This is honestly one of the best psych horror movies I've seen in a long time, wasn't expecting it. The direction is absolutely stellar - the acting a little less so, but it doesn't detract from the overall experience.

I don't particularly like the label myself, but there are a few movies that I can hardly describe differently - Cure, They Look Like People, Citadel, The Haunting... Maybe paranoid horror would be more appropriate, but it'd feel like misusing the term.

Agreed. What made it work is the "monster" wasn't treated like a monster, and the people were actual people. It was a story rooted in human empathy, love, rivalry and friendship. It's the human core which elevated the tension.
