The reason why cigars aren't as popular is that they're very much a luxury item. With a cigarette, you want one, you inhale and get all the nicotine into your lungs and into your blood stream quickly and you're done with the smoke in about 5 minutes.

With even a mediocre cigar, you're sitting down and smoking for more than a half hour, and during that time you're most likely having a drink of some sort. Even though cigars have more nicotine in them than a cigarette, the method of delivery means that you end up actually absorbing far less than you would a cigarette.
