show is based on novel where main character is a christian pastor hired to preach christianity to aliens called oasans who immediately accept jesus and later the pastor "realizes with horror that the reason Oasan's have embraced Jesus so much is because they take the tales of Heaven and Jesus rising from the grave literally".

that last part startled me. christian pastors are not supposed to believe in heaven and that jesus christ literally rose from the grave?

>>
>>86499139
It's not explained well in that synopsis.

the aliens cannot heal even from minor wounds and die from simple cuts or bruises, hence a religion that promises resurrection is very appealing

I don't recommend the novel, it's full of liberal sjw pandering with muuh climate change.

I'm a big fan of the series. Read the books. I love the hard SciFi aspects. The political drama in the books is done better, but I can understand why they had to dumb it down a bit for TV. The action in the show is great though. They do a good job of capturing the important bits.

As for the actors. I think Amos and Alex are played perfectly. Excellent casting. Also Jared Harris and Thomas Jayne had solid performances. As for Holden and Naomi I'm torn. Some tines they nail it. But sometimes it feels totally off base.

I'm looking forward for season 3 though. I also like that they didn't cut the seasons at the same points as the books.

I dunno about Bobby. The actress is young. But I feel like they changed her lines to push a "strong woman" character. Could be either her acting or the writing.

I love that they at least try to get something that looks realistic. Same that they do a lot of wire work even though actors hate that shit. and they'll fix the hair of characters in post in zero g to make it a bit more realistic.

Think it was from a Google talk but the authors flat out admit that the series isn't very scientific. Think they referred to it as wikipedia level of scientific accuracy. Story and characters come first, but just following some basic shit like gravity makes it a lot more grounded.
>>
>>86503479
Yeah. I think most people just appreciate the effort taken to keep the science as close as possible to real life. Obviously it's not perfect. I.E. space ship sounds in space. But the creators said they're willing to bend rules like that to increase drama. Because being 100% scientifically accurate would make the show a chore to watch.
>>
>>86503479
To add to my other post I did the math once on how much energy you'd need to add to Ceres and Eros to get them to produce 1/3 g spin gravity. Ceres isn't really possible right now. But Eros could be done assuming it didn't fly apart once it spun up.

Also the math on travel time was about right too. Within an order of magnitude anyways.
>>
>>86498663

will i like this if i like the expanse. i need to watch some space scifi kino
>>
>>86503960
I like that time and distance often ends up enhancing the story and drama because they try and keep it within realistic reason.

Things like light delay on communication becomes a major thing in the later books and I'd imagine it will be in the show as well.

>>
>>86504203
The light delay is a great touch. And the fact that space battles can kill you even if you don't get hit is intense too.

I find it a touch bizarre that AI is barely touches on though. Guess they wanted to avoid that can of worms.

>>86504296
Fucking skinny.
>>
>>
>>86504464
From the books at least the authors wanted to focus on the human elemental or something akin to that.

You'll find some snippets from interviews and whatnot when you google that question. I kinda prefer it. Can get rather boring if you do too much with robots/AI unless its a focal point of the story you want to tell.
>>
>>86504571
Man I hope the series does well enough to make it into the later books.
I just want to see the battle with the Roci vs 3 ships from the last book. Alex and Bobbie showing fucking belters who you really pilot a Martian warship.

What was that shit about the procedure that takes away your emotions? They showed Amos very interested when it was explained, then implied he got it done, then it was never brought up again.

Amos has no empathy, he was thinking if it was possible to reverse the unrelated procedure on the scientists, maybe it would be possible to fix him as well.

Amos defends his family to the death, but can't empathize with others outside of it. Currently his family is the Roci crew.
