Sooo what exactly was the point or moral of this movie? Materialism is bad and acting like an animal is good?

BTW Edward Norton's acting sucks IMO, he plays the same exact character but in different scenarios, not a clue why anyone loves him.
I'm frankly surprised he made it to Hollywood instead of making D rate films for networks like Lifetime.

The point is that we are cursed to live in a pointless and aimless generation and that we must find meaning for ourselves but its ok because love will keep us together an' shiet.

FIRST WORLD WHITE BOIS BTFO
It's a biting takedown of toxic masculinity. Straight from the word of god
>>86923471
No. The point was Schizophrenia is a real pain in the ass.

This. Anyone who actually thinks that Tyler is not the villain of the movie and that everything he spouts is manipulative bullshit simply to destroy for the sake of destroying didn't actually pay attention to the movie.
>>86924038
But they are forcing others to live like they are by destroying the system.
>Hurr men just need to punch each other and get violent
If that's your cup of tea move to the middle east.
Such a stupid movie.
Also Tyler goes on and on about no one being special but has no qualms with being treated as special by the members of fight club.
>start a fight witha random person
Great way to get shot, ever heard of Trayvon Marti?
The entire movie is just BS verbal masturbation.

isn't* but, you get the idea
The point is that any "identity" becomes harmful and redundant, even the post-modern identity. Basically the same forces that caused the Narrator to create Tyler and Project Mayhem, lack of individuality, no real personal freedom, eventually become the downfall of the group itself. His social movement becomes a franchise, a smaller part of a larger, hollow faceless conglomerate, i.e. a business.
Basically the exact same forces that got him to improve his life during the first half of the film, end up ruining his life in the second half. You could probably summarize most films with that broad statement.
the point was the author concocted a homoerotic relationship with his gay hunk tulpa

You know what they say about how you always hurt the one you love?
Well it "goes both ways".
>>86924175
>the point was the author concocted a homoerotic relationship with his gay hunk tulpa
literally this. the story was a way for the author to address his own homosexuality.
>>86924131
What Tyler promotes is really self-destruction, behind all of his bullshit "anti-system" talk.
The story talks about how one guy can tell himself stories to gain confidence and do crazy shit and feel like there's no consequence to anything.

Sounds like an extremely Nihilistic and pessimistic way of thinking.
Kierkegaard and Foucault would surely disagree with this film's sentiments.
>>86923471
The moment that sparks the entire movie never would have happened, the doctor refusing sleep aid medicines and telling Edward Norton to go to testicular cancer.
No doctor would even suggest the latter and any doctor who isn't a holistic witch doctor would prescribe you something like Ambien or Lunesta to help you sleep if you have chronic insomnia. That was what started the entire movie, a moment that never would have happened.
>hey bro what are you doing on the ground?
>wanna join our secret club?
>>86924336
>The autistic mental gymnastics from this guy
Jesus, get help.
>>86923471
I never got the hoopla over this movie.
