so here's my read on episode 18 :

>cooper saves Laura from being killed by BOB
>this triggers judy (as seen at the end of ep 17) who reaps Laura in revenge and takes her to another dimension, where she lives a shitty life
>coop goes to the lodge and the arms tells him about the girl "down the lane", he makes the connection with the 430 number
>goes to the other dimension with Diane
>at this point I guess Diane isn't Diane anymore, not sure what the whole motel scene means
>Carrie is obviously Laura, who has been brainwashed
>Cooper is saddened to see the shitty life she has
>It feels like the person who Alice is talking to is actually Judy, which explains why we don't see "it" or even hear the answers, the whole thing feels really weird
>in the end, it's not Cooper but Judy who makes Laura snap out, which I guess doesn't indicate a good ending for both protagonists

From the moment BOB gets defeated and Coop's face starts to get superimposed over the footage it signaled that the S3 reality of the show is a fabrication, a dream.

Coop knows that SO he without pause exits the scene AND enters the lodge again where MIKE welcomes him with the magician's chant, which conveys to us and Coop that he is now a lodge spirit and can use the full range of abilities the lodge has to offer.

He goes to talk to Phillip and moves to a different part of the "dream". The dream reality is flexible and in flux and can be changed and rippled and so on. He does that but fails to snap Laura out of it. He basically needs for her to exit the dream as well since that solves his particular main task.

He fails at that since another major player (the Experiment) intervenes.

Then he goes back to the lodge to try again. We see him opening curtains with a commanding twirling motion of his hand, suggesting he already knows how to use the lodge magic.

But at this point things are a bit weird.

The two people you see driving at night are Richard and Linda. Richard and Linda drive to a hotel. Linda sees a vision of another version of herself standing by the hotel. This is Linda seeing a vision of Diane, not the other way around. Diane and Coop are trying to enter their world. Then Richard and Linda have sex. When Coop wakes up in a different hotel that is actually the real Cooper.

Sex scene kind of suggests some sex magic ritual since they're so cold and methodical about it, but even afterwards Coop doesn't seem to concerned about where Diane went, like she means nothing to him.

Coop from then on acts like he knows it's all a dream reality and doesn't particularly care about finesse and wants just to get the job done the most efficient way possible.

The end, again, suggests the Experiment trumps his powers and can alter reality faster than Coop can react and anticipate for it.

These issues are undefendable
>no set design, feels empty and lifeless
>no interesting ideas for storylines and generally bad writing
>relies on gimmicks only instead
>those are unoriginal or just bad, unfortunately ("fuck you, albert", glove, andy and lucy, coordinates, riddles, ...)
>bad acting (Bell, Lynch, Horse, Robertson, Dern, ...)
>dull characters (one-dimensional at best)
>storylines and characters are introduced for no purpose
>everything is supposed to weirdly connect and make sense
>shot in digital in a way that doesn't compensate for the technology's disadvantages (looks bad)
>roadhouse scenes (out of place, badly shot, the songs, the bands, the extras, ...)
>student-tier storytelling/editing (characters are shown walking up complete sets of stairs)
>stretched out needlessly, long takes have no particular effect
>obviously delusional and/or inexperienced fanbase perceiving it as particularly meaningful, complex or "deep"
>can't compare to the original series that doesn't have those problems (coherent/complex and beautiful sets, costumes and make-up/well shot/well acted/well written/magnificent multi-dimensional characters and character relations, music, storylines and gimmicks/creates a unique athmosphere as a result, changing the world of television forever whereas "the return" neither manages to do something established really good nor to invent something new)
>extended pitch black scenes because of a lack of a competent cinematographer
>audio issues with microphone static left unaddressed because of poor sound design
>extremely poor editing with magically disappearing extras and production staff accidentally walking into frame (Diner ending, Gordon's dream)
>somehow the best thing in tv history
>>

>From the moment BOB gets defeated and Coop's face starts to get superimposed over the footage it signaled that the S3 reality of the show is a fabrication, a dream.
The face appears when Cooper looks at Naido, not when they defeat BOB.
There must be some significance behind this.

This would explain why Jeffries has been in hiding and other take hosts while coop is is still trying to seemingly save everyone himself.

Also, for the people still confused about the year. If you were to stop reading this and go to Odessa, Texas right now and look at the sign this is exactly what it would look like. The next population census is in 2020.

Mrs. Tremond is also a lodge spirit. She has the power to override the contents and owner of a house just like her pseudonym, Mrs. Chalfont. The man she was talking to off-screen was her grandson, not some husband.

