I expect this thread to be full of shit but I'll give an honest answer:
Ideology is tied to values and they are tied to personality.
Progressives are experimental, confrontational and challenging to societal norms by nature.

A politically conservative person is conservative in personality.
Firstly, less likely to want to engage in an occupation that is progressive (chicken and the egg: is art progressive by nature, or does it just appeal to progessives doesn't matter). So the best conservative minds would be drawn to other occupations like law, leadership, business etc.
Secondly, a conservative person in that occupation is less likely to be inclined to break conventions or patterns, challenge tradition or practice and to make a lasting mark on the artform.

That's what I think.
