Is this truly kino?
I thought a lot of it could have been trimmed down and some pivotal sequences (like the daughter's death) had little investment to warrant an emotional payoff. Also the first half focusing on the prewar fervor and wartime horror was vastly superior to the second half's Reconstruction soap opera.
And Mammy's actress gave the best performance by far.
8/10 from me
it's good

First half is decent, second is superfluous. Clark Gable is good as always, Vivien Leigh is annoying. Overall it's too slow and boring.
But at least it's better than A Streetcar Named Desire, which features Leigh playing an even more annoying version of the same character.

Scarlett is the most despicable character in the whole history of cinema

Have you seen A Streetcar Named Desire? Blanche is Scarlett only more so.

She's perhaps one of the purest examples of thottery in cinema. What's worse is how big of an icon the character has been for women since 1939
