Spielberg is only as good as America is at the time he's working, it's objectively true if you don't believe me you can check for yourself

He's an old dinosaur who benefited immensely from the funneling of information pre-internet. Some of his films still stand up but most of the ones that do only do so as guilty pleasures. The Terminal is unironically one of his best movies despite how boring it is because it actually shows competency for the entire runtime.

He got old and probably tired of making adventure films, although he still makes pretty solid movies like Lincoln and Munich.

Just be glad we have great films like Jaws, Duel, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones to look back on for the rest of time.
