is that dopplecoop's hair? or bob's?

Coop's inability to save Laura is symbolic of Lynch's inability to ever give her character the beautiful story he feels she deserves. It all started with her death and torment and from that moment Lynch knew that whatever he would do to her story, it was going to end with her torment. Even if he undoes her dead, he can't escape the sadness that is inherent to Laura.

It's such a beautiful and sad love story

Did Coop lose his quirkiness when Dougie 2 was created, or did he gain Doppelcoop's seriousness when he was destroyed?

This is probably the most graspable conclusion, but it still doesn't fix that BOB is still possessing Leland at that point in time, and Laura will simply wake back up to a life of psyche-warping paternal rape.

What doesn't help this explanation is that Laura was taken from Coop's hand in the woods after changing her fate. There's still some game being played by other entities, I suppose.

yeah, that's the mainstream interpretation, but i believe that philip gerard has always been armless (well, after his accident)

he plays the cards in the convenience store meeting on FWWM missing scenes, he's always in the lodge

the reason why al strobel was overused this season was because Michael J Anderson didn't return imo

Well you know, it was interesting. All the shit that people came up with before the finale. That tulpas would invade twin peaks and kill everyone, that there would be a battle against the experiment of some sorts, that twin peaks would be nuked, black holes, it all happening in audrey's head, some resolution to the weird scenes that didn't seem so right (like the implication that time was fucked in twin peaks). Let's be honest, that was a good trick. Up until right before the finale, there were a lot of endings. Many different ones. Same thing for the unresolved mystery that it is now.

It's very interesting, but people act like it's a bad thing. No, not at all. Being creative is a good thing.

The ending is that Lynch is an overrated hack who had a couple good movies but is just a pretentious arthouse snob on the whole.
He had way too much creative freedom with season 3, and the end result was a thousand side characters that no one in their right mind should give a shit about, minimal to almost no screen time for recurring characters, an excuse to show off Lynch's playlist with his SNL-tier musical guests, and the most painfully boring, droning scenes that add nothing but frustration.

Cue all the artfags telling me I've been lynched while they blindly defend him and bask in the scent of their own farts.

To be clear I enjoyed the show very much. One of my favorite things about it is that it seems to conjure up such strange emotions. After the ending I feel a "sinking" feeling for Coop and Laura's fates. It's so strange, powerful, but amazing how a show can do this when not many others can reach this level. Thoughts?

>>87309117
>the reason why al strobel was overused this season was because Michael J Anderson didn't return imo

Maybe, but he also actively helped Cooper from the Red Room so that he would wake up and track down DoppelCoop.

The arm in its original form (played by MJA) wasn't definitively allied with anyone; he mostly just wanted his garmonbozia. The evolution of the arm seems to have shifted more to MIKE's side, giving Cooper the clues he needs.
>>
so why are people saying coop ruined everything? he still saved laura, right?
>>
>>87309094
>This is probably the most graspable conclusion, but it still doesn't fix that BOB is still possessing Leland at that point in time, and Laura will simply wake back up to a life of psyche-warping paternal rape.
Actually, I think that makes a lot of sense. Coop wanted to save her from death so badly he didn't even consider the fact that leland would continue doing the dirty, even if Bob was punched out of existence by one punch lad. FWWM complicates the question of whether leland was entirely innocent, and Laura screaming at the very end is her confronting the fact that she has to wake up from her dream alter ego and face her terrifying, abusive father.

This is my interpretation as well, but then it's also difficult to discern whether Laura has really been the "dreamer" this whole time, that there's the possibility that the events of Twin Peaks are at least partially Laura dreaming that her miserable life will at the very least affect dozens of people, that someone out there could actually care about her and her situation.

It was because the heart of Twin Peaks as a story has always been Laura's abuse and suffering. and while you can try to make some meaning from it (by solving the murder, or turning it into garmanbozia, or going back in time to divert it) it's always going to haunt the show/reality, just as the Palmer house has always been haunted.

Coop travels back in time to rescue Laura, sending her to another dimension before her murder. Coop then goes to the Black Lodge to free Diane. Coop and Diane travel to the dimension where Laura is. The new dimension is so completely different from the original dimension than Diane is no longer Diane and the Twin Peaks murder never happened.

