>Cloning is not illegal.
It's not expressly stated in Up the Long Ladder but it's implied on more than one occasion.
The colonists are essentially asking to be saved.
And I did not mix up genetics and cloning, I simply attached a pick of Julian with his parents and did not imply anything.
No one has imagined anything but it's clearly something looked down upon in the Federation.

Last thread you said that cloning was "expressly forbidden by the Federation". Not only did you imagine it, but you're a filthy backpedaler too.
>>
>>87244275
>against Starfleet/The Federation's ideals
Those ideals didn't exist yet. The Federation didn't exist yet. So this portion of your post is irrelevant. Moving on, Federation captains like Kirk and Picard always ended up ignoring those ideals and saving the doomed people anyway. It's better to have living people and bent ideals than to have dead people and rigid ideals. The other shows knew better. Enterprise was just trying to be different but failing to be good.
>>
>>87244293
No, I didn't imagine anything but I do have far more of a life than you.

http://www.chakoteya.net/NextGen/144.htm
No results for "illegal". No results for "crime". No results for "forbidden". Nothing implying it. You imagined the whole thing.

Last thread you said it was expressly forbidden. This thread you're saying it's not expressly stated. The problem isn't that I have microscopic goal posts. The problem is that your own posts don't agree with each other. Instead of trying to fight it, why not just acknowledge that you were wrong about something? It's not the end of the world, you're not a special snowflake who can never be wrong about anything. Afterwards we can all move on with our lives. Even me, although I have no life at all, or certainly much less of a life than you.

Murder is never legitimate. And how was it necessary, Tuvix easily filled in for both of them and its not like Neelix was important to begin with anyway. Also, the episode makes it very clear that the only reason they kill him is because they miss their friends

Keeping Tuvix was murdering Neelix and Tuvix. The argument that Tuvix was already there is irrelevant because they had the technology to return the other two.

And you're missing the big picture. Tuvix refused to give his life to save two comrades. Both Tuvok and Meelix demonstrated multiple times that they would lay down their lives to save another if necessary. Since Tuvix refused, he is less honorable and less trustworthy than the other two - he had their knowledge and skills, but he couldn't be depended on in the crisis they were facing.

He had no place on Voyager, no right to take two lives to keep his own. He was a coward. His death was necessary and proportionate.

It's for fun, and my original post was clearly hyperbole, but I do agree I was wrong. It's your fucking attitude about a fictional show. The entire show is make believe. If you had just said this in the beginning then this thread-ruining discussion wouldn't exist. It was your decision to turn this into an argument.

Humans held their beliefs about genetic modification, and Archer realized what interfering with civilizations could lead to. He mentions how humans will need to develop general rules of contact and interference. Essentially, it was Phlox and the Denobulans who were precursors to this aspect of the Prime Directive.

It was not murdering Neelix and Tuvok since they were already dead. Think of it this way: Two of your friends are dead but you can revive them if you sacrifice an innocent bystander. Doing so would be murder.

So now its ok to kill someone because they are afraid to die? Also, its a big difference to give your life for people youve known for years and learn to love vs sacrificing yourself for two people you never even met. And could you really say you would do the same? And he was shown to be highly competent and able to fulfill important tasks. And as far as honor guys, the rest of the crew dont have much apparently, considering they just stood by while tuvix was murdered, maybe sacrifice them too.

Again, Tuvix didnt take anyones life. 2 people died in an accident and through that accident a new being emerged, thats it.

If the other person is right-- but they have the wrong attitude-- then it's our duty to refuse to give them the satisfaction of receiving acknowledgement that they're right.

Please allow me to redhypospray you on bio-neural gel packs, gentlsirs and m'ladies and J'naiifus and slugs of /trek/.

Feeling the difference now isn't the reason to store holograms on bio-neural gel. Bio-neural circuitry uses lossless compression, while isolinear circuitry is 'lossy'. What this means is that for each year the holofile sits on your isolinear storage assembly, it will lose roughly 12% cohesion, assuming you have isolinear chips - it's about 15% depolarization on isolinear memory modules, but only 7% fragmentation on isolinear rods, due to rotational velocidensity. You don't want to know how much worse it is on duotronics or other optronic media.

I started collecting holoprograms in about 2347, and if I try to play any of the holosimulations I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320% efficient encoding, they just run like an Armus. The polygon vector resolution is terrible, the midrange photonic balance... well don’t get me started. Some of those holoprojections have degraded down to 32 or even 16 fractal recursion layers. Holonovels stored on bio-neural gel from the same period still run great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry computer core. Seriously, stick to bio-neural gel, you may not be able to feel the difference now, but in a thousand stardates or two, you’ll be glad you did.

ENT was taken off the air because of studio intervention. The ratings were the same as DS9 and VOY. Fact is, Star Trek had been declining in viewership ever since TNG went off the air and ENT was too expensive for UPN so they canned it. ENT's cancellation was about UPN than it was ENT.

