Really don't come to /tv/ much, but I'm pretty new the Star Trek universe, and fail to understand why so many people seem to regard this movie as mediocre. It may not of had as much action as Wrath of Khan, but due to budget constraints many of the TOS episodes relied on story telling vs action. I feel like this one actually did a good job of connecting to the show's roots. I really enjoyed it

It's not completely terrible, I liked the character development Kirk had against Christopher Lloyd, but all the young spock scenes where he's just screaming while the vulcan chick provides exposition are just terrible and really drag it down, everyone that saw the last scene of Wrath of Khan understood what was going on so it just felt like dragging it out for the benefit of those that didn't (who?). And it's definitely not an action problem, TMP is far superior.

Are you enjoying it?

Yes my co worker who is really into it got me watching it. Skipped TAS even though it follows the continuity of TOS simply because it doesn't look like it aged well. Love the first season of the next generation, but rather go back and watch the movies to help fill some gaps

There is no reason for Kirk to steal the Enterprise and go to Genesis.
He doesn't know that Spock's body is alive.
He doesn't know that Klingons are at Genesis.
He knows that Sarek asked for Spock's essence, not Spock's body.
The story has no reason to be.
