>>87135085
Not nearly as scary as being in D.C.
>>
>>87135085

Compared to most modern horror, I'd say yeah. The film definitely took advantage of its R-rating. The opening scene with Georgie in this film makes the miniseries version look cute by comparison. Pennywise's mouth opens like an anaconda, his eyes roll back into his head, and bites off Georgie's arm without the camera cutting away. You see Georgie screaming in pain as he starts crawling away from the sewer with his bloody arm nub, and then of course Pennywise grabs him. It was surprising because gory violence with children doesn't happen often in films.

The brutality of Pennywise and his omnipotent presence makes shit constantly feel tense, because you get the feeling that he's always watching the kids.

There are a shitload of jumpscares, which I normally despise in horror, but these were all creative and interesting to watch.

Does pennywise kidnap beverly? And why
>>
>>87135240

Pennywise's presence is more disturbing than funny, but I'll say this right now: You will be surprised at the amount of comedy in this film. It's genuinely hilarious at times, which I did not expect. The trailers had the kids bickering, but it came off as cringeworthy. It works in the actual film.

Basically, if you love the coming-of-age vibe of films like E.T., The Goonies and Stand By Me, you'll enjoy the interactions between the kids.

>>87135215

I mostly loved it. Some of the pacing feels slow (it takes forever for the kids to realize that Pennywise isn't just a figment of their imagination) but I was impressed they were able to condense so much from the book without it feeling bloated.

>>87135171

Listen, I love Tim Curry, but I went back and watched clips from the miniseries after seeing the new film, and in terms of the most authentic Pennywise, this new guy fucking nailed it. He comes off as nightmarish and childlike all at the same time. It's like watching a savage monster trying to imitate something vaguely human.

>>
>>87135256

No, but there's heavily implied incest between Beverly and her father. And by "heavily", I mean to the point where he's about to rape her before she kills him with blunt force trauma to the head, which is never again mentioned in the film after it happens.

>>87135479

Yes. Pennywise kidnaps Beverly because he senses that Beverly does not fear him, which intrigues him and wants to instill fear in her because he feeds off it.

Also, Pennywise's lair is fucking awesome.
>>
This new Pennywise has to be the scariest movie monster we've seen in years. Literally years. There's two scenes in this movie that absolutely sent shivers down my spine. First when Pennywise possesses the slideshow and we finally get to see his very creepy and mental face in the final scene. What a build-up! I nearly pissed myself.

The other one is in the basement, first we see the excellent performance by Georgie's actor. You'll float too never has sounded more epically scary. And then Pennywise rises from the waters. I jumped in my chair and still do when watching this. I can tell I will be on the edge of my seat in theatres this september.

As far as I could tell, it's because she originally feared her father, but after she killed him, she had gotten rid of her greatest fear.

Pennywise briefly transforms into her father during the penultimate scene in the lair to try and mess with her, but she reacts with no emotion and just stabs the fuck out of him.

>>
>>87135879
>what monsters do they use instead of the 50's ones?

Richie's fear is literally clowns, which seemed a little too convenient. Some curly haired kid I forgot the name of (the worst actor of them all) has a fear of a fucked up painting of a woman in his house, which Pennywise transforms into a few times.

The leper scene was pretty fucked up because it happens in broad daylight.

Speaking of that, a lot of the Pennywise scenes take place during daylight, so you don't just see him shrouded in darkness the whole film. My favorite scene is when The kids look over and see Pennywise standing between bushes, just chomping on a bloody arm. He notices the kids and enthusiastically waves at them with the arm.

Nah, this is chapter one. All of the adult shit will happen in the next film. I wonder if they'd have the balls to pull off the turtle and spider explanation.

However, Pennywise is definitely still a spider entity. They don't fully show his true form, but his arms turn into spider legs a few times. He also unhinges his jaw and his face folds back into itself, and you see that he has thousands of sharp teeth. It's maybe the creepiest visual in the film. It'll fuck up anyone who has trypophobia.

King did this with the book too, the kids all see him and even act like the others are fucking with them, Stan gets hints of IT but only really believes in him till Bill saves him on the bike, did that happen in the movie?

>He comes off as nightmarish and childlike all at the same time. It's like watching a savage monster trying to imitate something vaguely human.

This is so right on to the books, Pennywise is often referred in the books as normal looking if you look at him from afar and get more disturbing when you get close or look to hard.

The bully leader Henry Bowers is viciously psychotic and begins carving his name into Ben's belly before he escapes into the forest and meets the Losers Club for the first time.

>>87136470

He's slightly featured. He's really just a minion of Henry. He does however get an entire scene dedicated to Pennywise trolling the shit out of him in a sewage tunnel by manifesting himself as dead children and then killing him.

