Looks like The Wheel of Time is being made into a series by Sony. Try to contain your excitement levels -- it's really happening!

-LEAKED SCRIPT-
SONY's (TM) Wheel of Time
Season 1, Ep. 19

Seanchan: Artur Ackbar, we shall righteously slay all of you oath-breakers and claim the lands of our forefathers.

Perrin: We must stop them from reaching the shores. Aes Sedai, I suggest building a wall to keep them out.

Egwene: *gasp* How could you, Perrin? They're people just like you and me! We should be more welcoming to these migrants. If we treat all of them according to the actions of a few, we'd be bigots! #LoveTrumpsHate #LetThemIn #SeanchanLivesMatter

Nynaeve: *tugs braid furiously* Light burn you, woolhead, I'll box you around the ears.

Perrin: *nods respectfully towards her*

Either the adaptation is terrible like Legend of the Seeker and forgotten within a month, or it's hugely popular like GoT despite cutting out 99% of the magic and we have to deal with tv only secondaries posting shit on the internet like they know anything.

If the latter happens, expect all conventions to be flooded with enough Aes Sedai to make Suicide Squad Harley and Spider-Gwen look unpopular in comparison.

Seleucia, Tuon's handmaide/servant/adviser
and then that innkeeper in Ebour Dar I guess
and then some girl working at the same inn
Mat had tough times in Ebou Dar

at least 3 forsaken were somewhat well-plotted, Graendal, Lanfear (who gets better with resurrection into a new body) and Halima (former male put as a joke into a voluptuous female body)

the main cast should probably be about average, so if all things go right we get the right amount of waifukino

It's not meant to be awesome, though. Well, it is, but it's cast as a horrifying meat grinder that has most of Rand's forces throwing up in disgust, and Perrin still gets sick to his stomach thinking about it five books later.

Rand beating the shit out of the Seanchan with five thousand men + four Asha'man against their 50k+ and over a dozen damane though? That was awesome.

I love how much cleaner yet gorier RJ is in his books than GRRM. Like the characters can only curse by saying light or bloody ashes, but then you have entire families being cooked alive or having their soles ripped out to make evil weapons, and then people basically misted in magic blenders. Then you have characters embarrassed to look at big boobies for too long the next page over.

>Darlin dismounted before a tremendous tent, the largest Min had ever seen, larger than any she had ever imagined, a great red-striped oval, shining in the sunlight like silk, with no fewer than four high conical peaks, each with the Rising Sun of Cairhien stirring above in a lazy breeze, gold on blue. The strumming of harps drifted out amid the murmur of voices, like the sounds of geese. As servants took away the horses, Darlin offered his arm to Caraline. After a very long pause, she laid her fingers lightly on his wrist with no expression whatsoever, letting him escort her inside.
>“My Lady wife?” Rand murmured with a smile, extending his arm.
>Min sniffed and put her hand atop his. She would rather have hit him.

I want their to be a Fellowship of the Rings sense of wonder at all the places they travel to.

GoT characters aren't impressed by anything because they're all rich nobles and they won't let themselves act that way, so it affects the way things are shot. I want to be wowed by Shadar Logoth, feel how much more crowded Baerlon is versus the Two Rivers despite just being a mountain hick lumber town.

How is that wheel supposed to turn? Won't the snake break the spokes? If it goes round and round with the wheel won't the snake get dizzy and throw up its tail?
>>
>>87214754
I always thought setting up the first third of The Eye of the World as a mirror of The Fellowship of the Ring was mildly brilliant given the "Wheel of Time" conceit. Implying that Tolkien's tale is a legend distorted by time, but this is what REALLY happened.

