Surely a cultured race of beings would have this altar in what seems like a kind of sacred ground. Now they're just "the bad guys" and there's zero work done to flesh out their world. Kill the enemy that is furthest away because the closer enemy needs more time to run. If he hit Drogon first, he would not get a 2nd shot at the other dragons. Notice how ge got a 2nd shot at Drogon but they somehow barrel rolled or someshit. That 2nd opportunity would not have presented itself if he hit Drogon first.

If he did, it would mean that the NK lacks deep military tactics.

But I do agree that it seemed like plot convenience for the most part mainly due to other writing blunders and plot holes.