>>87136413

They only show glimpses of his final form. Like I said, he's definitely still a spider entity in this version.

The final battle takes place in Pennywise's lair and yep they straight up just beat the shit out of him with various mundane items like baseball bats and pipes.

I honestly never thought they would do the silver dollar thing, its also makes Pennywise's inevitable return more likely.
Do they keep the part about the military guys bar burns down and do they keep the Shining reference with Dick Hollorann?

>>87137017
Whats the problem? I was a 80's kid and this is honestly what me and my friends would have done with a killer clown. Would you rather they show him once with a silver dollar and then jump in a drain and acted like he died and every one goes "well after one shot in the face he must be dead" and then they leave.

In Kings "the dark tower" the tower itself is held by invisible pillars that extend to the edges of the worlds, at the end of each pillar there is a door with a guardian (bear, spider, turtle, etc) and because IT exist in the tower canon there are certain nods that the historiy gives to the dark tower, you can see this on basically every king book

Not sure what to tell ya. Pennywise's arms turn into spider appendages multiple times. Also, it was hard to see, but after the kids severely weaken him, his face starts cracking apart and his true face looked like a black void. I based my speculation on that. Maybe it was just a nod to the book?

No King does it right by leaving hints and throw backs if you read them all but they are not needed.

The kids are all great with the exception of the kid who plays Stan. He was fucking terrible. Every line delivery he gave felt like something out of an episode of Sesame Street. Thankfully he doesn't have as much screen time as the rest of the gang.

The breakout star, and the best thing besides Pennywise, is the kid who plays Richie. He plays Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things. The audience loved him. He's foul-mouthed and rude but in a realistic non-bratty way. Basically, they all felt like real kids, apparently because they became real friends on set.

Also, this trivia from IMDB is interesting to me. Method acting usually seems unnecessary, but I think this depressing tidbit genuinely helped his performance.

>"Andrés Muschietti kept Bill Skarsgård isolated from the rest of the cast/crew during the beginning of filming, the exception being a three person costume/makeup team. This was to make sure Skarsgård's performance was shocking to the other actors, as well as to avoid leaked photos. Although Skarsgård thought this was a good strategy, he admitted that he felt very lonely during this time, and was sad that he couldn't bond with the rest of the people involved, something he says is one of his favorite parts of making a movie. These feelings were intensified when he heard about how much fun everyone else was having without him and how they all called it one of the best projects they'd ever worked on."

He can feast on anyone but children are easier to scare and taste better. Fear makes the food taste better due to kids having "magic", they can defeat him is also this reason. They just so happen to stumble on to this be total accident since he designed the town to breed anger, hate, and violence so most people get driven to isolation.

When I say "magic" its a very nebulous term they use to handwave what is mostly them guessing. It uses this to his advantage but gets screwed when the kids use it on him. When you are not around IT you tend to forget or loose the connection, that is why when they are adults they forget about IT and they don't notice that they have scars and stuff from fighting him, they even forget the other losers club members for a bit. Bev even lights up at the mere mention of Bill or Ben's name like a door got opened.

I recommend reading the book or checking out the audio book, fucking Steven Webber is on point when he reads King's books. I'm actually listing to the audio book right now so I get a refresher and there is a lot I forgot or mixed up with the mini series.

If a kid from Derry moved far away, like to another state, could It still target them? Or is It's power restricted to Derry itself kinda like how Freddy Krueger is bound by the confines of Springwood?

Also, how does It deal with a kid with autism or some other mental deficiency that doesn't allow It's power of fear to get through? Like a kid with an overactive imagination and doesn't really put much thought into Pennywise?

>If a kid from Derry moved far away, like to another state, could It still target them? Or is It's power restricted to Derry itself kinda like how Freddy Krueger is bound by the confines of Springwood?
From the books it can effect people from a far distance but its mostly confided to his hunting ground, but I think that's mostly due to it being territorial and the world in general is full of people and things that can use IT or IT uses them. He formed Derry to fit his needs. In the books there is a connection to The Shinning, and IT is at least referenced in other books. In general there are things out there as terrifying as IT out in the world of Stephen King.

Never thought to compare Freddy to IT.

>Also, how does It deal with a kid with autism or some other mental deficiency that doesn't allow It's power of fear to get through? Like a kid with an overactive imagination and doesn't really put much thought into Pennywise?

He seems to have a better chance of using them but i don't think he will feed on them if Henry Bowers is the norm, I think mentally handicaped people must tast bad since he kills them or sends them off to help him, never feeds on them, Bev's ex is shown to have extreme anger problems as like her father and Bowers and he never feeds on them, and he uses them to do shit for him. Although the father is only hinted at being used in the books.