>Why was she saving them from Sarah Palmer? Sarah Palmer leaked through at the end. The Double R is intact.

Pic related is the moment we are told by Lynch directly that the "reality" of S3 we've seen thus far is a dream. In essence all of the "real world" of Twin Peaks is a dream and you awake from it by going to the lodge and becoming an inhabiting spirit there.

The overall dream is likely dreamt by the Fireman, who was shown to be floating in a passive, sleeping pose while doing his magic stuff.

The Experiment is a nightmare entity intruding upon that dream.

Audrey's situation in S3 is a microcosm of that.
She is existing in her own dream where some entity is providing her with what she needs and keeping her under lock and key, more or less. Once you become aware it's a dream it turns sinister.

Coop, after reaching Odessa, realizes that too. The dream is now friendly, its inhabitants are not worth his time and effort and he needs to simply complete the task to end it.

That's why he's very cautious, why he uses extreme violence against those rude fellas, why he doesn't care about the corpse and why he doesn't really waste time talking to not-Laura - who will wake up screaming at the end of episode.

None of it matters, it's all a fabrication. All he needs to do is snap her out of it and deliver her to the lodge.

What was up with Laura scream at the end?

I know a lot of people think Coop and Laura are trapped in a different reality, but Laura's scream at the end seemed to "turn off" everything.

My own theory is this is Laura's dream. When she says she saw Coop in a dream, that ending was actually a dream (nightmare) and after Laura screamed, she woke up and proceeded to die.

Bear with me here because it's hard to explain but what if the whole scenario in which Cooper met Laura in FWWM was actually a forgotten reality but Laura just perceived it as a dream? It would make sense as to why Laura said she saw Cooper in a dream.

Did the sheriff's department scene happen inside Cooper's dream? We see Coop shout for Gordon and vice versa, and then there's whooshing sounds and the screen fades to black. Similar to how it fades to back when Laura wakes up at the end of part 18. Just before it happened, the superimposed Cooper face said that "We live inside a dream".

Holy shit guys I got it.

Something (either the fireman or the mother) brought Cooper and laura in to OUR reality. As in real life reality. Hence why the owner of laura palmer's house is the real owner of the palmer house. Hence why the double r diner is still intact. Hence why there is no twin peaks sign. Hence why everything is played completely straight. No music. No dreamlike stuff (other than the ending but that is to imply that the lodge spirits are real).

The idea that the lodge spirits exist in reality is lynch telling us that our idea of reality is only a dream and also playing on the idea of unreality and reality merging through mediums such as film.

Cooper and Laura are fiction characters living in our real world. They exist because they have been dreamed up. They are as real as you or me.

Laura is alive in the prime dimension. That was her waking up from the dream, which is why everything - including Cooper - was consigned to oblivion the moment she woke up, just like a typical dream. The shout she heard was Sarah calling her downstairs to get breakfast, since she was now home, alive and well on the day she was once murdered.

Nearly everything has already been answered and all the general is now is the same people reposing the same pasta asking the same questions over and over even though they have already been answered. Extremely condensed answers follow;

>Cooper and Carrie Page are in 2017 (multiple confirmation from screenshots, such as gas prices)
>Carrie is a completely different person who has lived a completely different life
>Audrey is in a coma. Every Audrey scene takes place inside her own mind
>Annie was murdered by Dopplecoop after he raped Audrey and burned down Briggs office
>Sarah Palmer is possessed by Jow-Daeh, she always has been since she was a child
>The girl in episode eight is young Sarah Palmer
>The two people driving the car at night are Richard and Linda, not Dale and Diane
>When Linda sees the vision of Diane at the motel that is Diane and Coop starting to enter their world. After this Richard and Linda have sex, then Coop wakes up in the other hotel
>Jow-Daeh stabs the picture in fury because Cooper helped Laura escape her death
>Cooper travels to the lodge, then to the real world 1988, then back to the lodge to rescue the real Diane, then to the new real world reality rescuing Laura created
>Mike was never good and the lodge spirits have always been advancing their own plans involving Laura, not helping Cooper
>Carrie screams at the end because memories from Laura's reality are coming back to her

For expanded versions of these answers and more simply watch the show. It's all on the screen.

So by all rights it "should've" ended in the middle of ep17 when Glove Lad destroyed BOB, right? That was all that 'needed' to be done, and if it things had've been left there then Coop would been free from lodge, Diane saved and everyone else would be fine(ish). It would've been a happy ending.

