the main problem wit the battle of the five armies is that there wasn't 5 armies that

1) Source material is most certainly not enough for three movies. Jew execs wanted maximum profits so they forced a trilogy.
2) Pre-production was nowhere near as big as in LOTR

So they had to come up with hours worth of shit while being rushed and I'm reasonably sure the studio demanded certain elements into the movies to please as many target audiences as possible. It was a farce even before they started actually filming it.

The Hobbit isn't an epic about an impeding war and a great evil, it's about a Hobbit who goes on an adventure. The studio forced Jackson into making it a clone of LOTR and the Hobbit films suffered because of it. They had to add irrelevant side-plots to pad out the film over three hours.
