From an American perspective (the people who make good big-budget movies) making a movie about the Eastern Front is a lot more complicated than making one about the exploits of Americans, Brits, and the rest of the allies in the West, or even the war in the Pacific. The lack of a clear morally-superior side is a big complicating factor, but there's also all the minutiae of deciding whether to use the actual languages (which complicated casting and requires the audience to read subtitles,) or use weird accented English, or whatever, as well as filming in much poorer and more dysfunctional countries than the western ones, etc. So the whole process is much more difficult and audiences might not even be into it when it's done. I get why they rarely do it.

At the same time it kicked the shit out of Imperial Japan in an unprecedented amphibious campaign thousands of miles from American soil. It was no accident that the Americans were in charge of D-Day, they'd been doing the same thing in the Pacific for 2 years, crossing thousands of miles of open ocean to invade shithole islands guarded by fanatical and heavily fortified Japanese. The Channel's what, 100 miles?
