So what is with the blatant corporate shilling of IT , or is the internet just entirely the bitch of astroturfing now? i noticed it around when they cut off imdb msg boards. then they started filling rottentomatoes with shills like Chris Stuckmann . now they're astroturfing /tv/
>>
WB just hire really bad shills who make no effort to be subtle.

>>
>>87538133
I honestly have no idea what the fuck is up with the shills. Not promoting free discussion on here is really gay tho. The movie however, imho, was a solid 5/10. Bad pacing, underwritten characters, shitty references, and tonal imbalances plague it.

This. Disney is the same. I think Sony might be the worst, though - whoever they hire seems to just try and make everyone upset to try and drum up controversy and pretend that it's hype - like that whole Girlbusters "drama".

>>
>>87538294
It's not that they liked the movie, it's just the tone and style of their posts. I couldn't logically describe it to you if my life depended on it, but there's just a certain way of digitally "speaking" that people who have been here before tend to have, so when it's someone's first day on 4chan their posts tend to stand out. A lot of the positive IT posts have that artificial marketing tone to them. Again, obviously I have no way of knowing for sure, but that's just the vibe I get.
>>
>>87538328

literally nobody gives a shit about it though. Only hype I've seen for It has been artificially created through reddit/4chan/youtube shillings.

Do the smart thing and watch the free trailer before you spend money on the movie. Trailers are commercials for movies. If you didn't like a trailer for a movie, you're completely justified in not paying money to watch the movie. On the other hand, if the trailer looks good to you, then by all means give it your money.

This weird notion that you "can't just not see a movie because of its trailer!' never made any sense to me. Obviously you can't write a complete critical review of a movie without seeing it, but when it comes to deciding whether or not you, the consumer, decide to buy your movie ticket to go see it, the trailer is all you have to go on, so making the decision based off of the trailer is a completely logical decision. Get it?

>>
>>87538497
I can describe it logically. Knowing it'll just make shills better at their job.

It's because the posts aren't saying anything specific, meaningful, or debatable. Its just a long string of different ways of saying "i liked it," over and over. Which, thanks to marketing, there are a fucking ocean of ways to say. Then if they do mention any sort of negative aspect, its just a tactic to make the post seem genuine and not overly positive.

So the only two possibilities are either the internet is filled with tons of people who can't say anything meaningful or someone was paid to post the long meaningless post. Either way its bad for 4chan.
>>
>>87538722
I've actually seen several posts using the word "cuck" that I would bet small amounts of real money on being fake. I'm not talking about dumb meme words or over-the-top offensive language. It's not as concrete as that.
>>
>>87538812

to be fair, these are mostly indians. Evident in how they'll consistently start acting like the weekend is completely over early sunday, the numbers for saturday are already in around noon, and the movie is already in full release a day before its actually out.

and being indians, their handler would have to explain what cuck nigger faggot meant and the proper usage of them or they'd just come off even weirder.

This is the cheapest and easiest way to influence young impressionable people, video games and movies are especially easy to convince this demographic to go and spend money on.
>>
>>87538942
I've seen lots of threads and posts mocking specific scenes, and counter-posts saying that the scenes were actually scary and not funny, but it was the detractors who initially brought up the specific scenes, not the promoters.
>>
>>87538942
scenes that were in the trailer.

Also you did notice how there are a lot of little camrips of specific scenes, right? But no actual camrip? And they all seem to be from the same (incredibly shitty) source?

>>
>>87538947

I was thinking probably Filipinos or Taiwanese, but yeah whatever the case, there's definitely a slight idiomatic language barrier.

