Rick has become essentially god. Remember in Season 1 when his portal gun ran out of power and they had to go through TSA? He didnt have these god-tier implants that he could just 1 shot the galactic overlord Worldender with.

The problem isnt the gadgets. Its that is now, and the show describes him now as god. He is all knowing, all powerful, can destroy galactic governments with a button.

The story has nowhere to go. So instead we have "DARK MORTY!" who will just be resolved with a handwave because Rick is all powerful and this wont effect anything.

Instead of fun and strong characterization, they are just blowing up the most blandant parts of every character:

Rick wemt from a fucked up scientist whos nihilistic worldview and alcoholism lead him into doing dumb shit to now he is a supergenius, knows everything, is all powerful and life itself doesnt interest him.

Jerry went from being a dumb spineless loser to being literally the weakest and most pathetic creature in the universe, nature even calls him a loser.

naw, see my post here >>86675357 they need to have a complete disregard for continuity and use different ricks from different universes to tell different stories. season one was building up to even wackier and cooler sci-fi stories. after council of ricks there is no reason they should have stick with c-137. there is no reason to have a continuous plot at all. each episode can start and go in an direction they want to take it because they have so many ricks to play with. they can return to other ricks. it would be cool if they did an evil morty episode but it was only evil morty with a robot, and that would add some continuity. but there is no reason to stick so closely to one character in this show, and they could probably broaden their content horizons by a large degree

For the first time this actually felt like an ordinary Rick and Morty episode.

The pilot is unironically kino and represents all the characters the best. Rick isnt a god that can get out of anything, and has to go through customs while running away from guards. If it was made today he would decimate them all himself. Morty isnt mini-rick. Jerry isn't as flanderized and people sorta take him seriously.

We're seeing the origins of Evil Rick and Evil Morty. This isn't C-137. In this universe, Beth and Jerry divorce causing all this shit, Morty is learning a lot from Rick like how to diffuse his bombs and use his gadgets. He's going to learn to hack Rick's augmentations and control him. The end of this season will be before the episode where Evil Rick assassinates the other Ricks.

I don't think a year and a half wait for this trash season was worth it.

if you can travel across dimensions there is no reason you can't bend time. in fact, rick does this in episode one. after morty breaks his legs rick goes to another dimension for a few weeks and bangs a bunch of chicks for a few weeks and then returns to morty. from morty's perspective rick was only gone for a few minutes. so yes, they do time travel.
