Is there a character that could even possibly EVEN TOUCH Euron Greyjoy? Let alone defeat him. And I’m not talking about Captain of the Silence Euron Greyjoy. I’m not talking about Lord Reaper Euron either. I'm talking about King of the Islands and the North Euron Greyjoy, with the driftwood crown and the Dragonbinder, commanding the Iron Fleet, equipped with Valyrian steel armor and harnessing the power of captured warlocks from the House of the Undying.

>And through the smoke another wedge of armored riders came, on barded horses. Floating above them were the largest banners yet, royal standards as big as sheets; a yellow one with long pointed tongues that showed a flaming heart, and another like a sheet of beaten gold, with a black stag prancing and rippling in the wind.

>Robert, Jon thought for one mad moment, remembering poor Owen, but when the trumpets blew again and the knights charged, the name they cried was “Stannis! Stannis! STANNIS!”

Why couldn't they do this moment, one of the best in the books, right?

Like they can sell the character short and fuck up the rest of his arc, but this battle was one of the best in the series.

Why couldn't we get it anywhere near as written? Or with the cheering in the end?

>Tywin seems a hard man to you, but he's no harder than he's had to be. Our own father was gentle and amiable, but so weak his bannermen mocked him in their cups. Some saw fit to defy him openly. Other lords borrowed his gold and never troubled to repay it. At court they japed of toothless lions. Even his own mistress stole from him. A woman scarcely one step above a whore, and she helped herself to my mother's jewels! It fell to Tywin to restore House Lannister to its proper place. Just as it fell to him to rule this realm, when he was no more than twenty. He bore that heavy burden for twenty years and all it earned him was a mad king's envy. Instead of the honor he deserved, he was made to suffer slights beyond count, yet he gave the Seven Kingdoms peace, plenty and justice

Eh Stannis theme is GOAT in my opinion.

Weird thing is, they initially may have intended it for all Baratheons save for Bobby B and his "kids". Watch some of the Renly scenes, after he says he'll take King's Landing, the Stannis theme plays for Renly.

In some official orchestra events, they even outright used the Warrior of Light for ALL of House Baratheon.

Well, apart from being family-tied to House Stark (fairly tightly, it would appear - if Edmure died it'd go to the Starks), the Riverlands are basically a kingdom-sized province without the natural borders of a province, or most crucially, the stable legal authority to stand on their own.

Nah, that's why it says "for one mad moment." What it is is that he's remembering one Night's Watch guy, who was a bit of a simpleton, who kept saying King Robert would come and save them.

Everyone thought Owen was crazy, but in the heat of the moment during the attack Jon remembered Owen's words.

That's what was so good about GRRM's twists.
When D&D try to do their own "twist", it turns out like Littlefinger's death: totally predictable, horribly clunky in execution, and not very logically explicable. Or else it's like the Jon Targaryen "reveal", a classic, full-on Deus Ex Machina.

>>87275587
>Right, which is why by all logic they should have stood with the crown.
Not how politics works. The crown were out to screw you over, and the die was already cast by the people above you. And if you're talking about long-term strategic alliance planning, they would have thought they *were* allying with the crown, in that they were allying with Robert's best friend, and the other main kingdom who installed him on the throne.

A major complaint about the two most recent books is too much backstory, so if that's right up your alley you'll have a good time. They're all very good books, but the fifth book, A Dance With Dragons, has some painfully boring Danaerys scenes.

I really don't. If GRRM wrote just one page per day since Dance was released, he could have written two full books right now. He he hasn't even written one. I think he's out of ideas. We'll get Winds in 2020, and he will die before we get Dream. The show is the only ending we're ever going to get.

Sorry, there's confusion here.
By "side Lannister" I meant "a generation of Lannisters that isn't far enough removed to be a cadet branch". Lannisters of Lannisport go back as far into the "mist of history" as the likes of the Karstarks, enough to be their own thing, just less powerful obviously.
It's a bit like how if Benjen wasn't an undead ranger, he'd not be a "cadet branch" all by himself until the children generation had children.

You're pretty naive son. So there is one thing I don't get.

What does Dany think will happen after she wins?

The Dothraki are literal raping, pillaging savages who stand for everything she is against.

Once she has conquered Westeros they will have nothing to do and they will regress to their base impulses of raping and pillaging.

Will she send them back to Essos?

She didn't really think her plan through IMO.

The sad thing is that GURM unironically did something similar.