The whole ta'veren thing was a nice hack too, more writers should be original in their quest to be lazy. Rigney is the top hack of all hacks.
>>
>>87214838
>Implying that Tolkien's tale is a legend distorted by time, but this is what REALLY happened.
I threw up in my mouth a little at the idea that Tolkien's tale is the imperfect reflection of Jordan's hackery
>>
>>87214838

>here's a plot concept that literally allows the main three characters to be unkillable and skilled

And I liked how familiar Eye of the World feels. You can draw all of the parallels to FotR easily, like Two Rivers being the Shire, Baerlon being Bree, Caemlyn being Rivendell, Shienar being Lothlorien, but Shadar Logoth itself is best part. Maybe it's the Weathertop stand in, but it does so much more to give depth and history.
>>
The last part I read in this series was when Rand and Mat are at this ruined Aiel city and they're going through all kinds of hallucinations. Rand sees the Dark One's prison being broken I think. Does anyone know which book that's in?
>>
>>87214900

>>
>>87214976

I'm willing to admit I don't understand the Mason meme but no I get that there's an eternal recurrence thing going on with the Wheel of Time and all of htis has happened before and will happen again in slightly different ways because the wheel weaves as the wheel wills an age long past an age yet to come blah blah blah

I don't care that he shallowly justified how derivative it all is and the fact that his main characters are mary sues has an in-setting name and everything. I still hated that.

4. Brown. Also lose points because they should be using the knowledge they catalogue.

Because the Aes Sedai actively discourage it, their divisions have stratified to the point that they spend their time playing political games with each other. Maybe back at the very beginning they were actually just general areas people tended to focus on, but they're completely different by the time the series happens, because the Tower just can't resist forming into their little social groups and sniping at or fighting the others.

1 Yellow - actually dedicated to healing people, most loyal to Aes Sedai name meaning (Servant of All)
2. Brown Ajah, gathering and storing of knowledge is the foundation of a civilization, most likely helped save huge amounts of information from age of legends preventing collapse back to stone age after Breaking
3. Red Ajah, when actually following guidelines, they are dedicated the preventing another Breaking and making sure men going mad don't become mass murderers who butcher villages or towns because they think someone looked at them weird
4. Grey, when doing their job they can be proper diplomats, preventing wars and besides there are never enough layers
5. Blue, apart from random question and taking up weird causes, we barely know why they even exist
6. Whites, theoretical mathematics and basic philosophies are all fine and nice when you get to live in your own Ivory/White Tower, but borderline useless in general
7. Greens, if they actually stopped having orgies and training their Warders as bed servants they might actually have time to actual battle training and helping fight against the Blight... what the fuck were like 300 Green sisters doing when Malkier fell to Shadow?

I just want to say one thing.

There have been several posts made in this thread intimating that Brandon Sanderson's contributions to The Wheel of Time were somehow not good, or inferior to what came before. To the poster(s) who made these claims, I say this: Your an idiot. Brandon Sanderson sacrificed his life for years, putting on hold projects he was developing, taking time away from his family, just to work on finishing The Wheel of Time. What he produced was actually pretty great. No, it's not the same as what the original author might have come up with, but he poured all of his skill and effort into creating three books which adequately finished the series. It was a monumental task, and to belittle it is frankly wrong. All true Wheel of Time fans acknowledge and respect Mr. Sanderson and appreciate the work he produced.

Moiraine says it in New Spring the prequel. The Tower sent well over a hundred Aes Sedai to help Malkier, but they didn't get there in time, they simply weren't fast enough to get word, organise the response, and ride out.

So they don't talk about it, hence nobody knows, because they don't like admitting that it was a failure on their part.

Wheel of Time has such awkward gender politics. It's like the entire series is fundamentally about "men are stupid and dangerous, ugh men never listen, let's all worship hot smart women with sexy tits, mmmm sexy tits"

It's sort of a male feminist fever dream, putting women on a pedestal and ending up really creepy
>>
>>87236890
women are the only ones with access to clean power, women are btfo constantly nonstop and the series is not feminist it just takes place in a matriarchy
>>
>>87236890
Not really, it's more the result of power-organisations for the past 3000 years in the setting being women-dominated. It actually highlights the imbalance, where everything is going to shit (the White Tower are a complete and utter fuckup and have been for the last couple thousand years) until both sides actually start talking and working together, and is even reflected in the magic: male and female working together is far superior to either alone.
>>
>>87236890
You've kinda misses the point, or maybe just didn't read it all the way through, it is a matriarchy but that's not a good thing at all, in fact its very bad and almost ends the world, if anything the series is about equality real equality
>>
>>87237025
I didn't read it all the way through, you got me. I think I read five books? In any case it's so fundamentally about gender essentialism that it's very awkward either way. I expect it to create 10,000 confused Jezebel articles.
>>
>>87236967

The amount of female rulers, and Andor being a de jure/de facto matriarchy kind of make sense. Also the visible lack of prostitution across the continent. Stems from the influence of women in the highest forms of power and each individually living for 200-250 years. You don't get rulers like Robert Baratheon or Joffrey because the White Tower would come down hard on their asses, to the point where a nation would need to keep them out like Amadicia where a templar-like religious order has taken command.

