I got mid-way through S2 and then stopped during its original airing, after the initial episodes, the following 3 weeks had literally no progression from what was set up in the original. Just people mulling around for an hour a week.

Finally re-watched the whole thing a couple of months ago and I can't even remember how it ended, I just remember Vaugn had a neat scene in the desert and that's about it.

Whereas I watched S1 just once when it came out and I can remember all the major plot points. My only issue with S1 was the silly connection between the drawing having green ears and that being the revelation that led them to the groundskeeper. If I recall, it was green paint from him painting a fence or some shit. It would have been a lot better if it had been green ear defenders he'd been wearing while mowing the lawn or something like that, or another connection entirely. That really irked me for some reason.
