start playing it ain't me
>>87546171
>>87548029
>>87548230
second half is literally the best part
>>87551468
t. pleb
The unpopular parts aren't always pleb filters, sometimes they're unpopular because they just suck. Please offer a good reason as to why the second half is actually an in any way unique look at the vietnam war.
Take a look at this

>inb4 "roger ebert is a hack now because he disagrees with me"
>>87550480
your brother in law is a lying faggot
>>87551741
the entire movie went over your head
>>87551774
This is the patrician opinion.
I wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them.
>>87552335
Incredible argument
>>87552385
The definition of "really makes me think"
i think i was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir
>>87549638
If you're taller, you're a bigger target
>>87552662
the duality of man private joker?
love this flick from the first scene to the last
