The scene is fascinating because the more you watch it and think about it the less sense anything in it makes. Everything from the overall plot of the scene, the dialogue, the acting etc. is so utterly non-sensical.

It might not seem that bad on a first watch when you "turn your brain off" and then the rest of the movie happens but it's a prime example of a scene so out of place it feels like it was intentionally absurd. I unironically thought it was edited at first when I watched a Youtube clip.

- He asks shit like "Tell me about Bane why does he wear the mask?", not where he is hiding, what are his plans, who finances him...
- He takes in 3 strangers into his plane just because another random guy tells him he should. He never gets their fingerprints or any type of ID, doesn't even check under the hoods to see their faces. - Bane calls CIA's bluff about him having reported having only one prisioner (a lie to scare them), yet at the end he asks for one of his men to stay behind because "they expect one of us at the wreckage brother".

I thought it was simply a passable opening scene before all the Americans sexualised the "big guy" line. That is actually a totally acceptable thing to say to someone in Brit and Aus and SA. It just implies his size counts for nothing.

It's one of the most akward and nonsensical things I can recall in a major theatrical release in the past several years. The character dialogue and motivations make ZERO sense. I still can't think of a single conceivable reason why Bane would kidnap Dr. Pavel, sneak him onto a CIA plane to "find out what he'd told [them]" (he literally said nothing, you were there the whole time and he knew you were the League of Shadows), and organize a heist to sneak him back out other than to fake Dr. Pavel's for which there are far simpler methods. The new dialogue they dubbed over for Bane is also really hammy and the sound mixing is inappropriately loud because when the scene played in theater previews months in advance, no one could understand what Bane was saying which sources say scared executives to death.

But I love it and I love Baneposting, Aiden Gillen and Tom Hardy did the best with what they were given and the one thing I don't think I can fault with the scene is their acting. They had fun with it and delivered their lines in lively ways. I don't think the scene ever would've been as enduring as it is if they kept the original Bane dialogue and Aiden wasn't being such a brash goofball. There's also some legitimate depth to the CIA character that might not be so apparent until repeat viewings, even without the novelization (accurately) expositing it; how Bane is his white whale, he's wasting interrogation time inquiring both the captive and Bane himself about the mask (which isn't the most pertinent information and is fueled solely by his morbid curiosity), and he's so mystified by Bane's presence that he's ignoring his men warning him about the turbulence from the Leage of Shadows plane.

But yeah, it was an attempt by Nolan to recapture the lightning in the bottle that was the Joker bank heist scene's duplicity and it just fell flat to me. The Dark Knight rises in general felt dialed-in.