When I first read the book and saw the 1990 mini-series, I saw the comparison because of the fact how they're both vicious monsters that love to mind-fuck with young people. At least with Freddy, you're safe so long as you're awake or better yet, you're not in the town anymore.

It can attack you in broad daylight when you're awake like possessing that Paul Bunyan statue and trying to swipe at Ritchie.

I know, but Maine is definitely the one state in the King universe that I would NOT step foot in because of all the insanity there.

>God I love Dream Warriors. If my favorite of the series and objectively the best in the series. Like the Friday the 13th part 6 of the series.
All the Wes Craven Freddy movies are amazing. Dream Warriors addressed what happens to the Final Girl after they survive and how they pick up the pieces of their life.

>The governor stole a shit load of money for personal use and is still in office
And she isn't being impeached or investigated? Surely government auditors would step in and realize she's cooking the books.

BTW, I've been meaning to visit New Mexico in the near future because I have a friend in Arizona so I wanna stop by there as well where my buddy is. Is it worth the road trip or no?

>>he admitted that he felt very lonely during this time, and was sad that he couldn't bond with the rest of the people involved
>>These feelings were intensified when he heard about how much fun everyone else was having without him and how they all called it one of the best projects they'd ever worked on."
>That's really sad. I wanna give him a hug now.

Its a good sign the movie will play well to its characters, they did the same thing with the second, third, and fourth Friday the 13th movies, they kept Jason away from the actors till the day they filmed their scenes together so the campers seemed like real friends and the monster was scary to them.

>All the Wes Craven Freddy movies are amazing.
I mostly agree, I dont like New Nightmare but that is a personal issue.

>And she isn't being impeached or investigated? Surely government auditors would step in and realize she's cooking the books.
Oddly its never been brought up, she literally gambled with it and went on vacation, then disappeared for a few weeks out of public eye and every one just forgot.

>BTW, I've been meaning to visit New Mexico in the near future because I have a friend in Arizona so I wanna stop by there as well where my buddy is. Is it worth the road trip or no?
There is a lot of the state that is beautiful, and I'm not even going to lie the city its self look great when you are passing though but its not called the land of entrapment for nothing. Rio Rancho is nice, so is a lot of the mountain towns, and there are a shit load of parks, its just I would never have come to this stupid city if I knew what was here. I'm not even joking when I say the city is full of drunk Natives, White crack heads, and Mexican meth heads.

Check out some news articles and then talk to the people, what gets printed and what happens are two different things, we had a string of murders a few months back that never made it into the papers, the up side it there are a shit load of loyal latina chicks.

Why the fuck didn't they wait til mid October to release this? Don't horror films do better the closer you get to Halloween?

WHY isn't bev afraid of pennywise? And what does he do to try and scare her?
>>
>>87135793
> which is never again mentioned in the film after it happens.

He's probably not dead then. Having Bev kill her dad would put her in the Juniper Hill Asylum.
>>
>>87146459
Now it´s the perfect moment to release it, given the dry summer weekends lately
>>
Im reading the script now
Its pretty brazy cuz It is just in the kids houses and likes fucking with them to scare them so they taste better and he can overpower them (since It is actually really weak unless they're afraid).

Like It just goes into their house and like into their bedrooms and trolls them all day. Like in that scene he has his brothers corpse and then he floods the basement and makes Will go into the basement and then he sock puppets the bros body and then jumps out like OOOGA BOOGA BOOGA STOOPID DOG and then Will runs away all scare and thats the whole point. sick sadistic childish shit to scare a child that the clown guy actually enjoys doing. hes like that tails gets trolled comic where bugs bunny acts all gay and retarded
>>
>>87147261
Because she is a more hardcore character than we've ever seen in a horror movie. Even the scariest shit doesn't phase her, she knows how to hold her ground and is perhaps even tougher than the guys.

>>
>>87138871
Not OP, but yeah, he was great. A strikingly different character than what he played in Stranger Things. The kid is legit
>>
>>87146293
Not OP but if I remember correctly

Pennywise for Georgie and Rich, and most of the movie obviously
Headless boy for Ben, something about an explosion that happened in the town years ago that everything forgot about but Ben learned through research
A painting of a creepy lady with a distorted head for Stanley
Fire with hands reaching around a door for Mike
A bunch of dead kids for Patrick
A leper for Eddie
Blood gushing out of a sink for Bev (this scene is truly fucked up)
I think Bill just had the clown form too, I can't remember
It goes generally in this order
>>

oh and a television host for a kid's tv show for the bully
