"Masterpiece" is taking it pretty far.
Certainly is better than most sci-fi, though. Applegate and her army of ghostwriters at least tried to make the different aliens not just humans with hats. It's better sci-fi than typical sci-fi stuff like star trek, which is pretty amusing all things considered.

Even in the beginning, there are consequences to their actions.
It doesn't shy away from violence and trauma, and the end, all of them are right proper fucked in the head