But the series does constantly make some jabs at the women being so smart by having them routinely captured, needed to be rescued or helped by men, and then saying they were about to do it themselves and the dumb men ruined everything.
>>
>>87236890
It's literally the opposite of that. Women have had premacy for 3000 years and accomplished nothing, a man comes along and his policies cause an industrial revolution in less than a decade.
>>
>>87237126
>a man comes along and his policies cause an industrial revolution in less than a decade
Specifically less than two years, considering the series starts in 998 and ends in 1000. Women dumped the setting into a medieval/early renaissance stagnation for millennia.
>>
>>87237118
>Also the visible lack of prostitution across the continent
There's plenty of prostitution, it's just never really relevant. Tom even says to Elayne after Birgitte almost dies that if she were a man he'd "Give her a swift kick in the behind and find her a prostitute". only, he cuts himself off at the end there because Elayne is a daughter figure to him.

>>
>>87237327

I think I had one of those, it ended right at Shadar Logoth.
>>
>>87237311
It's highlighted that the continent the story takes place on is sparsely populated. For example Two Rivers is technically part of Andor, but nobody even knows, because there's no travel between the places. In book two, it's highlighted that large stretches of land around Cairhien are just deserted. It's prime farmland, but there's just nobody to work it, and even though some kingdoms claim it on maps, they don't actually have an influence.
The Aiel came over the spine of the world with 200,00 troops, and they were enough of a military force to fight evenly with *all* the kingdoms at once.

With such a low population density, large scale warfare just isn't going to happen, which is why all the "wars" after Artur Hawkwing were really just minor skirmishes. Humanity nearly went extinct in the Trolloc Wars, essentially.

>>87238715
I can't remember her dissolving the ajahs, but yes she wanted to tie every women channeler to the tower, and yes ajahs were fluid during the age of wonders, it was just what you were doing at the time, science, diplomacy etc. you weren't locked into a single ajah
>>
>>87238715
The tower wasn't established until several hundred years after the breaking, and the Ajahs were barely a thing until the trolloc wars.

Egwene wanted to end the stratification in the tower, because it was not only impeding the tower politically and garnering Aes Sedai a reputation for sniping and backbiting, but because it was costing them knowledge. Ajahs would have weaves they'd only teach their own people, even individual sisters would keep knowledge of some things exclusively to themselves and take it to their graves. They were preventing progress.

>The ajahs didn't even exist when men were part of the tower, right?
They did not, or not really.

In the time of the Age of Legends, "Aes Sedai" didn't define what you were. You could follow other occupations or the like if you wanted, as being Aes Sedai generally didn't elevate you socially (they solved world hunger, famine, poverty, etc., so it was service to the community/world that granted you a third name). The "ajahs" were temporary groups brought together in common purpose to accomplish specific tasks. For example, Lanfear (then Mierin) and Beidomon, in researching at the Collam Daan and ultimately creating the Bore, would have been an ajah.

Essentially, the word was interchangeable with "team". A "research team" or a "medical team" or a "exploration team" and so on and so forth.

Aes Sedai were all governed by the Hall of the Servants, headquartered at Paaran Disen (etymologically similar to "Paradise" and possibly also "Paris"), which was the capital of the planet (humanity had also reached other planets and possibly other solar systems, as well as other dimensions). If you could channel, then they'd either teach you to control it or you became Aes Sedai, though training was fucking hardcore. One of the Forsaken actually reminisces about how learning to hold the Void necessary to reach saidin involved him being towed on a sled behind a horse in a thunderstorm with a red hot coal pushed against his back. That said, since anything short of death could be healed, training accidents were few to none.

Rand says in the last book that he did think there were societal problems that the then-world leaders were ignoring and war would have broken out regardless of the Bore, eventually, but it was, for all intents and purposes, an absolute golden age. Average lifespan 200 years, no famine, no war, only really death by old age or freak accident.

