One reason why DS9's better than Voyager is because there's only one Q episode they got out of the way early.

You're supposed to watch S1/2 alongside S6/7 of TNG, so while DS9 is finding it's feet you have comfy familiar TNG goodness to go with it.

There's a lot more good episodes in DS9 S1 than in the early TNG era anyway

the Enterprise B was used in the movie Generations, and the C has a known fate. So I wouldn't use either.

a female andorian captain. came up the ranks as a tactical officer. lost her first command fighting romulans, due to her own mistake. thought star fleet has given her a second chance. they assign her to a science vessel. which only adds to the shame she has given herself. The USS Oppenheimer is on a mission to explore the border region of Federation space towards the galactic core. they'll boldly go where no man has gone before, and the captain will get redemption with the constant conflicts with the Romulans.

they died because they stupidly made themselves into actual humans rather than just Q who look like humans.

An unaware Q caught in a tornado could just teleport himself out, or make the tornado disappear, or set the velocity of every particle in that quadrant to 0

Q tells Junior "Don't provoke the borg". Not really the same as fearing them.

This is just my own theorizing, but I see Q as trying to stimulate the evolution of other species. He travels around the universe, looking for species that he considers as having the same potential as Q, then challenges them to try and become more than what they are. His reasons for doing this are unclear, but maybe it's the only source of entertainment or stimulation left for him. I think the reason the Q tries not to provoke the Borg is because when the Borg assimilate other species, they cut off that species' shot at ascending to the Q's level. Where's the fun in that?

from the books

the Q, some 60 million years ago, fought a war against that alien race that was God in star trek 5. the guy we know as Q screwed up and let an asteroid launched by the aliens hit a planet. which drastically changed the naturally evolution. so as punishment Q was assigned to watch over this planet and what ever intelligent life evolved on it.

now this planet is Earth, the asteroid killed the dinosaurs and made the proto-voth leave earth. allowing for humans to rise up. which is why Q sits in judgement over humanity. having to bug picard and janeway all the time. he basicaly has to baby sit humanity to make sure they turn out alright.

Q aren't supposed to influence the mortals. so junior provoking the borg would put humanity at risk and break the Q rules against interference.

>There's at least an attempt to make something worthwhile
It's a purely comedic episode. Quark's actor says he's the only one on set that tried to make the show have any sort of substance or social commentary.
>In the end, according to Shimerman, the reason the episode ultimately failed was because it was half serious/half comic, and the two halves didn't gel
>In retrospect, Ira Steven Behr sees this episode the biggest disappointment of his entire time at Star Trek; "If you look through the list, "Profit and Lace" was really the last Ferengi show.
>The first time we shot the heart attack scene, it was very dark and the pace was slow. Armin and Sid really liked it, but when I watched it in dailies, I didn't like it. Even though it was an interesting exploration of the dark side, I didn't think it was exciting enough. And apparently the producers felt that way too. They wanted it more humorous.
>It is generally accepted amongst the writers and cast that the main problem with the episode is that while the writers wrote it as high-farce, director Alexander Siddig and actor Armin Shimerman saw it as a much more serious piece
>The production staff had high hopes for it during preproduction; indeed, after Behr sent the script to Michael Piller, Piller returned it with a memo reading "this is going to be a classic".
>>
>>86899624
DS9 also had underboobs galore with all those dabo girls. ENT was tame in comparison.

That is ground to revoke your trade license.

isn't it the least "trek"ish of them all?

You ever see a damn Klingon ship?

DS9 > TNG > TOS > ENT > VOY.

What about Spock? He was a Captain in the movies.

>Mr. Data, if I could speak to you privately for a moment. Isn't your proximity to my groin sometimes...offputting?
>Commander, although I am somewhat capable of understanding concepts of modesty and appropriateness, I am incapable of attaching any emotional value to these matters. Thus, I do not find my closeness to anything..."offputting", including your groinal area. A significant limitation of my design, I might add.
>Well, that lack of prudishness might in handy very soon, Commander ;)
>...curious. If I may ask Sir, is this what humans refer to as flirting?
>Mr. Data, I can assure you that when I flirt, you'll know it, regardless of your "limitations".

Damn racist.

The entire premise of Voyager wouldn't work if Janeway was an amazing captain with an amazing crew.

If it was the Enterprise stuck out there, Picard and co. would be back home in a two-parter episode.

Reminder that Voyager would've been over in S1 if they'd just beamed the ferengi ship into the sun and went through the wormhole

That was in S3, though.

>if it's a Klingon civil war, it's an internal matter
>but if the Romulans are helping then it's not

You proved my point. It wasn;t an internal matter, the Klingons were attacking a third party, the Cardassians
>>
>>86902680
They meet the Ferengi in season 3. But yeah, your point still stands, they never should've bothered with them. It was retarded to get involved.

that's like saying that it would be over if they just went home in the second episode and didn't violate the prime directive to save the okampas
>>
>>86902729
They didn't actually "intervene" though, they just blockaded the romulans and then exposed them
>>
>>86902848
And they didn't intervene in DS9. Garak, deceitful Cardie he is, eavesdropped on a tactical briefing
>>
>>86902746
Shooting the ferengi out of a torpedo tube wouldn't violate the prime directive though
>>
>>86902872
That wasn't an issue of the prime directive as it was a war between two powers, not a civil war

The reason the federation/sisko couldn't officially intervene in that situation is because they were still allied to the klingons
>>
>>86902877
It would violate a different directive though

He also traveled from Nimbus 3, which was said to be fairly close to Earth, to the center of the galaxy in about two hours. They really don't make federation ships like they used to.
>>
>>86902877
I like the way you think.
that makes me think tho, I get that Janeway wanted to keep on to the PD and all, but why didn't the writers bother to write Chakotay as someone who, as a former maquis member, would've cared less about it? I know the writers were lazy but why didn't it ever occur to them to have the two main members of the crew to have some conflict, especially over an issue that, when broken, could bring them closer to home?
>>
>>86902998
Chakotay was too nice from the get-go in every respect

He was referring to Federation ships and specifically his alien character taking over command for the captain when necessary. There are plenty of cases where this happens in Star Trek. Spock, Worf, T'pol and Kira come to mind.
