Two details that stood out to me in this scene. There are two books on the shelf behind audrey with readable titles, the only ones on the set. The easiest to read , Happy Times is an educational book by Guy L Bond aimed at teaching kids to read, published in 1949. The harder to read title from what I can gather is T.S. Eilot's Four Quartets a collection of four poems themed after the four elements, earth, air, water and fire (!) as well as containing motifs of time, the divine and becoming whole (!). My guess as to what we are to infer from these titles depends upon whether or not the coma theory holds true. The presence of a childrens book might imply that they have a child. Or the title and positioning might imply that the happy times are behind audrey as she gets older or unhappier in her marriage. The T.S. Eilot book seems harder to interpret. If we follow the poem representing fire then little gidding seems the best place to start. It paints fire as a force of rebirth and purification. It also talks about how reconciliation of past, present and future is the way to salvation. Seeing as how time distorts in twin peaks I cant see this as a coincidence. This could mean Audrey is still in a coma and needs to reconcile or shes in a home and needs to do the same thing to get better.

Lynch and Frost were not around for the vast majority of the second season. To be honest, the first half of the season is pretty good...but it gets pretty fucking bad after that.

There's a good season in there if they trimmed off at least 50% of the stupid shit. And you've got all that to come.

Low production value (pic related), shot on digital and looks worst in every way to the original series, Lynch running out of ideas and just throwing everything out there (random no-name characters taking up minutes of screentime for no reason, etc), obnoxious character reveals (Diane), rampant product placement earlier on to meet contractual obligations (close up of logos like the benz), and the fact that there has yet to be a an actual ending to Twin Peaks, meaning it will either be left at a continuity for a possible fourth season, or be concluded and thus have a high chance to be ruined in all aspects. S3 is objectively Lynch's worst work to date; granted, it's not terrible compared to the average TV series, rather it simply doesn't hold up to Lynch's previous work.

This plotline makes no sense, it's not conductive of procedural police behavior nor legal to just lock someone up because Andy said so.

In this episode Dougie/Cooper watches "Sunset Boulevard" while eating a chocolate cake. At the mention of Gordon Cole he leaps into action. Suddenly he hears electricity sizzling and he goes for it electrocuting himself. What strikes me in that scene is the concentrated manner with which decreasingly-Dougie/increasingly-Cooper goes for the socket. There is also an element of chase in his movements. And anger. My first gut feeling was that Cooper is after Gordon Cole whom he sees as one of the primary culprits for the overall Blue Rose failure.

Why do I say failure? Well, out of all the original agents, there is only Albert left. In S2 both Garland Briggs and Windom Earle have been pointing out that the military project they were involved in has been corrupted by some elements in the government who want to misuse it.

Garland Briggs went into hiding after talking to Mr C. So, evidently Mr C did not kill him. Whether Mr C tried is another matter. So, Briggs went into hiding and during two and a half decades he managed to contact a random librarian and a headmaster (seekers of knowledge), but never even tried to contact the head of the Blue Rose project.

Mr C has just met with Phillip Jeffries and no one was hurt.

Albert passed information to both Jeffries and Cooper (Mr C for all we know, but Albert did not know that) behind Cole's back.

And despite of losing all but one of his agents, Cole remains deputy director of the FBI. And his project lives on.

In Gordon's office we see many symbols that can be connected to evil and the Black Lodge (A-bomb, Corn alluding to Infested Corn/Garmonbozia). Also, there is a portrait of Franz Kafka who famously wrote "Metamorphosis" a story about a man who woke up only to discover he turned into a cockroach. However, Kafka also wrote "The Process", the story about how bureaucracy destroys human initiative, creativity and, ultimately, humanity.

Who is Cole? Is he after the same power Earle was before him? Is that why he set Cooper after Earle in S2?

Also, Gordon Cole from "Sunset Boulevard" is a Paramount executive (our Cole is the FBI executive) who sets up a former movie star to believe she will film another movie while all the while he was after her unusual car he wants to use for a film. So, Gordon Cole is a manipulator of his employees.

To what extent was Cooper set up by Cole? And to what extent is Cooper aware of it after being in the Waiting Room for so long? Is Mr C aware of it? So far, Mr C, Cole and Briggs are all after certain coordinates. So far, Cole showed no emotion towards his fallen/missing colleagues.

Diane obviously prefers even evil Cooper to Cole (F... you, Gordon!).

Is Cole the one who, like in Kafka's story, metamorphosed from a human to a living cockroach? I feel this is the case. Lynch knows we love him and thus he plays the arch-villain knowing we will not suspect him until the very end. What are your thoughts?

Lynch/Gordon a qt

A lot of David Lynch's work does have a plot, but there isn't a plot in season 3. The only reason anything happens in this season, is because the script says it happens. The problem with this season is not that it takes time or multiple views for it to click, it's that it's written so didacticly and so shallow everything clicks instantly. There is nothing to think about. Story content and puzzle pieces are not the same thing -- each episode gives out a few puzzle pieces, but no content or drama. All the dialogue is either cute but irrelevant, or simple exposition. The characters in this season don't interact with one another or talk with one another, they speak exposition at one another. The writing is incredibly lazy -- it's one of the reasons it appears that Lynch just went through the motions on this project. But to be fair, all artists eventually dry up and age into irrelevance. People talk about Lynch as if he is an independent filmmaker, but he hasn't been since Eraserhead. He's a Hollywood director through and through and Hollywood generally destroys the passion to create relevant art. Lynch seems to have burned out after his Mulholland Drive masterpiece.
