You guys forget that we're dealing with a series that's always made it a point to emphasize that in a feudal society, even the laws are there to serve those in power, and are ultimately subject to the will of whoever is at the top of the chain. Even Robert's Rebellion was built on a rejection of that, as technically the Mad King wasn't even out of bounds for accusing the Starks of treason.
