That image is just not true. Show-Cersei has been generally incompetent for the whole series, and nobody outright sympathizes with her. She's a deeply flawed character with a couple of almost-redeeming traits underneath it all. At best, she's recently become the character people love to hate because she's become bolder and more decisive after losing the burden that was her children. And blowing up the sept was cool.
