Why did two normal everyday dentists allow their precious daughter to be sent away to a school they've never heard of to learn about magic skills they don't even have proof of?

Why are you even trying to pretend you haven't seen one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises? Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Most wizards show magic abilities before going to hogwarts.
Harry teleported onto a roof once, made a pane of glass disappear at the zoo to release a snake, and magically grew his hair back every time they tried to cut it.
Chances are Hermione did some magic shit too.
>>
>>86939362
I liked how they were all very excited and interested by all the wizard stuff, like a reverse Mr. Weasley.

And yes I'm sure Hogwarts has some kind of system for Muggleborns and their baffled parents, Dumbledore or McGonagall probably visit and explain and give a crash course about the wizard community.
I just wonder about all the children whose parents didn't let them go to Hogwarts and made them go to a normal school instead, which is likely to be fairly common.
>>
>>86940815
>I just wonder about all the children whose parents didn't let them go to Hogwarts
I doubt they allow that to happen. They'd end up blowing up their teacher or whatever and the statute of secrecy would be fucked.
They probably just force the parents to agree to send the kid to Hogwarts. Like with Harry. The Dursleys didn't want him to go, but Hagrid wasn't having it.

Like all things in Harry Potter, it doesn't really work well if you start looking too deeply into the story.
I love the entire plot of Goblet of Fire (in the books) a lot, but once you start digging a lot of it doesn't make sense and relies on a ridiculous amount of lucky coincidences.

All she would need is a dildo and some skill in movement spells to deeply fuck herself.

How?
>>

In the films, yes. In the books she actually says she modified their memories. She never used Obliviate on them. This also explains why she said she'd never used Obliviate in that scene in the cafe where they knock out two Death Eaters and contemplate what to do with them.
Film watchers often complain about that scene since they saw Hermione use the spell half an hour earlier, but that's only in the film.

It is dumb. Harry Potter is a PG-13 universe that invented more magic as the series went along while placing next to no limitations on said magic; you can ask a million 'why didn't they' questions and the answer would be the same.

Mine would be how Hermione was conveniently prepared when the Death Eaters attacked at the wedding. She had a magic bag full of all their shit in her back pocket "just in case"
>>
>>86944388
I didn't mean a literal PG-13 rating in the theaters, I meant that the wizard world in Harry Potter is extremely mild because the series is targeted at children, even if it took a more mature turn as it progressed. If it was realistic then Hogwarts would be a non-stop orgy and there would probably be rampant problems with drug abuse; murder is practically unheard of save for Voldemort and his possé and so on. 99% of wizards live in teletubby land with the occasional implication of the dark side of society.
>>

>>
>>86944037
Wait, is Hermione not sexy in the book?
>>
>>86944584
>99% of wizards live in teletubby land with the occasional implication of the dark side of society.
Th story is told from the perspective of children attending a boarding school. We never really see what the world is like outside of what Harry sees, and he sees less of the overall world than most of his classmates do. There's probably tons of bad shit going on that Hogwarts students just don't hear about.

The ministry has a force of people on tap to specifically go after dark wizards, and they work all the time. Arthur Weasley's job revolves around cleaning up the messes people cause muggle-baiting, because most wizards see muggles as subhuman and like to have fun seriously injuring them. There's an active crime world and black market that lets people like Fletcher thrive, and the ministry doesn't seem capable of doing much about it. But these aren't things that effect schoolchildren, and that's why we only see glimpses of it.
>>
>>86944764
It is though, she literally modified their memories and made them believe they were different people, Wendell and Monica Wilkins to be exact
>>
>>86944932
She's not attractive in the books, neither is Luna, both were just cast with pretty actresses. Ginny Weasly and Cho Chang were the hot dang bombshells in the books as far as I can recall.
>>
>>86944932
>>86945053
I don´t know, the only major feature that was changed were the teeth and then the hair, but besides that she seemed attractive in the books
>>
>>86937641
because in the hairy potter universe the term child molester doesnt exist. its like the walking dead how the term zombie doesnt exist

so when ever the father would try to elaborate as to why its a bad idea before he would get done with his sentence or even far enough that his wife would know what he was talking about he would get creeped out by having to say to much about what could happen
>>
>>86937641
>Why did two normal everyday dentists allow their precious daughter to be sent away to a school they've never heard of to learn about magic skills they don't even have proof of?
Because Hoggwarts was never really a "magic" school. It was an asylum for troubled kids, bordering on dangerously mentally unstable.

they thought sending Hermoine to a "boarding school" would cure of her of her mental illness.
>>
>>86945154
>she seemed attractive in the books
How so? Was she even described as pretty in the books (with the exception of the Yule Ball) or coveted by anyone besides that Quidditch chad in book 6? She might've just been a late bloomer but unlike e.g Cho Chang she was never described as cute from what I remember. No one paid attention to her.

