I grew up on classic Simpsons but I've never actually sat down and watched it all chronologically. Looking to change that. How many seasons do I watch before it becomes Zombie Simpsons?
>>87126886
somewhere between 8 and 11 depending on what you can tolerate, beyond that it's actually unbearable to watch
>>87127387
ok thank for respond
I looked up season 12 Simpsons to see if there are any worthwhile episodes. I started with the john swartzwelder episodes, because he's their goat.
>Simpsons go to africa
>Simpsons splits into two area codes and meets the who
These were my idealized episodes of 'nu-simpsons' , i can only imagine what they're putting out today

The episode that ClassicFags REEEEEEE over is "The Principle and the Pauper" because Skinner is revealed to be some guy called Armin Tamzarian and it undoes the """"""character development""""" of the first few seasons.

I like piña coladas.
Stop on the episode where Homer meets Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger in the woods.
It's like season 9 or something.
That episode is literally the exact moment it turns into Zombie Simpsons.
>>87127708
That is legit a great episode.
The whole point of the episode was satire making fun of fans who read too much into the show. Essentially making fun of the same people who think it's a bad episode.
The whole thing was tongue in cheek but of course plebs didn't get the joke that it was directed at themselves.
I'd say 8 is where you'll notice it's running out of steam. 3 is where Simpsons has found its voice since the sometimes clunky seasons 1 and 2. Work your way up to 8 and if you still enjoy it, keep going - otherwise go back to season 1 and 2.
>>87126886
8-11 is the cut-off point depending on what exactly you want to get out of a show like the simpsons. 11-12 is the point where the seasons have more bad ideas/episodes than good ones
somewhere in season 7 or 8

Newest episode I saw was about Homer and Flanders becoming bounty hunters and the climax of the episode consisted of a Homer/Flanders chase that reminded me of the Family Guy chicken fight scenes. That was nine years ago.

Season 10 is when the cracks are really shown to be evident.
You can see them somewhat forming by season 7, but by season 10, it's already shifted.
ok /tv/ are you a Chuck or a Sneed?
my own opinion, the show is still solid all the way to season 16.
I'd watch up to season 11. After that it becomes horrible.
It's a shame I watched a new episode recently and at it's heart it had a great idea for a classic episode but it was poorly executed.
It was about Bart getting a sadistic replacement teacher. That could have been a classic episode of Bart wrestling with someone better at annoying people than him but it ended up as trash.
>>87132249
I was a Chuck but now I'm a Sneed.
>>87132249

>>87126886
The quality starts to slide at season 8 but I would say that it's worth it to continue to the end of season 11 because there is still some good content, but mostly because Behind the Laughter serves as an amazing 'series finale' before it all goes to hell
10-12 is where it goes downhill, but there are still some good episodes. 13 is where it falls off a cliff. I think it's around season 15 or 16 when it turns into celebrity guest star of the week.
when maude dies is about as far as i can usually take it before it just turns to total shit.

That's The Dip. There is a dip in quality where it gets truly abysmal and difficult to watch, like your best friend turned into a zombie or alcholic or something. Later on, say around season 16, the quality comes back up a bit, but never to it's original heights. So it's like your alcoholic friend went into recovery and now he doesn't drink anymore but he's an annoying twat to be around but you can still be friends.
Season 10 is the cutoff, give or take a season according to taste.
From there to about season 14 there'll still be some sparse episodes that are worth your time. Look up recommendations online and watch the salvageable ones individually.
The remaining 14 seasons have no redeeming qualities whatsoever and exist solely to keep the show in the public's mind. The money Fox makes off consistently relevant Simpsons merchandise is an enormous, self-justifying fortune, so they'll continue to wasting money on that unwatchable, critical sinkhole of a time slot each week for the foreseeable future.
>tfw there have been far more bad episodes than good episodes for years
>tfw The Simpsons is therefor an objectively bad show
Didn't the Simpsons just have their lowest ever ratings and reviews for a season this year? Wonder if Fox will do anything to help the quality.

Why does this keep getting posted in Simpsons threads? Is this another element of the Sneed meme, or does the poster legitimately think this is good proof that Sneedposters are underage?
If you think you're changing people's perceptions on Sneedposting then you're a fucking retard. I hate the Sneed meme, but you somehow manage to look even stupider than them.
It's funny because THAT Christmas episode from a couple years back is the closest thing we've had to a real throwback to the golden era, and that includes the decent-at-best movie.
Also, I guess the Futurama crossover is not that bad (at least is watchable), but that FG crossover is nothing short of a hellspawn.
peaks at 6-7 and falls below season 1 quality at about season 9. that's just the number sthough, in my re-watch last summer i dropped it three quarters of the way through season 10. sure the episodes are still fine, but it's painful when just a couple weeks ago you were watching some amazing episodes.
>>87127708
That's not the border between good and bad, it's just one that exemplifies why latter simpsons isn't as good.
>>87126886
Op these anons are correct
>>87127681
>>87131710
>>87127387
I would say the exact same. 8 is a great season, there's some quality ones in 9, and 10 and 11 is really hit-and-miss with lots of cringe and the zombie Simpsons start to show up, but 12 it's nearly unwatchable.
I will say that there are some good jokes in the last few seasons - but very few, and not worth the time to sift through them, imo
When you start seeing celebrity cameos frequently and Homer becomes 100% mentally retarded. Somewhere around season 7. I can tolerate the episodes up until about 2001 because I was a kid when I was watching them but if you sit down and watch seasons 1-5 you can notice some dips at 6 and there will be a point where you go "So THIS is what everyone's talking about when they say it turns into garbage".
Although I like the episode, the Frank Grimes one was definitely a watershed moment.

I was hoping, with that title, he would get a little more indepth into exactly how it became as bad as it is.

I'm beggin ya
Leave the house
I'm downloading all 28 seasons right now and am going to binge watch it. I'll get back to you in a couple weeks when I'm done but for now I'd say sometime after season 11.
Does anyone happen to know:
1. When the animation switched to completely Korean made? Or the first episode to change the intro animation was?
2. The first instance of consecutive guest focused shows (at least two in a row) after season 10?
I know there is a lot of hate after S10, but ive been watching 11-15 lately and there are definitely still some good episodes sprinkled throughout.. or at least some episodes that had 1-2 legit funny moments. As soon as the animation style changed and the episodes became guest celebrity focused is the absolute bottom of the barrel for me.
When you didn't think The Simpsons could possibly get any worse, they fire Alf Clausen. Fuck you Richard Sakai.
http://www.avclub.com/longtime-composer-alf-clausen-has-been-fired-from-the-s-1798639971
The episode where Homer crashes into the house of the hollywood literally whos is the final straw.
Rewatched it recently. The cracks start in season 7, then just slowly get worse until it dies.
There is nothing worth watching past the episode with the magical jockeys that lived underground, it was in 11 or 12.
Also Homie the Clown felt like the best written and directed episode, which surprised me since it doesn't really get much fanfare.
>>87142994
Unlike 90% of the people in this thread, I actually have watched every episode of The Simpsons. Something that I'll say as a warning is that the worst seasons of the entire series are 14-19. It seems like season 20 and beyond, the staff began to recognize what it had become and returns to form a bit. I HATE the mid-teen seasons, but I thought a lot of the most recent episodes (baring specific premises) have been pretty good. The problem is that so many people have abandoned the show for so long that they don't even realize it has improved.
