the former
super heroes are childish by nature
Well it depends on the film. I'm tired of quipshit honestly because Marvel have driven it into the ground. Iron Man 1 was good but they just ran on the formula for a decade longer without the slightly politically incorrect mannerisms of Tony.
It's not about lack of colors, is not about gore or theme.
You can't go Grimdark and have a shitty story full of plotholes.
The whole point of "Grimdark" is to make things appear in a "realistic" way. You can't ask someone to suspend their disbelief with the promise of a "serious" setting and then make the characters do stupid shit, or show things that don't make sense within the given context.

I agree. This is why BvS was good but Logan wasn't.
Reminder that MCU has been going on for 15 films now with ZERO worthwhile contributions to the film medium.
How to Train a Dragon is a masterpiece.

HTTYD is actually far superior to GoT S7.
Quipping is fine in moderation, but when your major climactic battles pause the action every 5 seconds for the characters to snark at each other, you kill a significant amount of investment in your story.
Also, fuck you HTTYD is kino. Don't even mention capeshit in the same post.