>topless wind finders
I would also like to see windfinders manipulating huge torrents of the power while their ample bosoms sway around, free and unclothed.

What race were the sea people supposed to be?

Nevertheless, there's no way Hollywood will actually find busty actresses to portray busty characters.
>>
>>87239576
They're pretty obviously a mix of Indian and Polynesian.

We'll see

I always considered them to be tall negritos
>>
>>87239604

That would make the most sense given their lifestyle.

I need to rediscover what all the basic races of each land were supposed to be. Arad Doman were like Indians, I think, maybe Perians, or Arabs? RJ kept saying coppery.
>>
>>87239706
Arad Doman were Hispanics. Ituralde was clearly meant to be played by Antonio Banderas.
>>
>>87239729
This is perfect casting
>>
DAE think Hopper should be played by a wolfdog and not an actual wolf?
>>
The hard male/female split is gonna play hell with the LGBT community. Expect some rewrites or new characters.
>>
>>87239812

Even better when we get the two forsaken resurrected.
>>
Forced diversity in an already diverse setting will ruin it. Mark my words.
>>
>>87239706
iirc, Jordan liked to mix and match. So Seanchan we're Texas/Japan, Ariel were Scotland/Arab
>>
>>87239894
the big bads of the first book being reincarnated as comic relief is almost the best part of the series
>>
>>87239970
Seanchan were Chinese and Texan. Shienar was Japan.
>>
>>87239984

And one of them also has some of the biggest tits in the books.
>>
>>87239970
Aiel were Zulu and Australian Aborigine with a bit of Irish thrown in.
>>
>>87240019
wait, how big were halima's boobs?
>>
>>87228059
You on crack? Wot characters are literally Black and White.
>>
>>87240066
Elaida? Galad?
>>
>>87240066
Rand is literally Lucifer and he's the protagonist.
>Lord of the morning
>Prince of Dawn
>Breaker of the world
>Represented by a Serpent

>She often showed a large amount of her full, firm bosom.

No idea, let's assume huge.

Real shame that RJ isn't around anymore to answer shōnen tit comparison questions
>>
>>87240057
Large enough to put her in the top end, but not enough to reach Selucia's tittymonster class.
>>
>>87240269

A bust chart would have been indispensable. Assume someone like Min has B cups and work up from there. I imagine Moiraine would be decent for her size.

Shai'tan is a good boy
he dindu nuffin!
>>
>>87240378
he was just feeling left out desu
>>
>>87240378
Reminder that the "fights" between the Creator's Champion and the Dark One are basically rigged in favour of the Light. He'll never truly win.
>>
>>87240327
Wait, you really think Min had B cups? Any textual evidence of that?
>>
>>87240428
It's not rigged, the dark one simply can never escape, because he's imprisoned by his own lack of understanding more than anything else. The degree of his imprisonment is 100% changeable though.
Throughout the series it's very heavily implied that the Dragon has been defeated to various degrees before, from Lews Therin's phyrric victory, to actually dying before ever reaching the last battle. There's also the valid comparisons between Rand and Lucifer which would imply that our current world is one in which he lost and was remembered as the bad guy.

Moridin's viewpoint is the opposite. No matter how many times the Wheel turns, the Dark One will eventually win, because he only needs to win once to unmake the world, whereas everyone else has to win every time.
>>
>>87240505

She wasn't nothing, but she also wasn't ever described like Elayne or Aviendha in the chest department. Now Tuon was pretty small.
>>
>>87240505
She's described as short and slender, but her "snug coats" still show things off.
>>
>>87216658
Severely Underrated

> No matter how many times the Wheel turns, the Dark One will eventually win, because he only needs to win once to unmake the world, whereas everyone else has to win every time.
Even this is a lie that Elan's small eyes prefer to believe. Shaitan has unmade creation already, it's just that the Creator can simply remake a new one. And so it turns. Neither of them can truly not be.
>>
>>87241101
You are a Mason
>>
>>87241494
Has nothing to do with it. Only the epistemological assumption that there will never be a witness to say creation has not been unmade and remade, simply because any witness would not have any memory of it. Only the two poles know for sure and only Shaitan the Liar talks about it, the creator never confirms or denies it..