>On the cancellation of "Enterprise" (2001): "Someone said that Paramount went to the well one too many times and our show just happened to be that walk to the well. I tend to agree with that. I don't think our numbers were really that much worse than Voyager or Deep Space Nine -- they were all in the same ballpark -- but the cost-to-viewer ratio of Star Trek reached a point when we were making Enterprise where it was no longer satisfactory to the studio. Star Trek was no longer cost effective." (October 2006)

Oh I agree, but purely because of the passage of time and better technology, it has arguably the best effects.

I mean take the scene where Kirk is on the bike and there are all those holo duplicates. Yeah it's dumb, but it looks pretty good, and you know that had they tried something like that in even the Next Gen films, it would have looked janky as fuck.

>>
>>87245947
You're misinterpreting the data. Enterprise actually represented a spike in viewership, but then went back to the same downward trend that had started with DS9. So essentially, Enterprise revitalized the fanbase for a time but wasn't able to keep them. Same thing happened with Voyager, you can clearly see the trend on that chart. The viewerbase had Star Trek fatigue.

TMP. Single best effects sequence: Drydock scene. That model still shits all over the JJverse Enterprise and every other physical model. Damn pity the pearlescent paint proved so impractictal that they had to tone it down so significantly starting from TWOK (and even more in the movies that followed – by the time TUC it really looks like the model was a uniform off-white colour). Well, actually they had already toned it down (or rather sprayed it with a coat of matte varnish) before the shooting on TMP started, but TMP still stayed as true as possible to the original paint scheme. As close as they could get without massive blue-spill issues.

I agree the drydock scene is great from an effects standpoint but I feel like the self destruct scene from III is better because they're doing more with it, and a proper model explosion is always spectacular. The Mutara Nebula battle at the end of WoK is also amazingly good. I also really love the fight at the end of TUC, especially with those torpedo effects. It has such a nice flair to it.

Yeah, not saying that those weren't great as well. The self-destruct scene from STIII sure did what it took to maximise the impact it was supposed to have. I do have some problems with it though.
Firstly I never bought into the hull burning away like paper and secondly the rotoscoped elements in that scene just look sorta... off. And the final explosion still looks just like what it is: A super-imposed explosion with no harm done.

It just looks cool, really, and that was done to make the process look more "painful" so to speak, to really put the ship through hell before putting it out of it's misery.
>the rotoscoped elements look off
I agree some of the explosions leading up to the big one look clumsily layered over the frames, but specifically within the gif that was posted (the most important part) it looks nearly perfect. I think they did a great job with it. Did they not really blow up that model? I guess on closer inspection it doesn't look quite perfect, but still. I really love that kino scene afterward where they watch the ship go down over the planet as well.

TNG is much more easily digestible than DS9. You could watch any episode from any season, and providing it isn't a two parter, be able to enjoy it. DS9 whilst not being a tightly woven serialised show, relies far more on prior episodes than any series other than Enterprise, particularly season 3.

I hated DS9 as a kid and never watched it. Now it's my favourite because when I rewatched it when I got older, I was able to appreciate what was going on from episode to episode, series to series.

People like you place way too much importance on what is shown on television. It's almost as if television rules your entire lives. That's really sick, you know? Like a seriously mentally ill type of sickness.

In regard to the possibility of a sudden loss of artificial gravity, any competent engineer would have designed the space toilet to automatically draw the waste away from the occupied area of the room and seal the opening to prevent any spillage outside of the toilet. Sorry... but you scat obsessed jews will have to think of another way to play with poop.

My response was to someone lamenting the likely state of Trek threads after STD comes out. I was pointing out that at least I'll have Orville Autists to laugh at, but please, keep deflecting.

So because he used the word new, you assume we must automatically jump over?

It's a separate thread about STD conspiracy theories. Just ignore it unless you want to discuss STD conspiracy theories

You people really are mentally ill, aren't you? LOL. I really must do some research on this, because I'd really like to know if there is a specific type of mental disorder that causes a person to insist they are right, even when they are wrong; take great offense to minor disagreements; over-rationalize their ideas or behavior to a group of anonymous strangers; all the while being completely obsessed with every detail of a 50 year old television series to the point of demanding that all participant in any given discussion about it either adhere to the prevailing groupthink or be ruthlessly ridiculed and ostracized.

I think my favourite thing about Voyager, was that they just skip over the fact that Chakotay essentially has synthetic Peyote in his quarters for every time he goes on one of his dumb vision quests.

Like, we're watching someone get off their fucking tits and hallucinating, but it's a weird little box so it's ok.

You will find yourself living in a shotgun schack.
Or you may find yourself in another part of the world.
Or you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile.
Or you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife.
And you will ask yourself: "Well... how did I get here?"
