Terrible writing and character deaths as a crutch to avoid resolving plot threads.

Good two first seasons and a steep decline from there. When you start noticing it's getting worse, don't think it ever gets better. I would advise you to drop it around season 4.

good seasons 1-2, decent seasons 3-4, terrible seasons 5+. drop it at 4 and read the books, far more enjoyable, plus knowing what's coming in the first 3 books makes them less dry so you can pay attention more easily to the stuff the show left out.