She was never described as attractive, just mousy and with frizzled hair abd buckteeth. The whole point of the Yule Ball was people realising she could actually look good, but she says it's too much hassle to look like that all the time so she goes back to frizzly nerd after that.

Rowling actually commented on how Hermione was way too pretty in the films, but she accepted that that's how cinema works.

Muggles would demand magical fixes for their problems. Rowling is a great author. Proof: She wrote some non Harry Potter books under the pen name of a white, male author that nobody's heard of and people STILL loved them before they knew it was her.
>>
>>86944932
She's pretty enough when she tries. But, that's the thing, she doesn't try.
She's described as having long fizzy brown hair that's always a mess, overlarge front teeth (that get fixed in the fourth book) and is always seen slouched under the weight of her massive bookbag.
At the Yuleball, she sorted her hair out (which took a few hours) was standing straight and was wearing a prettty dress-robe. Even Harry didn't realize it was her, and thought Krum was with "some pretty girl he didn't recognize".
After the ball she says trying to keep her hair manageable would take too much effort to do everyday, so she doesn't bother.

>By the time goblet of fire came our the only attractive think left of her was the nostalgia of the older movies
I was born in 1992 as well and had a crush on Hermione as I grew up with the films but I didn't stop when she was like 12. Emma Watson matured very well and people who say she "peaked" before puberty really hit her kinda give off a pedo vibe to be honest.

It's written through Harry's eyes, which is why we never get to read Ron or Hermione's thoughts, but there's definitely a narrator who describes the changing of the seasons amongst other things.

It's all irrelevant though if we're talking about Cho Chang and Ginny. Sure, we see through Harry's thoughts that he finds them attractive, but it's also stated many times that both girls were very popular and had a huge group of friends, so it's normal to assume they're good-looking and not just people only Harry really fancies. Cho got together with the school's most popular guy and Ginny has gone through about 8 boyfriends

What? When was there ever implied rape to be cut anyway? The torture stuff is still in though with Bellatrix carving "mudblood" into Hermione's arm.

i meant not always as in
>opening chapter of PS is from McGonagals pov
>i know theres a part in PS from Hermione's pov. When she sets Snapes robes on fire maybe

>GoF starts from the old Muggles pov

>HBP has the other minister and the Bella Narcissa and Snape scene

I'm not counting Voldy scenes cause he's intertwined with Harry

but yeah Harry wanted Cho big time that's why he didn't really notice other girls. Hell he barely even recognized that Fluer was hot and she had her half veela attractiveness
>>
Umbridge was a much better villain than Voldemort. Her working for the government who are supposed to be the good guys, while slowly taking over the school and forcing any student to physically torture themselves was unnerving and excellently done. And then having this monster dress up in cute cuddly pink and use a sweet, gentle voice while doing it all made it even better.

Admit it, she was much more interesting than Voldemort and you had much more reason to hate her guts.
>>
>>86951606

>>86951769
implied rape probably comes from one of the death eaters. Bella playing with her food before or even Grayback the werewolf talking about how tasty the school kids look or something
>>
>>86951861
Those are the exceptions yeah. Most of the books start with a chapter (sometimes more) where Harry isn't the main focus yet and we do see into the minds of Mr. Dursley in the first book. Once Harry's into the story though it never switches apart from Hermione setting fire to Snape's robes that one time. I would've liked to see more of the main cast's thoughts though, because it helps a lot in certain scenes, but Rowling sticking to Harry gave birth to all those convoluted lines like "She had a I'm-not-sure-about-this face", when we could've just had some internal thoughts
>>
>>86952037
>Bella playing with her food
That's just implied torture which is very much in-character for her. She wouldn't rape her victims because the only cock she wants is Voldemort's.

>Grayback the werewolf talking about how tasty the school kids look
Also a bit of a stretch. All we know about Greyback is that he delights in spreading his Werewolf infliction by biting others. His thing about children was about infecting them when they're young to horrify the parents and in order to build up an army of Werewolves to take over.
>>
>>86951979
okay i admit it, this is true
>>
>>86951509
>>86951542
That's obviously a joke.

As for the reason wizards hide from muggles, it's a pretty flimsy reason. I get that the witch hunts would have given them reason to hide and form a secret community but those hunts were 500 years ago.
If today a bunch of wizards came out of hiding and showed the world their magic abilities I doubt everyone's reaction would be to kill them on sight. There really is no particular logical reason for the secrecy, it was just there because it was useful to the story.

