I was thinking about this earlier and I literally wrote a better sequence in my head in like 15 seconds: He goes to throw it at Dany and/or Drogon, Viserion swoops in towards him, hits him with some fire. NK uses frost field to shield himself and his buddies, then tosses the spear, V is hit, goes down, everybody sad.

It's the obvious way to do it, and honestly unless they managed to put a twist on it that I didn't think of I'd say it was a bit by the numbers, but it hits all the right marks; it makes sense, adds a bit of pathos to Viserion for being such a bro, adds threat to the NK/walkers by showing they can't just be roasted, and it's a nice bit of quick action to cap off the climax.
