Part of the bargain Tywin and Jamie struck to let Tyrion live was for Jamie to leave the Kingsguard. Tyrion would take the black, and Jamie would have to return home to Casterly Rock and marry a proper lady and have proper babies.

As a kingsguard, Jaime can only represent someone in a trial by battle if the king/queen allows it. Tywin and Cersei obviously wouldn't have allowed Jaime to be Tyrion's champion, so that was never a possibilty.

Unless this is actually true and you aren't just making shit up, this is legitimately a plot hole. Tywin would never risk Jaime dying. In the books, I think Tyrion and Jaime have a falling out over the Tysha thing so I guess that makes sense. Either way, the show is fucked and makes absolutely no sense in this regard.
