ITT: movies that blow your mind when you're just getting into film but after years of cultivating filmic knowledge you realize it's a poorly made piece of shit

>PTA's entire filmography
False. He's one of the very best American writers & filmmakers of his generation, only the Coen brothers are ahead of him. Just because normies like them too doesn't mean they aren't good.
Aronofsky is overrated, Black Swan is overrated, but still far from a "poorly made piece of shit"
>>87532867
how is it poorly made?
definitely not poorly made but really nothing special
>>87532867
Once you get so far you realize all movies and tv are really just fucking shit and exist solely for making quick money and social propaganda.

>quick money
It's like the most difficult industry to succeed in, especially if you're making personal non-franchise films like PTA or Aronofsky.

That's when you start reading books

>Coen brothers
*inhales*
how do you "cultivate your filmic knowledge"?
>>87533237
That's what I did most of my life. They are just as bad. I really didn't realize how bad until the internet came into being and realized that all those old books read like fan fiction and blog posts.

It is still quick money.
Everything made by Tarantino with the exception of Jackie Brown and maybe Reservoir Dogs.

It usually takes years between financing a film and getting it to market, and even then it's a total gamble whether or not it'll make a profit. Most films fail financially, many never even get finished or released. You have no idea what you're talking about, and your "everything sucks" mentality is a symptom of deep depression rather than intellectual superiority

black swan has an enjoyable Giallo quality to it...though its a little too well made to really work. Seeing as most Neo-Giallo is pointless Cinematic Masturbation i ended up really enjoying it

You have no clue about how money laundering works, kid.