But instead Coop spoiled it be being dumb and/or naive and thinking that he could save Laura from death too, and so he fucked reality and sealed his fate in doing so?

Is that the gist of it /tpg/? I am so confused.
>>

GOOLD?
>>
Everyone seems to have overlooked this part but how fucking genius was Lynch regarding the whole Laura and James scene in FWWM?

When Laura screamed when she saw Cooper was actually in the original movie. That's fucking scary to think that he had thought it out that far even since FWWM was being made. It was always something that puzzled me when Laura screamed and I just chalked it up to a BOB hallucination but the truth is so genius. We don't deserve Lynch.
>>
>>87322638

WRONG.

Nothing about the ending indicates that the call is waking her up in 1989 FWWM / E1 of TP S1. Nothing. It's just a memory trigger.

>>
>>87322327
Twin Peaks is a load of disjointed garbage, David Lynch has simply chucked any idea he could think of and mangled it up in an effort to make it appear mysterious when in reality it's simply a ruse for a lack of plot, that's why there's so many long drawn out scenes it's filler to last 18 episodes. Anyone trying to defend this is either completely hoodwinked by David Lynch or trying to pretend it's profound though in actuality projecting the pretentious sweet spot of trap bait /tv/ goes for.

this ending felt fake even before the timeline alterations started. Mulholland Drive was a wish fulfillment dream, so perhaps The Return was a dream, as well. a fantasy of cooper's as his mind remains in the black lodge, a dream where he awakens and fixes everything, even though evil has won and evil always will win.

If the only thing that can beat Judy is Laura, and Judy is in the house as Sarah Palmer (but stifled by the Tremonds / Chalfonts) then Cooper has set the final battle in motion. Judy cannot win. Plus they have Tremond/Chalfont backup.

The more I think about this season in toto, I think it was a sixteen-hour prologue to a one-hour episode and a one-hour epilogue, more or less. I feel its purpose was to show us that we are all trapped in a mindset rooted in 20th century narrative, and something more random and multi-track is closer to the mark. We know we've hit the coordinates when we begin to feel uncomfortable. When Cooper asks "What year is this?" I don't think he's asking what year he's inhabiting; rather, he's questioning our expectations of the narrative, our demands for clarity and a happy ending - even a satisfying reunion. Why did we want to go back to a murder scene? What did we want to undo? Or do? Were these characters not supposed to change? When Cooper's America suddenly consisted of the names of Ukrainian cities and foreign businesses, where going for breakfast can suddenly turn into an old West shootout, I think Lynch's purpose is plain - this IS the America we now I habit. He is showing us our world through THEY LIVE glasses, as it were. What Cooper may suddenly be inhabiting outside the Palmer house is a place we've not previously seen in this series - namely, reality.

Old show:
>quirky characters based on soap opera archetypes with a dark secret
>cooper uses charm, mysticism and wit to travel through the case and find clues, always fascinated with the beauty and simplicity of life in Twin Peaks
>focuses on the relationship between the inhabitants, and how there is a dark force under the facade of country life
>episodes consist of a mix of soap opera parody, slice of life, investigation and serialized thriller with very occasional interspersed mystical elements that seem unique to the town of Twin Peaks

New Show:
>gimmicky, one-note characters with no real basis or consistency, serving the role they are supposed to serve and showing no personal traits, and often times being portrayed by pretty ladies giving mediocre reads in lieu of good acting
>cooper uses boring, monotone, commanding voice to get people to do things instead of being likable or polite, and never shows any real emotions
>focuses on absolutely nothing, clumsily traveling from scene to scene and segment to segment, which often consists of silence or static shots that never go anywhere and don't add anything, with only a handful of episodes actually advancing the plot forward
>episodes consist of nothing but mysticism, silence, characters that pretend to know what is going on but never explain it or elaborate under any cirmustances, dream-like logic interspersed with awful, hacky dialogue or physical """comedy"""

If Carrie's scream at the end does indicate that it was all perceived as a dream of Laura's and she woke up at the sound of her mother calling her on Feb 24th 1989 does that mean the ending was positive in a bittersweet way?

If BOB was destroyed then presumably Leland wouldn't be raping her, the bad memories would just feel like a nightmare, and all the original TP characters would exist as they always had done (Pete going fishing, Josie in her room, etc).

It means Coop was sadly wiped from existence, but the ending was a net good, right?