Basically, Coop traveled to a time and place where none of the events of the series ever transpired.

The show was about the past and about trying to change it/recreate it/or ending up repeating it.
>Cooper couldn't change the past and just like Annie and Caroline he couldn't save Laura and was consumed by the mystery, essentially repeating his past actions
>Dougie (used alongside the fact that the show was a return of a long gone series, in a time where there's tons of reboots and revivals) is just a cartoonish parody of Cooper, mindlessly repeating what other people say and spouting one liners, and no matter what danger he gets in he always comes out on top
>Twin Peaks (both the series and the town) is no longer the idyllic borderline parody of small town USA with dark things underneath the surface, the surface is gone and it all feels "wrong".

You can't recreate or undo the past, and in trying, you'll just repeat your past mistakes. Annie was a symbolic redemption for Cooper and he fucked up. This time around Cooper threw out his storybook ending to try and redeem himself with Laura, and just fucked up again.

Laura's just bait at this point, I think. There's something about her that Judy needs in order to simply exist (clearly not just her death or Carrie's 'reality' wouldn't be so different), otherwise why would Judy stop Cooper in 1989?
>>
Judy lives inside Sarah Palmer but Judy is weakened for some reason. She needs to unite with BOB. Judy's rage when Laura is saved from BOB by time-travelling Cooper rips Laura away into a different world. Cooper has to go find her and bring her to Judy (only Laura can stop Judy). Cooper and Diane have to use Black Lodge sex magick which sacrifices Diane. She becomes Linda in the dream and Cooper replaces Richard, but does not become him. Coop and Carrie have to escape the dream and get to Sarah somehow.

That was the last time we saw any of them. All the favorite old characters gathered in one place, suddenly just torn away from Cooper and the viewers, leaving just this wasteland in the finale. i think coop is richard, and the moment coop/diane made that transition at the motel, it was just like the shift from betty to diane in mulholland drive. coop/richard is now in the 'real' world, things aren't weird and over the top like the twin peaks world, even richard himself isn't as exaggerated as the cooper he dreamt he was.

I really, truly believe one of three things. There will be a season 4, Lynch felt rushed and overwhelmed and tried to stick to many things together, or Lynch just did not care and wanted to experiment and have fun with it.

Yes. My issue with it is that it took fucking 25 years for him to get to that point, and only after Nadine was the one to end it. When you give it that context, Big Ed is a spineless beta. There will be no more Twin Peaks ever. This was it. Fans hate it, Lynch doesn't want it, and Frost's book has the word "Final" in the title.

This. The best part of Twin Peaks was always the mystery. Lynch/Frost originally never wanted to solve the Laura Palmer murder, they were forced by ABC. And what happened when the mystery was revealed? There was nothing left for the show to do and it got shit. The ending of 18 was them doing what they originally wanted to do, we will never find out what Laura whispered, there will never be anymore peaks. This is it.

Ah, I see the confusion
Me and the other anons thought you were saying that nobody in the whole series has seen Bob's face even though we clearly see Laura react to it in FWWM, the artist depiction of what Sarah sees and Ronette Pulaski reacting to the same drawing later in season 2
But yeah I think you're right about the orb
But then why would the orb say "catch you with my death bag" if it didn't have a face
Ultimately if prefer if it was just like any other spirit created by Judy, possesses a guy called Robert and his family line are all people possessed by the spirit of Robert, with the guy who possessed Leland with that spirit being named Robertson
>>
Here we go, my take.

Judy aka Demon God gets into our realm during atomic blast.
Laura Palmer is dimensional white lodge Jesus type creation to save us.
Laura gets trapped in endless rape and abuse to bring her down by Black Lodge spirits and Judy's underlings.
Laura dies but not really as she is white lodge creation.
Laura DREAMS Dale Cooper saving her.
Dale Cooper becomes real at the end aka Richard.
Cooper at the very end starts to realize this.
Dream collapses and Laura wakes up.

Laura survives her death but nothing really changed as Judy still exists.

Basically FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE....

>You're an idiot with a very incomplete understanding of true Christianity.
It's important to face and explore the negative aspect of nature and your soul. To ask "why this war at the heart of nature." To question why plants grow from darkness and into the light, why the beautiful robin can exists by feeding upon the bugs that feast on decay.

