WHEN THE FUCK ARE WE GOING TO GET YAKUZAKINO?!

Because to tell the full story would be to dismantle the entire japanese government. The Yakuza are embedded so deeply into japanese politics that it would be the end of their current regime its so bad.

It's not the same. I want a serious show, just imagine a show with the same caliber as The Sopranos but detailing various Yakuza clans in the 80s along with other interesting things like the vibrant biker scene that existed in Japan at the time.

Early Yakuza would be interesting too. All of the fascism/samurai/CIA/war criminal stuff.

They could do like 5 seasons, with some characters carrying over at different ages.

Pre WW2 Samurai/Fascists/War Criminals

60's CIA asset right wing criminals

70's political corruption criminals

80's big business/banking criminals

90's decline into loan sharking and drug smuggling and pornography and illegal immigrants.

The Yakuza has been declining for years now. Every movie, show, or video game about them and their influence is an extreme exaggeration for dramatic reasons. Japan is also known for having a tiny crime rate, which clearly reflects how unimportant their criminal organizations are.

You're just going to watch some balding middle-aged Jap file documents and deal with gossipy bullshit for an hour an episode.
>>
>>87248647
>You're just going to watch some balding middle-aged Jap file documents and deal with gossipy bullshit for an hour an episode.
Sound comfy
>>
yakuza seems to be very boring actually. When was the last time you heard them massacring each other in a gangland strike? Never, because even japanese criminals are boring and timid.

You never hear them bringing illegal whores in country, you never hear them having a huge cannabis growing operation (japan doesn't even have any drugs except stimulants) You never hear them having huge number of firearms

Do they even have parties? I doubt it, they seem more like a corrupt white collar worker than anything else. Their headquarters is probably just regular japanese office and their typical crime is some kind of yawn-inducing racket or tax fraud
>>
>>87248700
>You never hear them bringing illegal whores in country, you never hear them having a huge cannabis growing operation (japan doesn't even have any drugs except stimulants) You never hear them having huge number of firearms

There are dispensaries in California controlled by the Yakuza. They are also involved in sex trafficking in various states throughout the USA.

It's notable, but it's hard to make into a compelling TV show. People speak about the Yakuza with awe, because they own office buildings and do business with contracts. But they don't seem to realize, contracts just aren't that interesting. The inner workings of an office aren't fun either, even if that office is ultimately a part of a crime network.

Compared to Narcos, where cartels were literally about to overthrow entire nations, and would massacre people in the street both in Colombia and the US, it would be dull.

>>87248891

The Yakuza are far more powerful than the Narco's, in as much as they actually controlled Japan and Japan was a first world, powerful nation, not an irrelevant South American dump.

But I mentioned it above - I picked up a book on their history and practically fell asleep every night trying to read it because it was 99% political and business corruption.

>>
>>87249258
Unlike white/black/latin gangsters the Yakuza aren't very into stuff like burglary, hijackings, armed robbery, street corner dealing, etc. I mean they may accept tribute from young punks/delinquents as long as they don't cause a social fuss or do anything idiotic. But this is rare and usually between low level gangsters and whoever.

Drug dealing is typically frowned upon and heavily regulated (do not to sell to Yamato people or children). Human trafficking and sex slavery is HUGE with the yakuza, you can't make it in the sex industry without some degree of connections. Tricking poor countrygirls from China/SEA/East Europe mostly into coming to Japan for jobs and then destroying their identification/breaking their phone/and getting them busy sucking random dicks/stripping for cash.

Extortion is on a bigger scale. Italians would bully the local shop owner into giving a cut of their revenue for "protection". In Japan the yakuza will sit down at stockholder meetings and terrify businessmen into making decisions that benefit the yakuza. They're in bed with most of the banks and real estate developers as well.
>>
>>87249305
The Yakuza didn't control Japan. They had some level of political and corporate influence, sure, but 'control'? I'm skeptical.

The Narcos became internationally known due to how far reaching their industry was. The US practically declared war on them, an event which we're still feeling the impact of. The Mexican Drug War is in the same league as conflicts going on in the Middle East, at least in terms of body count. By comparison, no one has ever given a shit about the Yakuza on the same scale.

I guess they only go for foreigners though, cause I thought it was pretty weird how they would go around selling sexual services in broad daylight (even though it was at night).

>True Detective-styled story of two detectives who attempt to solve murders but are literally unable to act upon any of their evidence because of how deeply rooted the crimes are in Yakuza leading to them slowly getting disillusioned with their lives and Japanese society
>>
>>87248700
>Do they even have parties?
Yes but only in some factions (notably Tadamasa Goto's one), and drugs are almost always involved.

>>87249601
Also Yamaguchi-gumi and Inagawa-kai (prominent yakuza groups) are also in bed with most of the Japanese live-action mainstream entertainment industry.
>>
Yakuza are the cucks of the organized crime world. The only reason they continue to operate is because Japanese people are even bigger cucks who tolerate everything.

Nintendo is heavily involved with the Yakuza I heard

Except for all the bad shit they occasionally do, they sometimes do a good deed, unlike most criminal organizations. They were the first on the scene gir the tsunami relief. Granted it's probably just a cover and to seem legitimate, but still.

>It was a suicide.

When people post suicide stats and see Japan high on the list, people automatically assume it's because of how hard they're worked. What these people don't realize is that the overwhelming majority of murders are counted as suicides because the police can't find a murderer or don't bother looking for one. Most murders are Yakuza related and the police don't look into them.

One of my favorites. The 2nd Wolverine movie really made me want to see Hugh Jackman do something like this without all the superhero shit.

The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan controls all of the Japanese corporate media and the yakuza is completely intertwined with the LDP.

I'd say let Netflix co-produce it Japan, but Japan can't make good entirely straight TV drama, it always turns into either a sentimental melodrama or regresses into a slapstick comedy.

the yakuza do actually traffic in uncensored pornography. remmeber if it was legal then their profits would decrease as it would be available for free. also it is shot unceonsored which they go on and sell in the black market for $$$

It's the extreme lengths they go to to keep control that makes them interesting, yes

This. The police are paid off and do constant raids on eromanga artists, which the Yakuza have no stake in. An artist drew his censor lines too light and got sentenced 15 years while underage schoolgirls prostitute themselves and Yakuza kidnap women and rape them on camera.

I am loving this thread. I would reckon that most Samurai classics are technically Yakuza films, undoubtedly Zatoichi is a Yakuza series and it's an all time favorite, going through the Criterion boxset is a dream and I'm looking forward to watching Kitano's take on it.