>having this monster dress up in cute cuddly pink and use a sweet, gentle voice while doing it all made it even better.
That's what made her great, the clothes, the pretense, the kitties on the wall all made her a chilling baddie

>Admit it, she was much more interesting than Voldemort and you had much more reason to hate her guts.
True, there was definite tension whenever she spoke or interfered in some way and I couldn't wait for her to die. Voldy was just sort of "there" and just evil and he never really did anything huge to make you hate him

Her being raped by a herd of centaurs was a great ending for her, but then they brought her back in book 7 and she never really got another punishment. Same. I thought Japan loved things drowned in Britishness. They go mad about Sherlock Holmes and you'd think they'd love a British boarding school setting. The series is also steeped with popular anime cliches like magical abilities, tournament arc, magic battles reminiscent of Dragonball Z etc.

Killing his main body wouldn't kill him. He had split his soul into seven parts, each containing a portion of his soul, so that anyone seeking to kill him would have to destroy his 7 horcruxes first.
>>
>>86955830
Why doesn't everyone do that to be nigh-immortal too?
>>

It's not very well known, and it's also very evil, dark magic. Splitting your soul is one of the darkest spells in the Harry Potter universe, perhaps even more evil than the famous Avada Kedavra.

Honestly not much is known about the spell. The only guy we ever get information about it from actually attempts to obstruct Harry's finding out about the spell.

The professor who told (young) Voldemort about the spell was charmed by his charisma. He was very reluctant and embarrassed to tell Harry that he was the one who told Voldemort about the spell.

In all seriousness killing his main body isn't a bad idea. It took him 13 years as a harmless spirit to get a body again. It's not the solution, but it would put off the problem for a long time.

>>86955914
It's tremendously difficult magic and it involves murdering someone. Not many people desire immortality anyway and those that think about it probably wouldn't go through with killing people. Not to mention the fact that if you were caught you'd spend your life in infinite depression prison with the Dementors.

What're your thoughts on JK Rowling expanding the story little by little years later?
Do you like learning more about the world and characters or do you feel she's desperately holding on to a wizard universe she should've let go once she finished the books?
>>
>>86956845
It's crap. Like trying to make your house bigger by pumping more volume into each room before your house breaks.

Should have ended with GoF.
>>
>>86956845
Not a fan of what she's doing recently. Didn't mind the Dumbledore gay thing because I can imagine that she as a writer knew that but there was never an opportunity or point to write it into the plot. But all these knew schools and their terrible origins are laughable.
The little bits of backstory she used to write years ago were interesting though, like McGonagall and Umbridge's life, again just things she probably knew but never got the chance to put into the books. But these days she's just making it all up
>>
why didn't harry learn a spell to get his eyesight fixed?
>>
>>86951861
>Hell he barely even recognized that Fluer was hot and she had her half veela attractiveness
That was odd because he went full retard during the Veela display at the world cup. Basically Fleur was attractive to all men since it's in her DNA, but only Harry seemed to be immune to it.
>>
>>86957277
He didn't want to lose his iconic glasses look man, though I'm sure there are spells for fixing eyesight if there are spells to fix your teeth.

I don't like the little unnecessary details she sneaks in for no reason.

>I love the Harry Potter universe and would love to have more stories set there.
Same here, and I actually thought Fantastic Beasts did a great job of setting a story in the HP universe. Expanding the wizarding world done in a good way. It could've been absolutely terrible but it turned out pretty good. I'm hoping for more stories set in the HP universe in future.
>>
it also feels like Rowling didnt actually trust herself writing the original series, especially with this nonsense about how harry and hermione should've coupled up
>>
>>86957597
Hi, welcome to 4chan.
>>
>>86957976
>especially with this nonsense about how harry and hermione should've coupled up
For the last time, she never said that. She said she coupled Ron and Hermione for the wrong reasons (it being planned from the start but not feeling right anymore as the books and characters progressed). Not a single mention of Harry and Hermione. But the tabloids went nuts with it and millions of people took her misquoted words to mean she wanted to pair up Harry and Hermione.
>>
>tfw you'll never fuck a loli Hermione like her daddy probably did
>>
How did Emma ever recover once those nudes leaked? It was right when she started university after finishing filming HP as well. Everyone in her class must have seen the pics
>>
>>86958285
>(it being planned from the start but not feeling right anymore as the books and characters progressed
You're right about her not mentioning the Hermoine/Harry pairing, but she didn't say that either. Rowling said that she paired Ron with Hermoine as wish fulfillment instead of going with the standard literary convention (pairing the main character with the girl) and did so knowing people would be unhappy with it. She also sort of implied she didn't realize she made the pairing out of wish fulfillment for a long time.

Basically, she never said anything bad about the pairing, she just admitted that she wanted her self insert to end up with the nice guy she based on her best friend.
>>
>>86958903
I just don't understand the Harry/Hermione people. Reading the books there was never a moment where I thought they would end up together, it was the perfect example of a platonic friendship between a boy and a girl.
