White Walkers were much better before we knew anything about them. Now they're more like videogame characters with a hard logic rulesets like --

1) Kill the boss and his underlings despawn
2) Anyone on your own side that dies gets woolooloo'd to the other team
3) They presumably rot away unless they keep the air conditioner on the lowest setting

Even with this obvious ruleset, the heroes of the story are too fucking stupid to take advantage of them. Also, nobody seemed to be too concerned that they literally gave one of their dragons to the enemies.

With this established how fucking convenient was it not that they happened to kill the one Boss that happened to have exactly ONE underling that he didn't spawn, so they could capture him?

It's all to set up that the Night King is like the master vampire and once everything looks dire he'll die by some bullshit and everyone is saved.

Of course if he's so fucking important to the entire fucking army why is he remotely near the battlefield at all? His lieutenants can raise the zombies too so it's not like he has to be there.
