That being said the story was great, character motivations were clearly understandable and very logical, maybe too logical even. The writer was influenced by Freud and it shows. Character interactions are even formulaically psychoanalytical at times. It's a good exploration of the human condition and the flaws in the plot don't detract from this at all.

I really reccomend the anime. Especially if you've already seen EoE, which is a very strange way to tackle Eva but there you go.

The series is esentially the lead-up and will make what happens in the film a lot more clear.
