>tfw some normie faggot thinks this movie is about "le follow your dreams", and about sacrificing "each other" in order to be successful.

Watch the damn commentary with Damien Chazelle, you know, the fucking director. Why is it that out of all the people who misinterpret this film normies are always the ones who are the most off?

Normies watch movies to enter a state of braindead entertaining escape and take little away from what they watch, aside from what was cool or if they saw some tiddies. Meanwhile, kinosseurs watch film to absorb the art form and actually appreciate the work that went into making the production.

what did the director say the meaning was then?

The point was you need to sacrifice something to achieve real happiness
When it showed their flashback of what could have been it was clear that they would be more happy together without their dream career than they are now
>>
>>87525402
it's because normies are usually incredibly narcissistic

Did everyone really miss the point of La La Land? It's not a film about romanticizing Hollywood, it's a film about realizing that no matter how much you think success will bring you happiness, if you pass on the love of your life you'll be stuck living a life of regret. That's why both Seb and Mia acknowledged that they had failed despite all their apparent success.

That's the central theme of the film, it's an homage to the classic Hollywood romance that usually stands above all odds, only this time around it fails in order to highlight and remind us that the importance of real love is what truly matters, above all else, and especially success. That's why the bittersweet ending is so effective, they both achieve what they think they want, but are left still wanting more, or more specifically that which they already had and lost.

>DUDE WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT INTENT JUST FABRICATE WHATEVER MEANING YOU WANT

This is the most retarded position you can take concerning fictional works.

I don't really see it as they failed. it's pretty apparent that they're both happy and satisfied, it's just that they realize they could have been happy and satisfied being average people together as well.
>>
>>87525508
A lot of normies were taught to find subtext in high school English class but most of them don't understand it or are too dumb to consider the author/director's intent.

not being facetious here at all, but this post really activated my almonds

Yes, it's a very cynical film with a disgusting message. The girl was in awe at the end, very happy being rich, famous and married with a child. Nothing indicates she regrets her decision.
>>
>>87526543
Other than her crying
And the fact that she never smiled with her husband that we see and in the flashback everything looks genuine and happy
>>
>>87525650
Pretty much this. Normies watch this film and assume it's about achieving their dreams specifically because they can't even begin to think about anything without thinking of themselves. The narcissism of Normies is obviously exclusively self-serving.