I mean I understand that getting 5 bucks a day for a desk job with a western corporation is hitting the motherlode in those places, but it really fucks with the experience of visiting this site, makes it just feel like any other social network when it used to feel like a forum.
>>
>>87539055
Because its cheap and that other 20% exists. This is an extremely popular website
>>
>>87539011
No? There have been plenty of posts that spoiled things like what the leper looks like, the ending of the movie, etc.
>>
>>87538861
I agree completely, modern trailers spoil way too much. If you already know that you want to see the movie, then my advice doesn't apply at all. I'm talking about people who are unsure of whether or not they want to see a movie. Trailers and word of mouth are all they have.
>>
>>87539055
They'll market any place they can.
>>
This film wasn't bad. In fact it was better than the original. The original was made under an obvious cheap budget, with shit tier actors, aside from Tim Curry, which basically made the move. The movie was based on an original novel by Stephen King, which everyone knows. Practically all of his movies are cheesey but if you appreciate the storyline, you can somehow overcome those lame moments where you can't help but laugh. This time around though, they certainly paid homage to the original film. Not only that, the effects were on point and rolled pretty well overall with the flow of the movie. There was a nice balance between the overkill of CGI work and the authenticity of the storyline. IMO people were excited to see this remake due to its originality of the plot, and what I mean by that is not just another paranormal shitivity or Annasmell movie. It was creative and enjoyable. 8/10 in my book.
>>
>>87539025
4chan isn't a secret club with ten people on it nowadays, it's a huge fucking website that's acknowledged as a taste defining phenomenon on the internet. Why the fuck wouldn't people shill here?

>>8753834
That's the problem with "argument" fags and molememe watching aspies. Not everything is an argument.
One doesn't need to reply to an argument with a counter argument at all.

Or do you not understand that "I like this movie and found it good" can't be deconstructed? No one needs to tell you why they like anything at all ever.

another shill tactic I noticed is that if they say anything negative, it will almost always be something that could be seen as a positive to pretty much anyone just spun to sound like it's coming from a dumbass. Best way to explain is example:

>I hated it, it had too many jump scares and scary scenes!
>2/10 the clown was too creepy which scared my little brother. Warning: Do not take your children to see this!
>The actors were too beautiful, it made me feel bad about myself
>that movie was boring. It doesn't deviate enough from the book and relied too much on creepy atmosphere rather than good storytelling
>>
>>87539117
If I'm unsure then I'm sure the trailer will just ruin the movie. So I just wait till I can watch the movie then decide if I want to spend money on it.

Weird how that works, right?
>>
>>87538745

I'm going to break your fucking minds.
The shills aren't the people saying they like the movie. The shills are the ones screaming shill.
From a marketing point there is no better testimonial than a heartfelt one. So by crying shill they're making you do their job.
Screen cap and share so that shills need a new strategy.
>>
>>87539304
Its pretty obvious who is a shill and who isnt, it depends on how they respond to you.
>>
>>87539262

Not if they didn't know she was in it. Hence the marketing.

Jesus, it's not like it's hard to spot.

>>87539253

>>
>>87538568
Not really, it's the only wide release movie coming out this week and despite what morons are insisting, it is an incredibly hyped movie.
>>
>>87539207
If you want a 100% reliable way to form your own opinion of a movie's content and not rely on other people's subjective criticism, a trailer is all you have. Yes, trailers can be deceptive, but you are seeing the things that the marketing guys think will get you to see the movie. Your participation in the market will determine whether or not they're correct.

Probably some of the most blatant astroturfing I've ever seen for any non-Marvel film. It's so fucking mediocre and it's working off of existing material, so if you praise the story you're not even praising the film. The acting is atrocious, terrible script, awful Pennywise, not scary, hilarious wiggling kills any and all intensity of every Pennywise scene etc.

Why would you pay money to go see a movie that you already pirated? I mean, okay, if you see a low-quality pirated version of a movie you might be compelled to go see the real thing afterwards, but typically the point of piracy is to completely avoid paying any money at all.

And even if you did go to a movie, it was shit, and you got your money back, that's still two hours of your life you burned away on nothing, when you could have spent two minutes watching the trailer and saved yourself the trouble.

Negro, you are, at absolute best, saying that carefully crafted commercials for movies that will show you only the good parts and none of the bad parts (often all of the good parts in the case of modern comedies) is the only way to determine if a movie is good. And by good, I mean, worth money, as that is what the term means in our modern nightmare reality.

You're either a marketer or retarded. Which is the underlying implication of calling someone shill, that they're either marketing or fucking stupid. So it amuses me to no end to see people stand up and insist, with great determination, they aren't marketers.

I never said stop. In fact I'm pretty sure I said to screencap and confront them with it "so they change tactics" or something along those lines.

