You're talking about the studio system. That type of factory contract film production has been dead since the 60's.

Villeneuve has been making atleast one film per year since 2009, and every single one of them is a critically acclaimed financial success.
Sometimes he was even promoting two films at once (Enemy and Prisoners were released in the same fucking year).
