I would genuinely be curious how much freedom Lynch was given. I feel like maybe he was given a tad too much. The show might have benefited from some execs pushing for a slightly less disjointed and unfocused narrative.

The Return is to Lynch what the Star Wars Prequels were to Lucas.

The whole thing was good, but honestly the driving and overall slowness of the second episode gets to me. It's good at instilling a sense of dread but shit like Evil Coop being at the sheriff's station and the awesome shift of FWWM makes it better in my book.
>>
>>87378651
doppelgangers don't have the milky eyes outside of the Lodge. Originally he didn't even have the black eyes, remember Coop right after he woke up had normal eyes. It's only for the Return that they changed it up a bit and had him have black eyes. iirc Kyle suggested that since it's visually very striking.

Complete. It was a condition of his return that he be given completely control and final cut. That's why initially they refused to have him in the project and he got the fans and actors to rebel until they caved.

>>
>>87378560
They were between the real world and the other dimension when they went to that motel. Sort of like the Black Lodge, but it was an area that the spirits didn't have access/control over. Cooper and Diane fucking triggered her trauma, which allowed access to the Carrie Page dimension.

Diane and Cooper became Richard and Linda in that universe. Not literally, but those were their identities.
>>
>>87378560

It was Richard and Linda. Once you understand this that whole sequence makes a lot more sense.

It's Linda that sees a vision of Diane as Diane and Coop try to enter their world. Not Diane seeing a vision of Linda.
>>
>>87378597

From Coop came Mr. C. From Coop and Mr. C came "Richard Coop," who came from two, not just one. He is "a level above" or "aligned" with the magic that created Mr. C from Coop. She had two diaries. One she left out in the open and looked like a normal teenage girls diary. The other was her hidden diary where she wrote about getting raped by BOB/Leland since she was a child, her drug abuse, her multiple boyfriends, drinking, and terrifying visions.

One day she goes to get her secret diary from it's hiding spot and finds all the pages that mention BOB/Leland are ripped out, so it's assumed he found it and ripped them out. Later on Leland puts them inside the bathroom door in the sheriff office because he was afraid of the cops finding them when he was in custody.

Audrey was in a coma since the bomb blast at the bank. She never left the coma. She was raped and gave birth while still in a coma.

Every scene with Audrey takes place completely within her comatose brain. Her husband who keeps asking her if she is ready to "leave the house yet" is her subconscious trying to get her to wake up.

I think Lost Highway is more subtle. The atmosphere of the house at the beginning is like nothing in Mulholland Drive, which has an over-the-topness to it, it's way more in-line with Twin Peaks. Something like the homeless man behind the diner just doesn't belong in Lost Highway. Neither would the evil old couple. I hate people who say the two are "basically the same movie." Mulholland Drive is still better I think, but Lost Highway is not to be dismissed as a "stepping stone to Mulholland Drive".

The point is that there is no plan, there is no rules to the Twin Peaks universe. They just make shit up from episode to episode, there's no point looking for clues or looking for hidden meaning or deepness because nothing that happens in the show has *any* meaning if there's no real thought that went into it and how things happen.

It's all just whatever the fuck Frost and Lynch want no matter how little it fits with what's happened before or how little it makes sense. There's no forethought happening here. You aren't smart for being intrigued by plots that don't add up, you're an idiot for deluding yourself into thinking it's something brilliant.

I don't know how people can shit all over a show like Lost for not actually having any sort of plan or real ideas behind it, but then praise this empty hollow facade of bullshit that is Twin Peaks.

I don't think that's what it means

In many interviews, Lynch talks about his love for the TP world and characters. He likes to imagine they keep existing outside of the show. So what he means is that we are just seeing a glimpse into that world, and that it keeps going whether there's a season 4 or not,.

I'm glad there are other people willing to admit it. I still thoroughly enjoyed the series for the visuals and the little moments it sets up. But all these retarded faggots pretending the show is oh so deep or that there's actual clues hidden throughout the series that can be used to find out what happens next or even that Lynch/Frost actually have a specific discernible meaning behind the story which can be interpreted is all just so fucking retarded.