I can't help but see the Return as just a fun ride. To me Twin Peaks will always be seasons 1 and 2 capped off by FWWM. It's been fun, but all the Frosty lore is just annoying. At least the Return ended in a spooky way, so that's alright. Dougie was fun.

No the judy shit is conventional and stupid.

the ultimate point of the finale isn't that Judy trapped Laura in some alternate dimension, it's that she couldn't be saved, her traumas cannot be erased and Cooper's efforts were nil. He went there looking for answers but realized there is none, in his efforts to try and save her, he only made things worse. You can't undo the past, Laura will always be the girl that got abused and raped, no amount of intervention is going to undo it.
>>
>>87323661
Her scream was the realization that her past will never leave her. That, in the end, she'll always be traumatized by her past. To me, it has less to do with any actual plot related shit, but just a meta reaction to the idea that she will never have closure no matter what.

But its not a dream in the literal sense. No one is having the dream. Are people this retarded? Its a dream in the sense that existence itself is a dream, a reality created by consciousness to house consciousness. The dreamer that dreams and lives inside the dream. Its so much more that one person, its existence as a whole. The dream and reality are inseparable, expect by death, or, now, contact with the lodge

What do you guys think the function of the 'kettles' are? The White Lodge seems to house many of them, maybe even manufacture them.

Jeffries's dialogue in Part 17 seems to suggest that it houses his physical embodiment (slippery in here). The way they light up when Dopplecoop is being transported to Twin Peaks makes it out like they're used as teleportation devices, or at least help power teleporting

If I wanted to watch Lynch being a hack by making weird shit just because its weird, rather than it leading up to anything of substance, I'd just watch his shit movies.

Both plotlines help you see reality. Yes, Shelly and Bobby got together and had a kid. Yes, here's Audrey just living her life as usual. But deep down, no, Bobby and Shelly had a kid, separated and she became a drug addict who got murdered by her boyfriend who also killed himself.

Audrey is still fucked from the bank explosion, you don't know how, but that's the way it is. This is how the future is, nothing stays the same or progresses in the way you expect it to. It's pretty kino frankly.

Seriously, guys. I'm new to TP, I was watching the new season and was having much fun untill episode 18 and I dont understand shit right now.

I did a kind of recap of the series, I know the whole MIKE x BOB shit, the lodges etc

From what I was getting, until eps 17, everything was fine because cooper decided to travel back in time and rescue laura palmer and make a new timeline where she is not dead and bob was defeated.

- Who was the doppel of Diane at the motel? Why she did leave him if she loved him so much?

- Who is richard and linda?

- Who is sarah palmer? A kind of god?

- Whats up with Fake cooper/bob? What he wanted with that coordinates? wasnt his objective to collect pain and suffering?

- Why Cooper gave a goodbye to his friends at the station? Couldnt he simply go back to his timeline alright?

- Who is the dead corpse at laura's house? He looked much of BOB there. His belly was nasty

- And who the fuck is Judy? In Season 3 he/she isnt directly showed, pointed or seen. Why people here is talking about her like she was the main villain at the series?

- Will be there a new season to close this questions?

Thanks

But none of that is Lynch's work, you fucking idiot. A plot is only one aspect of a film. Lynch is not interested in plot. He's interested in capturing deep feelings and themes regarding American life and culture. He uses very deliberate acting, visual style, tone, music all to create that. He uses awkward goofy moments in the context of frightening and terrifying imagery to convey the real feeling of moments like that. If you want a checklist of plot points or answer to mysterious feelings then you are watching the wrong show.

Sarah Palmer is a girl who had been selected by Judy to be her physical carrier. (Kind of like BOB, Judy's thrall possessing Leland and boop)

Boops objective was to return BOB to Judy so that he could be free himself (and maybe granted the power of a magician)

Dead corpse doesnt matter

Judy is the being in the void that finds our world after the nuclear explosion and begins exerting it's influence over the world ala Ancient Ones

>yfw Lynch is an IRL Lodge spirit and the ending of S2 and S3 are just traps to collect garmonbozia

LYNCH

GIVE ME BACK MY PAIN AND SORROW
>>

Why is it baseless? I've posted these same theories and at no point no one has proved me wrong that the ending is that Good will eventually triumph evil and as a result it doesn't matter when the series ends. Judy will eventually be banished from earth by Laura no matter how many times it takes Coop (now a magician) to continue taking her out of the false realities she is being thrown into
>>
>Gordon represents the creative force behind the show
>Dianne represents the audience
>When Cooper leaves them behind, he escapes the universe of Twin Peaks, and enters somewhere new
I don't know. Am I grasping?

pretty sure garmonbozia only comes from fear, not confusion
>>
>>87324664

Well, the whole richard/linda <> Cooper/diane switch is SO MUCH confusing, fuck man.