>"Eat your heart out, Rowling," Martin wrote. "Maybe you have billions of dollars and my Hugo, but you don't have readers like these."

>In 2012, Martin, author of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series (adapted for HBO as "Game of Thrones"), elaborated on his feelings. "I wish I have beaten her, what can I say! I would have liked to win that award and I don't think Rowling cares much about it," Martin told the blog Adria's News. "And she didn't send anyone to accept the award, which is certainly annoying."

>His grudge may have led him to poke fun at "Harry Potter" within the pages of the next book in his series, "A Feast for Crows," The Wire reported. In a passage of that book, Martin described a fight between the female knight Brienne of Tarth and two male knights. "She had ridden over Harry Sawyer and broken Robin Potter's helm, giving him a nasty scar," Martin wrote.

There are two ways of looking at this:

1. Dragonfire is magic, which makes sense since nothing about dragons make any biological sense (no genders, how the fuck can something that big fly, where does the fire come from, how do they obey Targaryens, and so on).

2. The wall isn't actually magic, it's just a giant fucking ice wall. The only magical barriers are in those doorways. The Others just needed to knock down the wall somehow.

I think #1 makes sense, because if the answer was #2 then White Walkers would have just climbed the walls.

Most certainly. That Marxist faggot will rewrite himself into the grave. I can imagine him now, in his cheeto stained tightie whities, socks three times too small, and golfing cap slavering and roaring at the shifting polls by light of a 2 AM tv screen. The piles of The New Yorker that support the stress he eases down onto his lazy boy tremble and shift as the flemcoated, throaty gurgling fills his mansion from the back of his necks.

Well who can blame him when he's being unfairly compared to the author of the dullest series in the history of book series which was adapted into the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

>How is white defined for these surveys.
Unfortunately it's all self-reported, so I admit there almost certainly a number of light-skinned non-white hispanics who incorrectly mark themselves down as white. However, it's defined as someone of European or North African descent. There's also an implication that you need to be light-skinned.

>inb4 somebody from France starts laughing at the North African part

North Africans are so absurdly rare here that they're statistically insignificant. Not even one half of one percent. And they all identify as Arab. Same thing happens with our Arab population (again, tiny minority), they could identify as white as well as Arab if they chose, but they choose to only identify as Arab.

But enough /int/ and /pol/ shit, this is /tv/ ffs

Tbf at this point in the books, Littlefinger already controls the Vale, the Riverlands, and Sansa, who's the key to the North. The Vale and its armies are completely undamaged, too, and he's open to be married so he's got more options there. He's doing really well for himself.

Im finding it hard to find a place to start honestly. Its the entire thing and id just be sitting here greentexting entire lists of points and plots. Have you ever done any research on GRRM and his entire works? The man reuses the same literary tools, character arcs, and story beats constantly. Nearly every character in ASOIF was intended to build up a view of how objectively bad and never justifiable war and supreme rule is, how people get along better when left without a governing body, how woman are oppressed by systemic bigotry, and how masculinity is harmful to the human mind

In all seriousness, how are people not more suspicious about the Maesters? A secretive order, and yet every single castle has one? Only they can send ravens properly? Only they can tell when winter is coming? Only they can heal? What the fuck is going on in Westeros?

Why has Oldtown, home of the maesters, stayed prosperous and unharmed while the rest of Westeros has burned for centuries?

they did, but northerners had actual boats which wreck rafts easily, so there's no reliable way to get a large number of people across by sea

Your Jew thing is actually a good analogy. You'll find people everywhere claiming that Jews did 9/11. How many people actually believe that Jews did 9/11? Not many. It's dismissed as a silly conspiracy theory by the educated. Now, I don't think Jews did 9/11. But I think the principle with the theory is similar. Who educates the noblemen? The maesters.

You are probably under the false assumption that our real world is 2000 years old due to Gregorian calendar, but that calendar is very misleading. We should have stopped using it by now.
When jesus came aboard the ship, we were long past metal age, there were modern tier metropolitan cities with thousands of inhabitants, engineering, mathematics and astronomy were highly developed and we also head the world's greatest empire in it's prime. From first Paleolithic humans, that was a huge fucking step.
To put it roughly approximated, our current civilized world is 12 thousand years, counting from the earliest archeological founding of a complex building ever discovered, a temple in east Asia. I'll link you a nice video on the matter.
To summarize it, westeros is probably a thousand years away from our current world. Unfortunately all you think about is weaponry, but their universe lacks gunpowder