Remember that boxing match thing that blanketed the entire internet for a week? I can't even remember the time before that when some shitty boxing match ever made the news. Same thing happened then. Just a shit load of paid shills all over the fucking place.
>>
>>87538215
Actually, it is terrible. Are you 12?
>>
>>87540400
It was the last math of the best boxer currently still active maybe all time so it was understandable.
>>
>>87538300
No, that's actually a legit tactic for getting people to shill for you. They did it for that emoji movie too.
>>
>>87540471
Naw, just paid shilling is all it was. No one irl was even talking about it and I live around sports freaks that love that sort of shit.
>>
>>87540486
I think you're just misunderstanding that 4chan shills don't have to actually think about what they post. Just keep posts on the front page.
>>
>>87539246
Hes right. The same happens on reddit.

Remember when the Ghostbusters trailer came out? And when it got such a calamitous negative backlash, because it was showing parts of the actual, terrible movie? Do you know what people involved in the movie started saying then? They started saying, "Judge the movie on its own merits, not by the trailer!"

One of the points I'm making is that if you decide whether or not to see a movie based purely off of the trailer, that is completely reasonable. I'm also saying that if you're worried about shills or paid critics or anything like that, if you DON'T trust other people's opinions, a trailer is the best piece of information you have as to a movie's quality before you watch the actual movie. There are other pieces of information, like the cast or the director or the screenwriter, but plenty of good actors and good directors have been involved in bad movies.

Keep in mind that the post that started this whole chain of discussion was someone saying that they didn't know whether or not to trust the comments they were seeing online because they weren't sure who was and wasn't a shill. That was the context of everything I've been saying.

actually after the terrible trailer the marketers started telling people that all criticism was from straight white men (the evilest people ever) and to go see the movie anyway as a fuck you to them.

And besides, you're inadvertently making an argument that movie quality is irrelevant to movie quality, and all that really matters is trailer quality.

>you're inadvertently making an argument that movie quality is irrelevant to movie quality
Holy Christ on a cross, no I'm fucking not. Can you grasp the context of what I'm saying? Like, do you understand the difference between saying that a movie itself is irrelevant to its own quality and saying that a trailer is a good indicator of whether or not you'll enjoy a movie? Do you understand that those two ideas don't even exist in the same fucking solar system? Let me spell this shit out for you.

Okay. If you want to form an opinion on a movie's quality, watch the movie.

If you want to make an educated guess as to a movie's quality, WITHOUT SEEING THE MOVIE BECAUSE YOU'RE TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO SPEND YOUR MONEY, a trailer is a good way to inform that guess.

What the fuck is so hard to understand? Given the parameters that were established earlier in the discussion (don't trust other people's subjective opinions) what else besides the names attached to it can possibly tell you whether or not a movie is worth spending money on? That decision is something every consumer has to make before they go to see a movie in the movie theater. That's what spending money to see a movie is. It's taking a risk by spending your money on something that could be shit, and there are various factors that can inform you as to the chances of the thing you're spending money on being shit. One of those factors is the trailer. Are you capable of comprehending this?

>why is everyone shilling this movie?
>OMG REE RETARD EVERYONE LOVES THIS MOVIE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. LOOK AT THESE MOVIE REVIEWS ALL POSITIVE 90% ROTTEN TOMATOES AND THIS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER THESE NO SUCH THING AS SHILLS EVERYONE IS ALLOWED TO LIKE WHAT THEY WANT YOU'RE JUST MAD PEOPLE LOVE THIS MOVIE

Normal retard (non-shill)

Paqeal Vs Mayweather (i dont care how you spell either of their names). You've had to have heard of it. This one was mayweather's 50th game which would've been his 50th win in a row vs an accomplished MMA fighter in his first boxing match on top of unsteady race relations. The race relations thing is probably why it was all over 4chan for the most part.

>>87541026
>a trailer is a good indicator of whether or not you'll enjoy a movie
this is never true unless you're a fuckwit

Earlier (>>87539438) you also said that trailers are 100% reliable, the only way to form your own opinion of a movie. This is also laughable.

You also don't seem to know what "inadvertent" means.
>>
>>87540535
people at my college were all talking about Pacqiao vs Mayweather, I assume they were talking about McGregor vs. Mayweather irl too. Leave your basement sometime

>>87541906
Because it was all over their facebook and twitter feeds.

The fight was brought up in this thread because unless you had a phone jammed up your ass, you didn't hear (or care) about that shit.