You're an idiot. You do realise you own argument justifies watching child porn, right? Look, I don't entirely hate Twin Peaks. Sure, there's a lot of unnecessary stuff in it I don't like that didn't need to be there, but I'm mainly concerned with resolutions. It's all fine and well to "explore the negative aspect of nature and your soul", but if you end your piece of art without attempting to reconcile the darkness that has been discovered; furthermore, if you end your piece of art knowing that it will alienate a large portion of those who see it then it is bad art. What is the ordinary person supposed to take from Twin Peaks? I mean the ordinary person. Not those who go to Youtube and listen to people dissect every frame. That's not what good art is about.

and yes, i did see that somewhere, but it made perfect sense, his face goes from grinning when the coffee is solid to shocked when it starts to change

During the scene in the past, when Laura is talking with James, she sees Coop hiding in the forest away from them and screams. This happens even in the original version of the scene, implying that Coop was there even in the original timeline where Laura gets killed. So is the original Twin Peaks timeline a result of Coop trying to go back and save Laura but failing somehow?
>>
>>87310267
i hated the ending because it was boring and empty. the rest of twin peaks was great.
>>
2 ideas explaining the ending:

>Coop did actually prevent Laura's death. Him then taking her to Twin Peaks is inside of her dream in 1989 (what year is this?) and at the end, Sarah calling her name in 1989 makes her scream and wake up from the dream. Happy ending for Laura and the town, bad/unclear ending for Cooper.

>Cooper saved Laura, but her family is basically nonexistent now in Twin Peaks for some reason. It would seem most people in Twin Peaks had a happy ending (The RR Diner still exists, for example) and at the end Laura realizes who she is. She and Dale are now trapped in an alternate timeline where neither of them never really exist as they remember themselves (Cooper is Richard, Laura is Carrie.) Bleak for Coop and Laura but ok for most of the Twin Peaks cast.
>>
Coop saved Laura.
The future just got jankier and got fixed.

Oh shit I hadn't considered this
Maybe it has something to do with that world being the dream
Maybe when he crossed over with Diane, he was in another dream world and ultimately finds out that within that reality, everything is still a horrible mess and Carrie returns to dreaming, with Cooper returning as the dreamer within the dream, with the knowledge that there is no saving Laura
>>
Not sure why people think cooper altered the original timeline. He didnt. He just got stuck in some alt universe hell like place. Probabaly the judy didnt want him to fix shit. Now he is stuck in alt peaks forever.

To the people who might have been confused by the end or think there's plot inconsistencies, while I won't go into any theories specifically or deny any criticism you might have. I do think it's important to understand several parallels drawn by David Lynch and where he took inspiration from to truly get what he was going for (or was trying to go for). I'm not going to explain any theory in and of itself, but I will try to lay a general line of thinking out on the table.

There's a clear inspiration taken by Lynch from a certain genre of anime, in particular the likes of Angel Beats (2010) and Charlotte (2015). Both heavily criticized for doing the exact same thing Twin Peaks did but it really does all fit together well if you're of an high IQ enough to understand and appreciate this type of story. I know this might come of as unbelievable but there's many similarities here and if you want a less complex version that might help you understand the Season 3 Finale of Twin Peaks I think it's best to have seen the aforementioned shows.
They might be a little rough, and things might seem odd. But that's exactly why it compares so well to Twin Peaks. You can see, going from the first to the second show the time that has passed in real time reflects within the show itself. AB (?) C (?). It's a rollercoaster ride much like Twin Peaks was (is? season 4?) and will likely help you answer many of the problems you might have had with the ending of the third season of Twin Peaks. They're diamonds in the rough. They're the crude oil running through the veins of our inner sanctum. But at the end of the day you can better understand Lynch as a person, a creator, and, most importantly, a human. What his eyes saw and what he tried to reflect. Through the works so brilliantly parodied by him that go beyond a subconscious mind.

If you've got 10 hours of free time, and want to understand Twin Peaks on a much higher plane, consume these 2 shows. Thank me later.

Because the artist shouldn't make art solely for himself. Art is made to be shared. Art should serve a purpose above idle pleasure. Additionally, if you consider the money that is poured into film and television, then it's even more of an imperative that the end result should be something that is serviceable to feelings of its recipient.
