contrary to what /tv/ """patricians""" claim, there is no general scale to measure movie quality. We all have our own tast in movies (for example I think pic related is the best movie ever made). Ive seen the movie and liked it, but thats purely because I love sci-fi and stuff with harfison ford in it.
If you try 3 ties alredy and didnt like it you shouldnt force yourself to watch it for the 4th time.
My rule of thumb is: If you like the trailers, you will, probably, like the movie.

i was not interested in it at all when it came since i was young and hated anything romantic back then. so over the years i avoided it due to this, then simply forgot about it altogether. now it's almost a novelty, it's the only big movie i have not seen and i kind of like to keep it that way. i still know a lot about it from reading tidbits and articles over the years. almost no point seeing it, apart from crossing it off my list, compared to movies i know nothing about.

Really? I watched it and was absolutely blown away by how modern it felt, movies made even 10, 20 years later often feel older to watch than Citizen Kane

>>

>>87411094

>>
>>87412024
true. Although to say I like it very much would be like saying a kids drawing is good "for a child". It's remarkably modern and fresh compared to other films of its time, but if I want to watch a modern film I'll watch a modern film. But it's really shockingly good for 1941, like remarkably good.
>>
>>87412253
I'm not taking this, you uncultured swine. Give me one (1) aspect of Citizen Kane that is lacking compared to modern films in the same way a child's art compares to an adult's. The cinematography, directing, and editing of Citizen Kane is up to scratch and exceeds many modern films. Don't resort to the black and white meme because modern films, i.e. Raging Bull and Schindler's list, sometimes use it as a device today.
>>

>>
>>87412616
Saw it for the first time a few weeks back. It's an okay movie, although I could only grasp it's message in broad strokes. Didn't understand a lot of the smaller details.
Interestingly, it told me more about an old friend I haven't spoken to in years. Was his favourite film.
>>
>>87412481
You really misunderstood what I said. I didn't say it was a child movie, what I meant by that was that it is a cop out that people use for older films. Instead of talking about the film itself they say shit like "it's good for its time". That's why I said that about children drawings, it's like that, where people don't judge the drawing but just say "it's good for a kids drawing". So, for me, Citizen Kane is really spectacular in that regard and has some great shots and great scenes but it was hard for me to look at it objectively without being influenced by the MASSIVE reputation it has.
>>

you have to be retarded to really believe this
>>
>>87411120
Titanic is the best movie on that list. I guess that's my "confession".
>>
>>87414468
How is no one understanding what I meant? I meant that people too often watch old movies and then just say shit like "it's good for its time" without really talking about the movie itself, just the age and context it was made in. So I said I liked Citizen Kane but I can't tell if it's because I really liked it or because of the big reputation and hype around it.

Sorry senpai, normal TV stuff is boring as shit, seasons 1-3 of GoT were the only things more exciting than video games because of the plotting and scheming. The only reason I continue to watch it is I need closure and the show is lore now because the fat fuck writing the books is never going to finish them before he dies of a heart attack.

The message was basically about finding out who you are and accepting that everyone has limitations. It has an interesting take on Communism/anarchy and how it's destined for failure no matter how hard society craves it, because society cannot exist without organization combined with free will. The main character wants to belong to something that matters because he cannot find meaning in his life, then realizes how batshit fucking crazy people can become when like-minded individuals congregate to his force of personality and wants nothing to do with them.

Supposedly the book that the film was based on is infinitely crazier, I really want to read it just to see what could inspire that film.

I liked batman forever more than batman returns.
Returns was basically just Tim Burton porn, like so many of his films. Extremely bizarre silliness, random gothic darkness, and a soundtrack that was more transparently "Elfman" than the batman 1989 soundtrack.
To be honest I just fucking hate Tim Burton and almost everything he makes. His style requires no proper talent, and he always relies on his heavy handed gimmick.

Then there's batman forever. I'm not saying it was a masterpiece, it was a mess of consumerism in general, but it made itself a well balanced flick with good sequences/scoring.