The way people go on and on about how deep it all is reminds me of the fan base of Rick and Morty style fawning sometimes. Just so cringey.

How the hell can people make it through 17 episodes of Lynch and then give up on 18?

Episodes 1-16:
>main conflict is between Cooper and Mr. C, one of them must die and return to the lodge
>hints at some sort of powerful lodge spirit awakened by the nuclear bomb to explain BOB's existence and Laura's
>lots of fun Twin Peaks storylines
>based Dougie

Episodes 17-18:
>nah son the main conflict has been between Cooper and JEW-DIE the whole time, Mr. C is irrelevant
>anime fights
>resolving storylines? nah, let's just go back in time and save Laura from dying, erasing the entire series so far from existence
>eh let's not even really resolve that, let's spend the entire last episode in a world we're completely unfamiliar with

Episodes 17 and 18 are good. They're just not a good conclusion.

the point is that JEW-DIE was made up for S3

in FWWM, she was intended to be some girl, most likely Josie's sister.

the plans for JEW-DIE were not in place when FWWM was made, this is obvious when you watch the missing pieces

For me the disconnect of the final two episodes reinforces the notion that they were more about exploring the notion of returning to the story of Twin Peaks itself then they were about properly concluding the story.

The first ending (Bob ball blows up happy reunion end) is clearly a mockery of the notion that the conflict could or should be resolved in such a neat, fanservice like way. The following episode feels much more like the entire series in microcosm. What happens when you go back into the dream, reach back into the past to try to bring it back to Twin Peaks? Nothing is the same, the past is forgotten, or is it? Laura is suddenly forced to relive the trauma all over again in the final moments, was the effort worth the pain?
>>
>>87381047
except that MIKE and BOB and Mike and Bobby are all clearly established and understood to be different people, when a character is talking about one of them there is never any confusion as to who they're talking about

There is one Judy, always has been, except who she is has changed over time in the minds of Lynch and Frost. When FWWM was made, she was some girl Jeffries was trying to contact. Now, she's been retconned into being an uberpowerful lodge demon.

You can like JEW-DIE all you want, but don't pretend like this was planned all along.

I'm not, I think the PERSON Judy was meant to be a planned character for the sole reason of it also being relevant as a "twin" name of JUDY - similar to there being Mike and Bobby to MIKE and BOB.

Problem was, Lynch & Frost never actually gave us a character named Judy. They clearly planned to, but scrapped the idea. Everything would have made more sense if Josie was just named Judy to get it out of the way, honestly.

The dreamer is the lodge and the spirits within it, we live within their dream.

Richard and Linda were Cooper and Diane's equivalents in another dream, a dream in which neither Cooper nor Laura had ever existed.

Cooper wants Laura to "wake up," to join him in the lodge, the true higher plane of reality. He wants to do this by reuniting her with her mother, which Judy tries to prevent, but ultimately Carrie remembers herself as Laura and wakes up.

What happens next, no one can say.

THE TRUTH:

Lynch made the finale as intentionally vague as he could, in every single detail, so no theory could be proven or disproven by any single detail, or even any group of details.

The plan was to make us endlessly speculate and theorize, the answer always out of reach.

Lynch is collecting garmonbozia as we speak and we're all feeding him. This is the ultimate LYNCHING.

She managed to escape into Coop's dream, where he's created a Laura that is alive.

She's trapped in an insane asylum.

In Coop's dream however, her name is Linda

So here's my bullshit opinion that doesn't really matter. I really enjoyed the last two episodes from an artistic standpoint, but if there is no season 4 or film then episode 18 only leaves questions narratively. However episode 17 actually ends with a clearer message than episode 18. When Laura disappears the look on Coop's face is enough to end the series on. Laura's gone, Cooper can't save her, ever, end of show. Add episode 18 and you lose the magic. If the series ends on 18, then yes, ep. 18 works, but it has a much more cliffhanger feel than simply ending it at 17 would. Things change if more gets made, but how likely is it at this point? Again just my autistic opinion.

On a slightly different note: I didn't have a problem with the unresolved side plots this season, but I didn't like how many there were. Other than that, pretty damn good Lynch kino.