So, that cooper is richard? if yes, where is cooper and diane?

Not the guy you're replying to but that's not really a good comeback, dude. Unless it was irony you were going for.

That's not how proof works.

This guy had it all. Won a Jitterbug contest at an early age. Pursued an acting career in Hollywood. Terrible thing to see him masturbate himself into blowing his depressed brains out.

Rewatch the last two episodes. Everything suggests that Judy who had been using Sarah Palmer as her physical carrier all along had realised she was going to be defeated and eventually banished.
>>
>>87324664
>literally who knows. it seems he just wanted to preserve his existence, and had to kill real coop to do that. what significance the coordinates had to him im not sure

The coordinates were part of the Fireman's plan. They led to the portal that took badcoop to the theater so that the Fireman could drop him off at the Sheriffs station in order to meet his death at Cooper's hands

Cooper stayed in the Richard timeline, to bring Laura out

Diane stayed behind in the original time, because it was Linda that left a note for Richard in Coop's timeline
>>
>>87322558

I agree Mark Frost is redditcore.
>>
Why was My Prayer playing as Diane/Linda and Cooper/Richard were having sex? It was the same song that the girl and various others were listening to in ep8. Any significance?

The good spirits from the lodge sent Cooper on a quest to save Laura Palmer, whose benevolent spirit was created to neutralize all the evil that was born from Judy.
Phillip Jeffries sends Cooper back in time and prevents her from getting killed, and tries to take her to the present day so that she can face Judy (who is inhabiting Sarah Palmer's body).
Judy/Sarah becomes aware of this, probably through the Jumping Man, and starts doing voodoo magic with Laura's picture and pulls her from reality, imprisoning her in another dreamworld.
Cooper is aware of this, though, and the Fireman informed him of a way to get into that dreamworld. 430 is the location, and to get there he and Diane have to become Richard and Linda (which are their incarnations in that world).
Cooper does so and goes to find Laura, who is now known as Carrie Page and remembers nothing. They go to Palmers's house in Twin Peaks, but instead of Sarah they find Alice Tremond, a black lodge spirit with the ability of replacing the inhabitants of a house (also known as Ms. Chalfont, as seen in FWWM).
In the end Laura remembers that this is not real, so she wakes up and the reality gets shattered. What happens beyond that is unkown to us.

>Cooper stayed in the Richard timeline, to bring Laura out

Diane stayed behind in the original time, because it was Linda that left a note for Richard in Coop's timeline

Why did she do that so suddenly? it doesnt make any sense. She loved him and wanted to stay by his side

What about Coop being confused about the year tho

the idea is the girl in episode 8 is Sarah. In the bar scene where Sarah opens her face, she has a long nose that looks like the jumping man and also the frogmoth. Also it shows a white hand with a black (corrupted) spiritual finger. She has woodsmen in her house fucking things up, she's a literal mother, she stabs the picture of Laura when it turns out she didn't die, she talks almost as if she is possessed in the grocery store, and it's possible she was the one making calls pretending to be Jefferies.
>>
what's with the number 6 pole? what's with the owl cave symbol being turned into an 8? and why is the ending at the sheriff station the "unofficial" version, according to jeffries?
>>
>>87325582
Because it ain't real
>>
>>87325262
Because it was Linda that left him
Linda led a different life than Diane

they went to the motel in silence because their relation ship was over at that point
>>
>>87325428
He has done some time travelling before and suspects he might have been sent to the wrong time, long after Sarah stopped living in that house. I don't think it has much more meaning aside from that. He's just confused.
>>
>>87325582
I always figured the numbers represented entrances to the other world.
>>
>>87325651
yes, i got that. What i Dont understand is why diane left if she wanted to stay at coopers side

I was literally coming to that conclusion when you just posted that. Yes, this is also reflected in Part 3 where "Portal 3" leads to Booper and "Portal 15" leads to Dougie.
>>
>>87325720
Diane was needed for the sex ritual. Once they got there "things were different" so Diane/Linda didn't love Cooper/Richard. Notice how Cooper has also changed when he becomes Richard.

I remember a bunch of numbers being displayed prominently throughout FWWM, and also I think there was a number displayed on the coffee cups in the scene with the glass box.
