does consuming abnormal amounts of useless data cause alzheimers?
I feel like all of the millions of posts I've read over the last 10 years have effected my brian
>>
>>86771089
It's called "digital dementia", look it up
>>
>>86771089

I think 8 years of NEETdom and not using my brain caused it, in conjunction with several months of severe malnourishment and lying in bed.
>>
>>86770643

Back when they had video stores I picked up How High starring Jon Lovitz. My little brother swore up and down that I had seen it but I didn't believe him, ten minutes in I realized he was right. I watched it anyway out of spite.
>>
>>86770643
I have this literally all the time. It's a plus if the movie is good

Maybe you have ADHD
Maybe you're depressed
Maybe your attention span is diminished because of too much time consuming online media

All of these can effect your memory.

already happened to me.

it had been only a couple of years since i watched it, and if not by my reliable excel sheet probably would have finished watching it again without being sure.
>>
>>86771762
Can you explain the difference?
Sounds like "lack of attention" in both cases to me.
>>
>>86770643
I have the same thing since childhood. Can't remember the content of any movie I've seen more than a couple years ago. Same with books and video games.
>>
>>86771854

Well, to be honest all the film-noir classics are pretty much the same. I watched a bunch of them but I couldn't tell you which ones I watched.

>>
>>86771089
Partly. Simply consuming media like 4chan isn't mentally stimulating. The brain is like a muscle so if you aren't making use of it it will start to sever synapse connections. If you don't use it you lose it. You can stop being retarded, however, if you start engaging your brain in mentally stimulating activities. Do crosswords or other puzzles and talk to people in person, even if it's just a little bit a day. It won't increase your IQ but it will improve your brain's capacity for memory, logical problem solving, analysis and socialization to its full potential.
>>
guess my amateur boxing career and that motorbike accident didn't help
>>
>>86773364
I don't know, I feel like crosswords aren't really stimulating. Maybe sudoku might be more stimulating
>>
>>86773364
>>86773940
Sudoku, crosswords, puzzles... those may be better than online crap like facebook, 4chan, etc. But their effects are minimal.

If you really want to stimulate your brain, learn a language.
For real, that's one of the best things you can do.
It improves your memory, your learning abilities, it even changes the way you think after learning a whole new grammar.
And it also helps you to get a better job.

But don't be a lazy NEET and try to lean online. You know you'll give up. Don't even try.

Start looking for language schools near you right now. Maybe particular teachers too if you have those in your area.
See the options you've got and research the languages and choose 1. Choose because it's easy or because you'd like to visit the cuntry or because it's interesting or for whatever reason. Just choose 1.

Now get off your ass and go - TODAY - sign up for the lessons. It might be a tad expensive, but it's worthy it. It'll be a further incentive so you don't miss classes and work hard, you're paying for it.

Bonus: after a few months, start watching films in the language you're learning. With subtitles in the same language. At first you won't understand everything, don't worry. Just keep learning.

This is solid adive, trust me.
Now close this tab and DO IT.
Search for language schools / private teachers near you, choose 1 language you want to learn, sign up and pay in advance. Get yourself enrolled.
TODAY. Or else you'll slack off. ou know it.

GO.

i think il''ll just get the brian tumors thanks though
>>
>>86774570
you arent going to learn a language anyway if you dont have the discipline to study it on your own. there are people who take classes for years and are still complete shit, because they dont spend the required amount of hours memorizing vocabulary.
>>
>>86773364

Doubt it. It's forever gone. Those nerve cells are irreperably destroyed and gone.
>>
>>86774812
That's true.
But if you're that lazy, just find a class that's strict.
If you can't do study on your own, find a school that gives lots of homework and force you to learn. Sign up for extra classes.

But I agree, the best change comes from within, when you start reading news in the new language, watching movies, looking up words, reading children's books, anything...
>>
>>86774570
>>86774812

You also won't learn a language if there's no reason for you to use it. Only if you use it daily (for a reason) it will stick.
>>
>>86774570
This is actually a really good idea. I've been meaning to take up a hobby, although I don't have enough time for recreational reading anyway.

>>86774812
I'm sure this is true, and you'd really need to be immersed in a place where it's spoken to become fluent, but still, going to a legit language school and doing all your homework/classwork would probably provide some real cognitive benefits, even though you might not be able to hop on a plane to Japan and speak it at 9/10 level.
>>
>>86773364
>It won't increase your IQ

Whats the point then, better to just give up now than waste the effort and do it later. Besides I don't want to talk to anybody
>>
>>86772170
Same with me. I understand that you'll forget material over time but it seems especially bad for me. A decade would make more sense but forgetting after a year just seems wrong to me. Anybody else deal with this.

It's enough to give anyone alzheimers. It's all Game of Thrones with the same Twin Peaks and Walking Dead sprinkled throughout over and over again. It's relentless
The last /got/ episode these zombies watched is now 2 weeks old

It's been going on for at least the last couple of hours and my brain feels like mush

>>

That's bullshit

I played Chess and Go in my teens and i was pretty good at it, then stopped playing and become much dumber in real life, i couldn't make sense of mathematical things and my grades dropped hard

I came back recently, and while at the start it was rough, after a few months of training im back to my original shape

even though with Chess and Go i become much more lonely because it kills my drive toward socialization and it focus toward studying and playing the game

Even physics and math exercises have become easier and I can mantain more ideas in my head while developing those exercises

So, if you have the potential, it's just using it, if you don't it becomes weak again, like all forms of training, to get where you were is easier than doing it first time. For example, that physics guy couldn't figure that problem because he just didn't train for long time, but he surely will recover his shape if he tries again in less effort than all those years grinding in university, maybe a few weeks of studying will make him recover
>>
>>86771089

>>
>>86776171
Your IQ/potential for abstract thinking can only be "trained" maybe like 5%. Both you and the other poster are right in a sense. He meant there's no way to substantially change your IQ, which is true (studies show this with twins, e.g., being raised in totally different socioeconomic and educ situations still having roughly the same IQ 20 years later).

If you scored a 120 on an IQ test, you could do a lot of abstract thinking "practice" and maybe take another one and get a 125, but that's not a very relevant change, and there's no way in fuck you're getting a 140 or something that would make a difference from "practice."

Pretty witty.
>>
>>86776544
Have you considered the possibility you don't know what you're talking about?
>>
>>86776918
If you have any evidence you can "train" yourself to increase IQ by any significant stretch, I'm interested to learn about it. Otherwise, kindly concede my point.
>>
>>86777112
IQ is based in testing, testing is a cultural concept. Meaning one's ability to excel in a testing environment is entirely dependent upon how well they understand the culture.

Furthermore, the anecdote in >>86776171 specifically speaks to losing capacity in other areas as capacity in one area grows. Which further feeds into the casual correlations between high intelligence and lack of social abilities.
>>
>>86777291
>abstract intelligence is a cultural construct
spotted the religious zealot who worships at the foot of liberal dogma

IQ is the best established concept in psychology. It is a very real measure of your ability to succeed in school and work. Just because it hurts your feelings that non-whites and non-Asians have shit IQs, doesn't give you any reason to dismiss science.

Your first sentence is so devoid of intelligence, I can tell nothing smart will ever penetrate your socially conditioned "brain."
>>
>>86777401
>abstract intelligence
>intelligence quotient

The means by which we have to measure intelligence are culturally based concepts. This isn't a barometer or thermometer, we have no means to empirically measure these concepts due to our lack of understanding of even the most basic functionality of the human brain.

also hi /pol/.
